Who Is Eligible to Apply
🎖️
Service Background
Only those who have retired from Odisha State Police in one of the three ranks listed below are eligible. No other category — including CAPF, Army, Navy, Air Force, or police from other states — qualifies for this drive.

• Retired Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI)
• Retired Sub-Inspector (SI)
• Retired Inspector of Police
🇮🇳
Residency & Language
A candidate must hold permanent residency in Odisha and be fully conversant in the Odia language — meaning they can speak, read, and write Odia with ease. Both conditions are compulsory; neither can be waived.
🎂
Age Ceiling
The upper age boundary is 65 years, calculated as on 27 February 2026 — the date the notification was published. Since all applicants are already retired, there is no lower age threshold specified.
📋
Service Record & Performance Rating
Candidates need a clean, unblemished service record — with no conviction in any criminal case and no major departmental penalty imposed during their career.

They must also have earned a Very Good or Good rating in their CCR / PAR consistently for 60 months (five years) running up to their retirement date.
⚖️
Legal & Personal Conditions
At the time of applying, candidates must have no criminal case currently pending against them in any court or forum.

Additionally, candidates must not have more than one living spouse — this condition applies to all candidates irrespective of gender.
🏠
Government Accommodation
Any candidate who was allotted a government quarter or official accommodation during their service period must have fully vacated it prior to applying. Candidates still occupying such accommodation are ineligible.
⛔ Grounds for Automatic Disqualification
  • Not a permanent resident of Odisha or cannot read, write and speak Odia.
  • Age exceeds 65 years as on 27 February 2026.
  • Retired from CAPF, Indian Armed Forces, or police forces of any other state.
  • Has a criminal conviction or major departmental punishment on record.
  • Has a criminal or vigilance case still pending at the time of application.
  • Did not maintain a Very Good / Good CCR/PAR for 60 consecutive months before retiring.
  • Has more than one living spouse.
  • Has not yet vacated an allotted government quarter.
04
Application Fee
₹0
Completely Free to Apply
The official notification does not prescribe any application fee whatsoever. Every eligible retired officer can apply at zero cost. Beware of anyone demanding payment in exchange for processing your application — no such fee exists, and paying one could expose you to fraud.
05
Remuneration
Pay Fixed Under
Government of Odisha — Finance Department
Memo No. 24533/F  |  Dated 22 September 2022
The monthly pay for each SPO is governed by the above Finance Department order, which sets the remuneration according to the retired rank of the individual. The exact figure applicable to your rank (ASI / SI / Inspector) can be confirmed at the concerned Range SP Office or by consulting the official notification PDF.
👔 Note on Uniform: Every officer selected as SPO will be required to wear the prescribed uniform and badge throughout the tenure, as directed by the DG & IG of Police, Odisha.

How Candidates Are Selected
1

Submit Offline Application — Deadline 30 March 2026, 5:30 PM

A typed application in the prescribed format, complete with all supporting documents, must be personally delivered or posted to the Police Commissionerate, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack (for that area) or the relevant Range IsGP / DIsGP office for all other districts. The packet must arrive before the 5:30 PM cut-off on 30 March 2026. Anything received after that will be turned away without review.

2

Document Verification — 17 April 2026, 6:30 AM

Shortlisted candidates report to the respective Police Commissionerate or Range Headquarters by 6:30 AM on 17 April 2026. Original documents are examined and verified against the copies submitted with the application. Candidates whose originals are missing or inconsistent will be excluded at this point.

3

Medical Fitness Assessment

A Medical Board carries out a thorough physical health check of every candidate who clears document verification. The Board's verdict on whether a candidate is medically fit is final and cannot be challenged. Candidates with physical deformities or conditions that affect field readiness will not proceed further. Only those declared medically fit advance to the next round.

4

Physical Endurance Test — 5 km on Foot in 1 Hour

Medically cleared candidates must complete a 5-kilometre run within one hour. This test is designed to confirm that each candidate has the stamina and physical fitness needed for SPO duties, which involve hard field work for up to 8 hours a day or night. Failure to finish within the time limit means immediate disqualification.

5

Interview Before the Selection Board

Candidates who pass both the medical and physical tests sit before a Selection Board, which evaluates each person's suitability — considering their service background, conduct record, and overall profile — for the role of Special Police Officer. The Board's final decision on who gets selected is binding.

Step-by-Step Application Guide
1

Get the Official Form from police.odisha.gov.in

Fill in all fields without skipping any — personal details, rank at retirement, date of superannuation, the organisation you retired from, CCR/PAR grading summary, criminal case disclosure, Odia language proficiency status, whether any government quarter is still occupied, physical measurements, and your mobile number. Sign both declaration sections (Part A and Part B).

Odisha Police SPO Recruitment 2026 FAQ

Q1. Can a retired CRPF or BSF officer apply for Odisha Police SPO 2026?

No. This recruitment is strictly limited to individuals who retired from the Odisha State Police in the rank of ASI, Sub-Inspector, or Inspector. Personnel who served in Central Armed Police Forces (CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP, SSB) or in the armed forces (Army, Navy, Air Force) are not eligible, regardless of rank or years of service.

Q2. What happens if my application reaches the office after 5:30 PM on 30 March 2026?

Late applications are rejected outright — no review, no consideration, no exceptions. The 5:30 PM deadline on 30 March 2026 is absolute. If you are sending your application by post, dispatch it several days early so that transit time does not push you past the deadline. Hand delivery is safer if you are close to the concerned Range office.

Q3. What is the physical test and how hard is it?

The physical endurance test requires candidates to cover 5 kilometres on foot within 1 hour. It is designed to confirm that an applicant can handle field duties involving hard physical labour for up to 8 hours continuously. Candidates who do not finish the distance within the time limit are disqualified. Only those who clear both the Medical Board and this test proceed to the interview.

Q4. Is there any application fee, and should I pay anyone who offers to help?

The official notification prescribes zero application fee — applying costs nothing at all. If any agent, middleman, or individual asks you to pay a processing fee or facilitation charge, treat it as fraud and do not pay. The selection is purely merit-based.

Q5. Where do I submit my application if my preferred district is Angul or Deogarh?

Both Angul and Deogarh fall under the North Central Range (NCR). Applications for these districts must be submitted to the IG of Police, North Central Range, Talcher. Refer to the district-wise vacancy table to identify the correct Range office for your chosen district.
