JPSC Deputy Collector Recruitment 2026
Jharkhand Civil Services Examination 2025 (Backlog) — 45 Posts
Jharkhand Public Service Commission invites online applications for 45 backlog vacancies across Deputy Collector and allied civil service posts. A rare opportunity for candidates who missed earlier cycles — same prestigious posts, same three-stage selection, same permanent government service benefits. Applications open 21 March to 6 April 2026 at jpsc.gov.in.
What is Backlog Recruitment?
Backlog vacancies arise when posts reserved for certain categories (SC, ST, OBC, EWS) remain unfilled in previous regular recruitment drives — typically because no suitable candidate from the reserved category was available or qualified in that cycle. JPSC Advertisement No. 05/2026 covers Jharkhand Combined Civil Services Examination 2025 (Backlog) — these are fully permanent regular government positions with identical status, salary, and career growth as posts filled through regular recruitment. Candidates from all categories may apply, but seats are distributed as per reservation norms of the Jharkhand Government.

📈 Career Progression Path — Deputy Collector (JAS)
Detailed Selection Process
Preliminary Examination (Screening)
2 objective papers, 200 marks each, total 400 marks. No negative marking. Duration 2 hours per paper. Held on the same day in two sessions. Papers cover National GS and Jharkhand-specific GS. Candidates scoring above the cutoff (released category-wise) are shortlisted — typically 15 times the number of vacancies per category. Prelims marks are not added to final merit.
Main Written Examination (Core Stage)
6 papers, 5 of which are merit papers (800 marks) + 1 qualifying language paper (100 marks). Descriptive/analytical format. Conducted over multiple days. Candidates must qualify the language paper separately (minimum marks prescribed). Final ranking is determined by Mains + Interview. Strategy: Strong answer writing, Jharkhand-specific content, and optional subject mastery are decisive.
Physical Test (Selected Posts Only)
Applies only to DSP, District Commandant, Jail Superintendent, and Probation Officer posts. Tests include height, weight, chest measurement, and physical endurance (running). Candidates who fail the physical test for these specific posts are disqualified from those posts only — they may still be considered for other posts where no physical test is required, subject to merit ranking.
Interview / Personality Test — 100 Marks
Conducted at JPSC headquarters in Ranchi by a panel of experienced administrators and commissioners. Duration: 15–30 minutes. Evaluates analytical ability, leadership potential, communication skills, awareness of Jharkhand and national issues, and overall suitability for civil service. 100 marks are added to Mains score for final merit preparation.
Document Verification & Medical Examination
Candidates provisionally selected based on final merit list are called for document verification. Original certificates for educational qualification, age proof, caste/category, domicile etc. must be produced. A medical fitness examination is conducted at a designated Government hospital. Candidates found ineligible at DV/Medical are replaced by the next candidate in the waiting list.
Final Merit List, Service Allotment & Appointment
JPSC prepares the final merit list based on combined Mains (950 marks) + Interview (100 marks) = 1050 total marks. Candidates indicate service preferences (e.g., JAS, JPS, Information Service). Allotment is based on merit rank + category + service preference. Appointment orders are issued by the Jharkhand Government, followed by probationary training at LBSNAA, Mussoorie / State Training Academy.
Documents Required at Verification Stage
Keep originals + two self-attested photocopies of each document. All documents must match the information declared in the online application form. Discrepancies may lead to disqualification.
