Stage 1 — Preliminary Examination (Screening Test)
150 questions / 150 marks / 150 minutes — Objective MCQ format — covers General Knowledge, General Odia, Mathematics, Reasoning, and Basic Technical Knowledge. This is a qualifying/screening stage only — marks scored in Prelims are NOT included in the final merit list. Approximately 10–15 times the number of vacancies are shortlisted post-wise and category-wise for the Main Examination. Negative marking of 0.25 marks per wrong answer applies.

Stage 2 — Main Written Examination (Technical Paper)
200 marks / 120 minutes — The Main Exam is primarily a Technical Paper testing core subject knowledge relevant to the applied post — Civil Engineering fundamentals for JE posts, or relevant technical subjects for Architectural Assistant, Media, and Draughtsman posts. Final merit ranking is based entirely on Mains marks. Approximately 5 times the number of vacancies (category-wise) are shortlisted for Certificate Verification from the Mains merit list. Negative marking of 0.25 applies here too.

Stage 3 — Certificate Verification (DV) + Detailed Application Form (DAF)
Candidates shortlisted from Main Exam are called for Certificate Verification at the OSSC office in Bhubaneswar. Original academic certificates, marksheets, caste certificate, special category certificates (PwD/Ex-SM/Sports), NOC for Govt. servants, and other documents as mentioned in the Admission Letter must be produced. Candidates also submit the Detailed Application Form (DAF) with their departmental preferences. Failure to appear at DV means the candidate's name is dropped from the merit list. OSSC commissions exactly the number of candidates equalling the notified vacancies per service/post.

Stage 4 — Medical Examination
Finally selected candidates are required to undergo a Medical Examination at a designated government hospital to assess physical fitness for the service. Candidates declared medically fit are issued appointment orders and posted to their allotted departments/HoDs across Odisha. Postings are statewide — candidates must be willing to serve at any location.

Yes. OSSC has provided a dedicated correction/edit window from 2 to 5 July 2026 for candidates who need to correct mistakes made in their submitted application forms. Candidates can login with their credentials and rectify errors in personal details, category, qualification information, or other fields during this window. Not all fields may be editable — verify which fields can be corrected in the official correction window guidelines published by OSSC.
Can candidates from outside Odisha apply for OSSC CTSRE 2026?+
Indian nationals can apply, but there are important conditions. Reserved category benefits — including age relaxation for SEBC/SC/ST, PwD fee exemption, and Women category reservation — are available only to Odisha-domicile candidates. Non-Odisha residents must apply under the General (UR) category regardless of their caste/category. What is the salary for Junior Engineer (Civil) posts in OSSC CTSRE 2026?+
Junior Engineer (Civil) is a Group B post with Pay Level-9, Cell-1 under ORSP Rules 2017 — the pay scale is ₹35,400 to ₹1,12,400. In addition to basic pay, candidates receive Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Travel Allowance (TA), and other admissible allowances as per Odisha Govt. service rules. The estimated gross salary at the time of joining (including current DA) is approximately ₹50,000–60,000 per month depending on posting location.
What is the post allotment process — how is department decided for JE (Civil)?+
Since Junior Engineer (Civil) vacancies are collated from multiple departments — Water Resources, Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water, and Municipal Administration — the allotment to a particular department is done on the basis of merit-cum-preference. Candidates shortlisted for Certificate Verification fill in the Detailed Application Form (DAF) at that stage, where they rank their departmental preferences. OSSC then allots departments based on the candidate's rank in the merit list and their stated preferences. Candidates with higher merit scores get priority in departmental allotment.
