Applications are shortlisted based on normalized marks obtained in qualifying examinations. Shortlisting cut-off marks are determined by the Indian Navy based on number of applications and vacancies available. NCC ‘C’ certificate holders with ‘B’ Grade are eligible for 5% relaxation in cut-off for shortlisting. Shortlisted candidates are called for SSB Interview — intimated via official portal and email.

3

SSB Interview (5-Day Process)

Services Selection Board (SSB) Interview is a comprehensive 5-day assessment conducted at designated SSB centres. It includes: Day 1 — Screening (Officer Intelligence Rating Test + Picture Perception & Description Test); Days 2–4 — Psychological Tests (TAT, WAT, SRT, SD), Group Testing Officer (GTO) tasks (Group Discussions, Group Planning, Progressive Group Tasks, Snake Race, Individual Obstacles, Command Task, Final Group Task), and Personal Interview; Day 5 — Conference and Results. SSB-recommended candidates undergo medical examination at designated Service Military Hospitals as per the Indian Navy’s prescribed physical and medical standards. Candidates declared medically unfit at initial examination may apply for an appeal medical board if they wish to contest the findings. Medical standards vary slightly by branch (e.g., Pilot and NAOO/Observer entries have stricter vision criteria).

5

Merit List & Final Appointment

A merit list is prepared based on SSB marks (not shortlisting marks) for all medically fit candidates, separately for each branch/cadre and gender. Final appointment is subject to merit, availability of vacancies, verification of eligibility, and character/antecedents verification. Mere inclusion in select list does not confer a right to appointment. SSB-recommended candidates must submit their final degree results to officer@navy.gov.in before 20 June 2027.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common queries about Indian Navy SSC Officer Recruitment 2026 — Jun 2027 (AT 27) Course
Is there any written/computer-based test for Indian Navy SSC Officer selection?+
No. There is no written examination or computer-based test for SSC Officer selection. The selection process consists of three stages only: (1) Shortlisting of applications based on normalized marks in qualifying examinations, (2) SSB Interview (5-day process at a Services Selection Board centre), and (3) Medical Examination at a designated military hospital. Candidates are directly shortlisted for SSB based on their academic performance — there is no separate examination to qualify for the SSB.
What is the application fee for Indian Navy SSC Officer Recruitment 2026?+
There is NO application fee whatsoever for any category — General, EWS, OBC, SC, ST, PwD, Women. The application process is entirely free of cost. Candidates are advised to beware of fraudulent websites or agents who may claim to facilitate Navy recruitment for a fee — the Indian Navy does not engage any such intermediaries.
Can I apply for more than one branch? How do I select branch preferences?+
Yes, you can apply for multiple branches in a single application — provided you meet the eligibility criteria (age, educational qualification, gender) for each branch you select. During the online application, you will be asked to indicate your branch preferences. You will only be considered for the branches you select — so it is important to select all eligible branches carefully. Branch preferences cannot be changed or updated after final submission of the application form.
Can final year students apply? What happens if I don’t get my results before joining?+
Yes, final year students are eligible to apply. However, you must fulfil the required educational qualification criteria before joining INA, Ezhimala in June 2027. Candidates who are SSB-recommended must submit their final degree result to the Indian Navy at officer@navy.gov.in prior to 20 June 2027. If a candidate fails to complete the required degree or does not meet the eligibility criteria by then, they will not be permitted to join the Academy.
What is the difference between SSC and Permanent Commission (PC) in the Indian Navy?+
Short Service Commission (SSC) is a fixed-term commission for an initial period of 10 years, extendable by 4 more years (total maximum 14 years) depending on service requirements. SSC officers are not automatically given Permanent Commission; however, meritorious SSC officers in select branches may be considered for PC absorption as per Indian Navy policy and available vacancies. Permanent Commission (PC) is a career-long commission until retirement age (54–60 years depending on rank). Candidates who wish to serve for the full career should aim to be considered for PC conversion during their SSC tenure.
Are women eligible for all branches? Which branches are for men only?+
Women are eligible for most branches in this recruitment. However, Submarine Tech Engineering (Branch 9) and Submarine Tech Electrical (Branch 11) are open for men only. For other branches, there is a capped number of vacancies reserved for women (e.g., max 10 in Executive, max 5 in Naval Constructor, max 4 in Electrical GS, max 3 in Pilot, max 3 in NAOO/Observer, max 2 in Logistics). If adequate numbers of women candidates are not available or not selected, those vacancies may be filled by male candidates. All other eligibility conditions remain the same for men and women.
My qualification is CGPA-based, not percentage. Am I eligible?+
Yes, candidates with CGPA-based qualifications are eligible — provided their CGPA, when converted to percentage using the official university-issued conversion formula, meets the minimum percentage requirement (generally 60%). During the online application, you must upload the official CGPA-to-percentage conversion formula issued by your university. If no official formula is available from the university, you may use the standard conversion as per applicable Government of India guidelines — however, you should verify this with the Indian Navy if in doubt.
What is the SSB Interview process? How should I prepare?+
The SSB (Services Selection Board) Interview is a 5-day comprehensive assessment designed to evaluate Officer-Like Qualities (OLQs) — intelligence, personality, leadership, team skills, and suitability for Armed Forces service. The process includes: Day 1 — Screening (Officer Intelligence Rating test + PP&DT); Days 2–4 — Psychological tests (TAT, WAT, SRT, Self Description), Group Testing Officer (GTO) tasks (Group Discussion, Group Planning Exercise, Progressive Group Task, Half Group Task, Individual Obstacles, Command Task, Final Group Task, Lecturette), and a detailed Personal Interview by the Interviewing Officer; Day 5 — Conference and declaration of results. Preparation involves improving general awareness, communication skills, physical fitness, confidence, and familiarity with current affairs and defence topics. Official preparation guidance is available on www.joinindiannavy.gov.in.
