Selection Process — How Candidates Are Chosen
1

Document Verification at Walk-In

Candidates must physically attend the walk-in at BEL's Centre for Learning & Development, Jalahalli Post, Bengaluru on 10 April 2026 at 9:30 AM with all required original documents. Eligibility is verified on the spot. Candidates failing document verification are not permitted to appear for the written test. No TA/DA is paid for attending the walk-in.

2

Written Test — Sole Merit Criterion

Selection is determined purely on the basis of marks secured in the written test. There is no Group Discussion, personal interview, or additional evaluation round. All candidates who clear document verification will appear for the written examination. The written test assesses candidates on relevant graduation-level knowledge. Statutory Government reservation norms (SC/ST/OBC/PwD/EWS as applicable) will be followed.

3

Shortlisting & Communication

Based on the merit list prepared from written test scores, candidates are shortlisted as per available seats and reservation norms. Shortlisted candidates will be informed exclusively through E-Mail — no postal communication or phone calls. Candidates must ensure their active e-mail ID is provided correctly during registration. BEL does not take responsibility for communication failures due to incorrect email IDs.

4

Apprenticeship Registration & Joining

Selected candidates are enrolled under the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) through the Board of Apprenticeship Training (BoAT), Southern Region, Chennai for the Optional Trade (OPTN) category. Training begins at BEL's Bengaluru complex for a period of One Year. Monthly stipend of ₹12,500 (₹8,000 from BEL + ₹4,500 via Government DBT) is disbursed throughout the training period.

📌 No Interview, No Bias: The entire selection at BEL OPTN apprenticeship is objective — your written test score is the only deciding factor. This makes preparation straightforward: focus on graduation-level B.Com/BBA subjects including Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, and related quantitative reasoning topics.

Frequently Asked Questions — BEL Apprenticeship 2026
Who can apply for BEL NATS Apprenticeship 2026?
B.Com and BBA graduates whose domicile is in one of the five southern states — Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, or Telangana — can apply. Graduation must be on or after 01-04-2022 from a recognised University. Minimum percentage: 60% for General/OBC and 40% for SC/ST. Age limit: 25 years (with relaxations for reserved categories). Candidates currently pursuing or who have completed higher qualifications, and those who have already done an Optional Trade apprenticeship under NATS/NAPS, are not eligible.
+
What is the monthly stipend and how is it paid?
The total monthly stipend is ₹12,500. It is split into two components:
  • ₹8,000 — paid directly by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL)
  • ₹4,500 — paid by the Government of India through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to the apprentice's bank account
To receive the DBT portion, candidates must ensure their bank account is correctly registered on the NATS portal. Both components are paid monthly throughout the one-year training period.
+
What is the selection process for BEL Apprenticeship?
Selection is based purely on merit in a written test. The process has three steps:
  • Walk-In and Document Verification — on 10 April 2026 at 9:30 AM at BEL CLD, Bengaluru. Originals of SSLC Marks Card, Aadhaar Card, and Degree/Provisional Degree Certificate are required.
  • Written Test — conducted on the same walk-in day for verified candidates. No interview or group discussion.
  • Shortlisting by E-Mail — selected candidates are informed via E-Mail only. Government reservation norms apply.
+
What documents must be carried to the walk-in?
Three original documents are mandatory:
  • SSLC / Class 10 Marks Card — for age proof
  • Aadhaar Card — for identity verification
  • Degree Certificate or Provisional Degree Certificate — as proof of graduation qualification
Important: Course Completion Certificates and Study Certificates are explicitly NOT accepted. Only a Degree or Provisional Degree Certificate qualifies. All documents must be in original — photocopies alone are not sufficient for verification.
+
What is NATS Optional Trade (OPTN) Apprenticeship?
NATS stands for National Apprenticeship Training Scheme — a Government of India initiative that facilitates structured on-the-job training for graduates in public and private sector organisations. The Optional Trade (OPTN) category under NATS is designed for non-engineering graduates in commerce and management streams like B.Com and BBA. The training is administered through the Board of Apprenticeship Training (BoAT), Southern Region, Chennai. Upon completion, apprentices receive a government-recognised training certificate. The Government of India pays a portion of the monthly stipend (₹4,500 via DBT) to encourage organisations to engage apprentices.
+
What facilities are provided during BEL apprenticeship training?
Facilities available during the one-year training:
  • Canteen: Available at the BEL campus but on a chargeable (paid) basis
  • Transport: Bus transport facility available on a chargeable (paid) basis
  • Accommodation: NOT provided — candidates must arrange their own accommodation in Bengaluru
  • TA/DA for Walk-In: NOT paid — candidates attending the selection process must bear their own travel expenses
Candidates relocating from outside Bengaluru should factor in accommodation and local travel costs when evaluating this opportunity.
+
Can candidates from states other than the five southern states apply?
No. The BEL NATS OPTN Apprenticeship 2026 is open only to domicile holders of Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. Candidates from all other states — even if they currently reside in Bengaluru for study or work — are not eligible. Domicile is determined by permanent state of residence as per government records, not current place of stay. Attempting to apply without meeting the domicile criterion will result in rejection during document verification at the walk-in.
+
Is a BEL Apprenticeship equivalent to a permanent job?
No — an apprenticeship is a structured training programme, not a permanent employment or contractual job. The duration is fixed at one year, and apprentices are not treated as regular employees of BEL. At the end of the training, apprentices receive an NATS completion certificate from the Board of Apprenticeship Training. While BEL apprenticeship provides excellent industry exposure at a premier defence PSU — which significantly strengthens a resume for future government and private sector opportunities — it does not confer any right to continued employment at BEL upon completion.
+
Can MBA or M.Com holders apply for BEL Apprenticeship 2026?
No. Candidates who have acquired or are currently pursuing any higher qualification — including MBA, M.Com, PG Diploma in Management, or any postgraduate degree — are explicitly NOT eligible. This apprenticeship is intended for fresh B.Com and BBA graduates. The restriction on higher qualifications is stated in the official notification to ensure the training programme serves candidates who are at the start of their career, not those who are over-qualified for the Optional Trade category.
