📌 Difference Between the Two Cadres
  • District Police Cadre: Constables are posted at police stations within a specific district. Primary responsibilities include general law enforcement, community policing, patrolling, traffic management, and assistance in criminal investigations. Posting location is generally within a fixed district range.
  • Armed Police Cadre: Constables are deployed in armed battalions for specialized duties — VIP protection, anti-terrorist operations, border security, emergency response, and internal security assignments. Postings are more mobile and can be across the entire state of Punjab.
  • The Police Recruitment Board prepares separate merit lists for each cadre, and within each cadre, separate lists exist for each category (General, SC, BC, EWS, Ex-Servicemen, Wards of Police Personnel, Freedom Fighters).

Cut-Off Marks — Stage-Wise, Category-Wise & Previous Year Analysis

The Punjab Police Constable 2025-26 cut-off operates in three stages — each stage has its own cut-off threshold. Two types of marks apply at every stage: the minimum qualifying marks (fixed floor from the official notification) and the actual stage cut-off (merit-based, set after normalization). Candidates must clear both at every stage to proceed.

📝 Stage I — CBT (Paper I) Minimum Qualifying Marks

CategoryMin. Qualifying (Paper I / 100)Paper II — Punjabi (Min.)Paper II in Merit?
General / UR40 marks (40%)50 marks (50%)No — qualifying only
SC35 marks (35%)50 marks (50%)No — qualifying only

Ex-Servicemen35 marks (35%)50 marks (50%)No — qualifying only
Wards of Police / DefenceAs per parent category50 marks (50%)No — qualifying only
⚠️ These are minimum qualifying marks only. With 4.7+ lakh candidates competing for 1,746 posts, the actual Stage I cut-off (released 22 September 2025) is significantly higher. Download the official cut-off PDF at punjabpolice.gov.in → Recruitment → Constable 2025 Cut-Off.

📌 About the Stage II Cut-Off
  • Stage II cut-off = minimum normalized CBT Paper I score required to reach Document Verification, after also qualifying the physical tests (PMT + PST).
  • Exact figures are in the official PDF released on 18 November 2025 at punjabpolice.gov.in alongside the Physical Stage Result.
  • Male and female candidates have separate cut-offs within each category — female cut-offs are generally lower due to separate vacancy slots.
  • Separate cut-offs exist for District Police Cadre and Armed Police Cadre — they are not the same even within the same category and gender.

📊 Previous Year Reference — 2024 DV Stage Cut-Off Trend

The 2024 recruitment cycle Stage III (Document Verification) cut-off serves as the best benchmark for 2025-26 candidates. Key pattern observed across years:

✅ Exact 2024 cut-off figures with specific marks are in the official PDF at punjabpolice.gov.in. For 2025-26 Stage II & III exact numbers, download the cut-off PDFs under Recruitment → Advt. 01/2025.
📈 6 Factors That Decide the Cut-Off Each Year
  • Total Vacancies (1,746): Compared to 2024, the vacancy count is similar — keeping competition in the same range.
  • Number of Applicants: Over 4.7 lakh candidates appeared for the 2025 CBT — extremely high competition pushes General category cut-off well above minimum qualifying marks.
  • Exam Difficulty: An easier paper raises average scores and thus the cut-off; a harder paper brings it down. Normalization across 6+ weeks of shifts ensures fairness.
  • Normalization: Your normalized Paper I score (not raw marks) determines merit position — students with the same raw score from different shifts may have different normalized scores.
  • Category Reservation: SC, BC, EWS, Ex-Servicemen and Wards of Police/Defence each have separate vacancy pools — reserved category cut-offs are consistently below General.
  • Gender: Male and female candidates are ranked separately within every category — female cut-offs are typically lower than male cut-offs in the same category.

Understanding the Merit List — What It Means for You
📋
What the Merit List PDF Contains
Each PDF lists the roll numbers of provisionally shortlisted candidates for that specific cadre and category. It does not individually display marks or ranks — only qualifying roll numbers appear. Use Ctrl+F to search for your number within the PDF instantly.
⚖️
Normalization Applied
Because the CBT ran across multiple shifts over 6+ weeks, marks are normalized for cross-shift fairness. Your normalized score — not your raw marks — determines your merit ranking. This is standard practice in multi-shift competitive exams.
🗂️
Separate Lists by Cadre & Category
Punjab Police maintains individual merit lists for District and Armed cadres, and within each — for General, SC, BC, EWS, Ex-Servicemen, Wards of Police Personnel, and Wards of Freedom Fighters. Male and female candidates are ranked separately within each category.
⚠️
Why It Is Called "Provisional"
The result is provisional because final appointment depends on successful Document Verification. If your original documents show any mismatch with your application — category, name, date of birth, qualification — your candidature can be cancelled even after the merit list. Only post-DV does selection become final.
07
Complete Selection Process — All Stages
1

Stage I — Computer Based Test (CBT) ✅ Completed

The CBT was conducted between 4 May and 18 June 2025 across multiple Punjab exam centres. Paper I (100 marks, 2 hours) covered Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, General Awareness, English Language, and Digital Literacy — and forms the sole basis of merit ranking. Paper II (Punjabi Language, 1 hour) is qualifying only with 50% required. No negative marking applies to either paper. Marks were normalized across shifts before result compilation.

2

Stage II — PMT & PST (Physical Tests) ✅ Completed

CBT qualifiers were called for the Physical Measurement Test (PMT) and Physical Screening Test (PST) from October 2025 onwards. The PMT measured height (min. 170.2 cm for male, 157.5 cm for female/transgender) and chest measurement for male candidates. The PST tested physical endurance through running and jumping tasks. Both tests are qualifying — they do not add marks to the merit score. The Physical Stage Result was released on 18 November 2025. Note: Pregnant female candidates could request PST/PMT postponement by submitting a government hospital medical certificate — with one opportunity within 6 months of delivery.

3

Stage III — Provisional Final Result ✅ Declared 06 March 2026

The Provisional Final Result combining normalized CBT Paper I performance and PST/PMT qualification was officially declared on 06 March 2026 at 2:00 PM. Separate cadre-wise and category-wise merit list PDFs are available at punjabpolice.gov.in. Candidates whose roll numbers appear in these PDFs are provisionally shortlisted for the Document Verification stage.

5

Stage V — Final Appointment as Punjab Police Constable

Candidates who clear Document Verification and pass all checks receive their formal appointment as Punjab Police Constable. Starting basic pay: ₹19,900 per month. Total monthly salary including DA, HRA, and other allowances is approximately ₹29,500 per month. Posting is to District Police or Armed Police Cadre as per candidate's merit and cadre applied for.

Documents Required for Document Verification

Provisionally shortlisted candidates must carry all original documents along with at least 2 sets of self-attested photocopies at the DV venue on the scheduled date. The Punjab Police Recruitment Board does not accept candidates without originals under any circumstances.

✗ Top Reasons Candidates Get Rejected at DV — Avoid These
  • Category certificate issued by another state or not in the Government of Punjab prescribed format — these are rejected outright regardless of category validity.
  • Mismatch in name, date of birth, or category between the online application and original certificates.
  • Arriving without original documents — self-attested photocopies alone are not sufficient for DV.
  • Domicile / Residence certificate not of Punjab state, or issued by an authority not recognized as competent by Punjab Government.
  • Not carrying the DV call letter or schedule — always download it from punjabpolice.gov.in once announced.
  • Punjabi Language qualification not demonstrated at Matriculation level (compulsory for all candidates including General category).

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1
When was the Punjab Police Constable Result 2025-26 declared?
+
The Punjab Police Constable Provisional Final Result 2025-26 was officially declared on 06 March 2026 at 2:00 PM at the official portal punjabpolice.gov.in. This result is for 1,746 Constable vacancies (1,261 District Cadre + 485 Armed Cadre) under Advertisement No. 01/2025. Separate category-wise merit list PDFs for both cadres are now available for download. Candidates whose roll numbers appear in these PDFs are provisionally shortlisted for Document Verification (DV), the final recruitment stage.
Q2
How do I check my result in the Punjab Police Constable merit list PDF?
+
Visit punjabpolice.gov.in and go to the Recruitment section. Click on the Provisional Final Result link. Select your cadre (District Police or Armed Police) and your correct category (General, SC, BC, EWS, Ex-Servicemen, etc.). Download the PDF. Once open, press Ctrl+F (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+F (Mac) and type your exact Roll Number. If your roll number appears in the PDF, you are provisionally shortlisted for Document Verification. If not found, you have not qualified this stage. Save a printout of the page showing your roll number immediately.
Q3
How many total vacancies are there and what are the two cadres?
+
A total of 1,746 Constable vacancies were announced under Advertisement No. 01/2025 by the Police Recruitment Board, Punjab. Of these, 1,261 posts are in the District Police Cadre (general law enforcement, community policing, and station-based duties across Punjab districts) and 485 posts are in the Armed Police Cadre (armed battalions, VIP protection, anti-terrorist operations, and specialized state-level security duties). The recruitment, examination, physical tests, and result are conducted jointly, but separate merit lists are maintained for each cadre.
Q4
What are the minimum qualifying marks (cut-off) for Punjab Police Constable 2025-26?
+
The minimum qualifying marks for Paper I (CBT) are 40% for General / UR candidates and 35% for SC, BC (OBC), EWS, and Ex-Servicemen candidates. For Paper II (Punjabi Language), a minimum of 50% is required for all categories — but this is purely qualifying and these marks are NOT counted in the merit ranking. The actual cut-off for shortlisting to DV is typically higher than the minimum qualifying marks and varies by cadre, category, and gender based on the number of vacancies and the normalized performance of all candidates. Category-wise official cut-offs were released at punjabpolice.gov.in around February 2026.
Q5
What is the next stage after the Punjab Police Constable Provisional Final Result?
+
The next and final stage before appointment is Document Verification (DV). All candidates whose roll numbers appear in the Provisional Final Result merit list PDFs will be called for DV at designated centres on a date to be announced by the Police Recruitment Board, Punjab. Candidates must appear with all original documents and self-attested photocopies as specified in the official DV notice. Any mismatch or missing documents leads to disqualification. The DV schedule will be published at punjabpolice.gov.in — check daily. After successful DV, selected candidates receive formal appointment orders as Punjab Police Constable.
Q6
Is the Punjabi Language (Paper II) score included in the merit list?
+
No. Paper II (Punjabi Language Test) is qualifying only. Candidates must score a minimum of 50% marks in Paper II to remain eligible, but these marks are never added to the merit calculation. All merit ranking is based solely on normalized Paper I (CBT) marks. A candidate can score full marks in Paper II but still be eliminated if they fail to meet the 50% qualifying threshold. Conversely, a candidate scoring exactly 50% in Paper II who scores high in Paper I will be ranked based on their Paper I normalized score alone.
Q7
What is the monthly salary of a Punjab Police Constable after appointment?
+
On formal appointment as Punjab Police Constable, the basic pay is ₹19,900 per month as per the Punjab Government Pay Matrix (Level 4). The total monthly salary including Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Medical Allowance, Uniform Allowance, and other applicable allowances is approximately ₹29,500 per month. Annual increments of 3% are applied. Constables can advance to Head Constable, then ASI (Assistant Sub-Inspector), and SI (Sub-Inspector) through departmental examinations over their service period.
Q8
Why is the result called "Provisional" and not "Final"?
+
The result is termed "Provisional" because the selection is still subject to successful completion of Document Verification (DV). During DV, the Police Recruitment Board physically verifies all original documents against the information submitted in the online application form. If any discrepancy is found — wrong category certificate, name mismatch, incorrect date of birth, forged documents, or missing Punjabi qualification — the candidature of that individual is cancelled, even if their roll number appeared in the Provisional merit list PDF. Only after passing DV does the selection become confirmed and appointment orders are issued.
