There is no written examination for Anganwadi Worker or Helper posts in UP. Selection is done purely on the basis of a merit list prepared from academic qualifications. When merit marks are equal, the following priority/tie-breaking criteria apply in order:
- Stage 1 — Online Application: Candidate submits application at upanganwadibharti.in with self-declared educational qualification and residence details
- Stage 2 — Merit List Preparation: The CDPO (Child Development Project Officer) of the concerned block prepares a merit list based on qualifying exam marks for each Anganwadi centre vacancy
- Stage 3 — Provisional Merit List Published: Displayed on the official portal and CDPO office notice board — objections invited if any
- Stage 4 — Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates (typically 2–3 times the vacancies) are called to the CDPO/DPO office with original documents for verification
- Stage 5 — Final Selection List: After DV, the final selected list is published on the official portal and communicated to selected candidates

Register as Anganwadi Worker or Helper
On the homepage of upanganwadibharti.in, click on “Anganwadi Worker New Registration” (for AWW) or “Anganwadi Helper New Registration” (for AWH). Register using your Aadhaar number and mobile number. An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile for verification. Note your login credentials.
Log In & Fill the Application Form
After registration, log in using your credentials. Fill the application form with accurate personal details (name as per Aadhaar, date of birth, category), residential address details, educational qualification (board, year of passing, marks obtained), and select your district (Bijnor or Kanpur Nagar) and the specific Anganwadi centre/block for which you are applying.
Upload Photograph & Required Documents
Upload a recent passport-size photograph (colour, plain background). Upload scanned copies of your 10th/12th marksheet or 5th/8th passing certificate, Aadhaar card, caste certificate (if OBC/SC/ST), and domicile/residence certificate in the prescribed format and file size. Ensure all documents are legible and correctly uploaded.
Submit & Save Acknowledgement
Review all details carefully. Once satisfied, click Submit. After submission, download and print the Application Acknowledgement Slip. Keep this slip safely — you will need it during document verification. No fee is required at any stage.
Monitor Portal for Merit List & DV Notice
After the application deadline, keep checking upanganwadibharti.in regularly for the provisional and final merit list publication. If shortlisted, you will receive instructions for Document Verification at the concerned CDPO/DPO office. Carry all original documents on the DV date.
Keep scanned copies (in prescribed format and file size) ready for online upload. At the Document Verification stage, bring all originals along with self-attested photocopies.

• For Anganwadi Worker: Merit prepared based on marks in Class 12th (Intermediate) examination
• For Anganwadi Helper: Merit prepared based on marks in Class 5th or Class 8th examination
In case of equal marks, tie-breaking criteria are applied in this order: (1) Widow/destitute women, (2) ASHA/SHG member, (3) NCC/Sports certificate holder, (4) Elder in age. Shortlisted candidates are called for Document Verification before final selection. There is no interview.
Anganwadi Worker (AWW):
• Central Govt. component: ₹7,500/month
• UP State additional component: ₹2,000–₹3,000/month (as per state budget allocation)
• Approximate total: ₹9,000–₹11,000/month
Anganwadi Helper (AWH):
• Central Govt. component: ₹3,750/month
• UP State additional component: ₹750–₹2,000/month
• Approximate total: ₹4,500–₹6,000/month
Honorarium rates are subject to periodic revision by the Government of India and UP State Government. AWWs are also eligible for Ayushman Bharat health coverage and face promotion opportunities to the Supervisor (Mukhya Sevika) grade.
• SC/ST candidates: +5 years relaxation → maximum age 50 years
• OBC candidates: +3 years relaxation → maximum age 48 years
• PwBD (Divyangjan) candidates: Additional relaxation as per UP Govt. rules
• Ex-Servicemen wives / war widows: Additional relaxation may apply as per notification
Widows and divorced women with proper documentation may also receive additional consideration in the merit/priority criteria as explained in the selection process section.
The AWW runs the Anganwadi centre and is the primary grassroots functionary under ICDS. Responsibilities include: conducting preschool/non-formal education for children aged 3–6 years; identifying pregnant women and lactating mothers in the catchment area; distributing supplementary nutrition (Take Home Ration/hot cooked meals); maintaining registers for beneficiary tracking; coordinating with ASHA and ANM for health and immunisation activities; conducting home visits; and maintaining records for all ICDS services in the catchment area.
Anganwadi Helper (Sahayika):
The AWH assists the AWW in daily activities. Responsibilities include: preparing and serving nutritious food to beneficiaries; maintaining cleanliness of the Anganwadi centre building; assisting the AWW during health and nutrition days; mobilising community members for Anganwadi activities; and performing other duties as assigned by the AWW and CDPO. The AWH is the backbone of the centre’s daily operations.
