Selection Process — 100% Merit Based

📐 Merit List Formula

Merit % = (10th Marks % + ITI Marks %) ÷ 2
Equal weightage of 50% each. Both marks are taken as percentage of total marks in respective examinations.
1st
If merit % is tied → Older candidate (earlier DOB) gets preference
2nd
If DOB is also same → candidate who passed Matriculation earlier gets preference
1

Merit List Generation (Computerised)

RRC CR generates separate merit lists for each cluster + trade + community combination based solely on the data filled in the online application. Accuracy of data entered is critical — discrepancies found at DV lead to immediate disqualification.

2

Shortlisting & Call for Document Verification

Candidates ranked within the notified slots (plus a waiting list) are called for Document Verification (DV) at the respective cluster (Mumbai / Bhusawal / Pune / Solapur). Original certificates must be produced.

3

Medical Fitness Examination

Candidates who clear document verification are referred for a medical fitness examination at a Railway hospital or Government hospital. Candidates must be medically fit as per Railway norms for the applied trade.

4

Final Engagement & Training Commencement

Candidates who clear DV and Medical are finally engaged as Act Apprentice Trainees. Training period is one year at the respective Railway workshop/unit. On successful completion, a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) is issued by NCVT.

No written exam No interview No physical test Purely merit-based on 10th + ITI marks

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the last date to apply for RRC CR Apprentice 2026?

+
The last date to apply online is 9 April 2026 at 5:00 PM (17:00 HRS). Applications must be submitted through the official portal at rrccr.com. The window opened on 10 March 2026. No extensions are typically granted, so apply well before the deadline.

How many total vacancies are there and in which trades?

+
A total of 51 Act Apprentice training slots have been notified. Trade-wise breakdown: Stenographer — 37 posts, Mechanic Refrigeration & AC — 9 posts, Mason — 3 posts, Fitter (Engineering) — 2 posts. These are distributed across four clusters: Mumbai, Bhusawal, Pune, and Solapur.

Is there any written exam or interview for this recruitment?

+
No. Selection is 100% merit-based with no written examination, no interview, and no physical test. The merit list is prepared by taking the simple average of the percentage of marks in Matriculation (10th) and ITI — both given equal weightage of 50%.

What is the minimum marks required in 10th and ITI?

+
Candidates must have passed Matriculation (10th) with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks. There is no separately prescribed minimum for ITI — the ITI certificate must be an NTC (National Trade Certificate) from NCVT or SCVT in the relevant trade. However, higher marks in both improve your merit ranking.

Can I apply from outside Maharashtra / anywhere in India?

+
Yes. There is no domicile or state restriction. All India candidates who meet the eligibility criteria can apply. However, the training will be conducted only at the cluster you choose (Mumbai, Bhusawal, Pune, or Solapur) — so you must be prepared to relocate for the 1-year training period.

What is the stipend amount and is it revised?

+
The monthly stipend is ₹9,600 per month, revised as per RBE No. 116/2025 (dated 11 November 2025) issued by the Ministry of Railways. No hostel accommodation is provided. The stipend is paid for the entire 1-year training duration.

Does completing this apprenticeship guarantee a permanent railway job?

+
Apprenticeship training does not guarantee permanent employment. However, Course Completed Act Apprentices (CCAA) who receive a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) from NCVT are given preference for up to 20% of Level-1 (erstwhile Group D) vacancies in future RRC recruitment notifications, which is a significant advantage.

What happens if two candidates have the same merit percentage?

+
In case of a tie, preference is given to the older candidate (earlier date of birth). If the DOB is also identical, preference goes to the candidate who passed Matriculation earlier (earlier pass year). This tiebreak is applied in order and is final.
