MP Police Aarakshak (Band) Recruitment 2026 — Complete Notification Overview

The Madhya Pradesh Police Department has issued this special recruitment specifically to establish Police Bands across every district of the state. Unlike routine constable recruitments, Aarakshak (Band) posts require candidates to be practising musicians capable of performing in a brass, woodwind, or percussion band. The entire recruitment process is administered by the Visbal Headquarters (Armed Police), Bhopal through a specially constituted Selection Committee.

The 679 posts are a state-level cadre, distributed horizontally into three streams — Open/Direct (509 posts), Home Guard quota (102 posts), and Ex-Serviceman quota (68 posts) — and vertically across reservation categories following the Madhya Pradesh state roster. Women candidates are explicitly excluded from this recruitment as clearly stated in the official notification. Candidates from outside Madhya Pradesh may apply only for Unreserved Open posts with no reservation or age-relaxation benefits.

Category-wise Vacancy Details — 679 Posts Across All MP Districts

The 679 posts follow Madhya Pradesh's state-level reservation roster with vertical categories — UR (27%), SC (16%), ST (20%), OBC (27%), EWS (10%) — and horizontal sub-categories for Home Guard (15%) and Ex-Serviceman (10%). These horizontal quotas are accommodated within the vertical categories, not added separately. The final vacancy count at the time of selection may vary based on actual requirements, as the notification explicitly states that advertised numbers may increase or decrease.

📌 HG and Ex-Serviceman quota notes: Home Guard 15% reservation and Ex-Serviceman 10% reservation apply horizontally within each vertical category as per MP Government orders. Persons with Disabilities (PwD) are exempt from Police Department recruitment as per MP Govt. circular dated 04.04.1995. Unreserved (UR) category is an open competitive category — reserved category candidates scoring above the UR cut-off are counted in UR, not in their reserved category.
04
Eligibility Criteria — Nationality, Education, Instrument & Other Conditions

The eligibility conditions for Aarakshak (Band) posts combine standard government job requirements with a unique mandatory musical instrument proficiency condition. Unlike any other police constable post, you must know at least one instrument from the 18-instrument mandatory List A — this is verified through the Stage 1 Skill Test, and failure to demonstrate instrument proficiency eliminates the candidate regardless of educational or physical qualifications. This makes the MP Police Band recruitment a highly specialised and competitive opening for musician candidates.

The educational bar is kept deliberately accessible: 10th class pass for UR, OBC, and SC candidates, and only 8th class pass for ST candidates. There is no minimum percentage requirement in the qualifying examination. No educational relaxation is ordinarily given, though the Selection Committee retains discretionary authority in exceptional cases at the recommendation of the appointing authority.

GenderMale onlyFemale candidates are NOT eligible for Aarakshak (Band) posts

05
Instruments — List A (Mandatory) & List B (Bonus Marks)

The instrument lists are central to this entire recruitment. List A consists of 18 instruments drawn from Western brass, woodwind, and percussion traditions used in formal military and police band performances. Knowledge of at least one List A instrument is non-negotiable and is tested in the Stage 1 Skill Test — this is a pass/fail assessment with no marks awarded at this stage. Only candidates who pass the Skill Test proceed to the Band Playing Test.

List B instruments are optional but strategically valuable. Each List B instrument you are proficient in earns 5 bonus marks in the Stage 2 Band Playing Test, up to a maximum of 15 bonus marks. Since the Band Playing Test is out of 75 marks total (60 for the trade test + 15 bonus), a candidate with 3 or more List B instruments effectively starts the Band Test with a significant head start. Candidates with Indian classical instrument skills — Sitar, Tabla, Harmonium, Bansuri, Sarod, Sarangi, or Santoor — also qualify for these bonus marks under List B.

Age is calculated with reference to 19 April 2026 — the application closing date. The minimum age is 18 years for all candidates. The maximum age ceiling varies significantly by category. Out-of-state candidates receive absolutely no age relaxation of any kind — their cap is fixed at 33 years regardless of caste or any other ground, as per MP Government order dated 12 May 2017. Contractual workers such as Shiksha Karmi and Panchayat Karmi are also not entitled to age relaxation.

  • CRPF, BSF, ITBP and other Central paramilitary / police force personnel are NOT entitled to ex-serviceman age relaxation

Exam Pattern — Skill Test, Band Playing Test & Interview

The MP Police Band Constable selection is a three-stage process with no written MCQ examination. The entire evaluation is performance-based — your ability to actually play instruments is what determines your selection. The Band Playing Test (Stage 2) carries the most weight in the final merit, and the bonus mark system for List B instruments means candidates who are multi-instrumentalists have a concrete numerical advantage going into the merit list.

The interview at Stage 3 evaluates not just musical knowledge but also broader attributes: NCC certificate, sports achievements, personality, communication skills, and general awareness — all of which contribute to the 25-mark interview score. The final merit list is prepared category-wise and unit allotment follows merit order. In case two candidates score equally, the older candidate is ranked higher.

Final Score (out of 100) = Band Playing Test Score (max 75) + Interview Score (max 25)
Band Test = 60 marks (List A trade test) + up to 15 bonus marks (List B) | Qualifying: 50% for UR/OBC/EWS, 40% for SC/ST

  • Priority bonus (5% extra in Band Test): Families of soldiers martyred in India-Pakistan conflict, surplus election/census employees, NCC "C" Certificate holders, Indian citizens from Burma/Ceylon, and contingency fund employees get 5% additional marks on their Band Playing Test score

How to Apply Online — Step-by-Step Guide

Applications for MP Police Aarakshak (Band) Recruitment 2026 must be submitted exclusively through mponline.gov.in. No other mode of application — offline, postal, or email — is accepted. The application form number generated on successful registration is the key to downloading the admit card at a later stage. Candidates are responsible for keeping this number safe. Losing the application number means you may not be able to retrieve your admit card.

Before opening the portal, prepare everything in advance. The portal may time out if you take too long to fill information. Have all documents, photograph, and details ready. You may submit multiple applications, but only the last complete application submitted will be retained — previous submissions are automatically discarded.

1

Collect & Scan All Documents Before Opening the Portal

Gather: passport-size photograph, signature on white paper, all educational certificates, age proof, domicile certificate, caste/EWS certificate (if applicable), Aadhar card, Home Guard / Ex-Serviceman certificates (if applicable). Scan all documents in PDF/JPEG within the size limits specified on the portal. Prepare a mental note of your List A instrument choice and whether you have List B instruments — you will need to declare these in the form.

Fill Application Form — Carefully Enter All Details

Enter all personal details, educational qualifications, instrument details, category, and domicile information. Declare your List A instrument of choice and any List B instruments for bonus marks. 4

Upload Photograph, Signature & Required Documents

Upload passport-size photograph, signature, and all required certificates in the formats and sizes specified by the portal. All uploads must be clear and legible — blurry or incorrect document uploads lead to rejection at the document verification stage during physical measurement. Preview each uploaded file before submitting.

Yes, out-of-state candidates can apply but with strict limitations:

❌ Can only apply for Unreserved Open posts — no reserved category posts
No age relaxation of any kind — maximum age is 33 years
No fee concession — must pay ₹500 exam fee regardless of caste

Post-selection service conditions are detailed in the official notification:

No posting in home district — selected candidates are posted at units other than their home district
✓ Must complete minimum 5 years of service at the initially allotted unit before becoming eligible for inter-unit transfer
✓ Unit allotment done by Police Headquarters in order of merit rank as per administrative requirements
✓ Training includes physical training, drill, musical instrument training, and band performance training
✓ Candidates who fail to report to training without prior written permission from competent authority have their selection cancelled — medical certificates not accepted
