📌 About Horizontal Reservation: Horizontal reservation (क्षैतिज आरक्षण) is independent of vertical category reservation. A candidate selected under horizontal reservation (e.g., as a Woman or Ex-Serviceman) is adjusted within their own category (OC/SC/ST/OBC/EWS) in the final merit list. Vacant posts due to UP Government reservation policy changes may increase or decrease — total vacancy numbers may be revised before the final recruitment closes.
04
Eligibility Criteria — Complete Requirements

Educational Qualification

🎓 Mandatory Educational Qualification (अनिवार्य अहर्ता): Candidates must have passed Intermediate (10+2 / Class XII) or an equivalent examination from the Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, Uttar Pradesh, or any equivalent institution recognised by the Government of India or Uttar Pradesh. No minimum percentage or specific stream is required — any stream (Arts, Commerce, Science) qualifies.

Preferential Qualification (Adhimani Aharta)

Preferential Qualification: Under UP Excise Constable Service Rules 1983 (as amended), candidates who have either (a) served in the Territorial Army for at least two years, or (b) hold the 'B' Certificate of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) will be given preference in direct recruitment, all else being equal. This is a tiebreaker — it does not create additional vacancies.

PET-2025 Requirement

⚠️ PET-2025 is mandatory: Only candidates who (a) appeared in PET-2025 (Preliminary Eligibility Test — 2025) AND (b) have received a Score Card from UPSSSC are eligible to apply. Candidates who scored zero or negative (absolute) marks in PET-2025 are NOT eligible. The shortlisting for the Main Exam is based on PET-2025 normalised score — candidates scoring up to the final cutoff at 15× the category-wise vacancy count will be shortlisted.

Complete Selection Process — Step by Step
1

PET-2025 Screening & Shortlisting for Main Exam

Candidates are shortlisted for the Main Written Exam based on their PET-2025 normalised score. UPSSSC shortlists candidates up to 15 times the category-wise vacancy count from the merit list of PET-2025 score holders. All candidates whose PET-2025 normalised score (up to 2 decimal places) falls at or above the final cutoff are included in the shortlist. Candidates with zero or negative scores in PET-2025 are excluded.

2

Main Written Examination — 100 Marks (Merit-Deciding Stage)

Shortlisted candidates appear in the Main Written Examination — a single 100-question MCQ paper covering General Studies (80 marks), Computer & IT (15 marks), and UP General Information (20 marks). Duration: 2 hours. Negative marking: 25% per wrong answer (¼ mark). This is the only merit-determining stage — the Main Exam score alone decides the final merit rank. Admit cards are downloaded from upsssc.gov.in; exam date and centre are printed on the admit card.

3

Physical Measurement Test (PMT) — Qualifying Stage

Candidates shortlisted on the basis of Main Exam scores are called for the Physical Measurement Test. Male candidates are checked for chest (minimum 80 cm unexpanded, 85 cm expanded) and height (minimum 167.6 cm). Female candidates are checked for weight (minimum 45 kg) and height (minimum 152 cm for General/OBC/EWS, 147 cm for SC/ST). This is qualifying only — no marks are added to merit. Candidates failing the PMT are eliminated from further stages.

4

Physical Efficiency Test (PET) — Qualifying Stage

Candidates who clear PMT appear in the Physical Efficiency Test. Male candidates must complete a 4.8 km run in 25 minutes. Female candidates must complete a 2.4 km run in 14 minutes. Candidates who fail to complete the run within the stipulated time are not eligible for appointment. This is also qualifying only — does not contribute to merit ranking. Both PMT and PET are organised by the Commission after the written exam shortlisting.

5

Document Verification & Final Merit List

After clearing all qualifying stages, candidates undergo document verification. Required documents include High School certificate (age proof), Intermediate certificate (educational qualification), category certificate (caste/EWS), Aadhaar, and other relevant documents as per the notification. The final merit list is prepared based solely on Main Exam written test marks, respecting all vertical and horizontal reservation norms. Appointment orders are issued by the Office of the Excise Commissioner, Prayagraj.
