7. Selection Process

5 stages — from online exam to medical fitness — all mandatory, sequential

  1. Phase-I — Online Written Examination (22–23 September 2026) — a computer-based objective test assessing general knowledge, numerical/reasoning ability, and English comprehension at a level appropriate to the chosen stream. Candidates indicate 5 preferred exam centre choices, though CASB reserves the right to allot any centre.
  2. Phase-II(a) — Physical Fitness Test (PFT) — candidates shortlisted from the written exam undergo a physical fitness assessment: PFT-I is a 1.6 Km run (Male: 7 minutes, Female: 8 minutes), and PFT-II covers push-ups, sit-ups, and squats as per IAF-prescribed standards. Both components must be cleared to proceed.
  3. Phase-II(b) — Adaptability Test-I & Adaptability Test-II — these tests evaluate a candidate’s psychological suitability and adaptability to military service life, discipline, and team environments typical of Air Force operations. Adaptability Test-II generally extends this into an assessment of group behaviour and decision-making under structured conditions.
  4. Phase-III — Medical Examination & Document Verification — conducted by the Air Force Medical Team as per IAF medical standards, including baseline investigations such as blood tests, urine tests, X-ray, ECG, and USG (for female candidates). Original documents — educational certificates, identity proof, domicile proof — are verified in parallel. An Appeal Medical Board is available (fee: ₹40) for candidates declared medically unfit who wish to contest the decision.
  5. Final Selection — Merit-Based State-Wise List — final selection is based on state-wise merit, medical fitness, vacancy availability, and overall compliance with eligibility criteria. The Provisional Select List (PSL) is published first, followed by the Final Enrolment List with e-call letters sent to selected candidates’ registered emails.

Key Points: 5 preferred exam centres allowed — No TA/DA for any stage — Mobile phones banned in test areas — Malpractice = permanent debarment — Aadhaar mandatory (with exceptions)

9. FAQs

#QuestionAnswer
1What is the last date to apply?Online registration is open from 6 July 2026 to 26 July 2026 (closing at 11:00 PM). Given that the previous intake received over 36 lakh applications, candidates are strongly advised to apply well ahead of the deadline rather than waiting for the final day.
2Can married candidates apply? No. Only unmarried Indian male and female candidates are eligible. Selected candidates must sign an undertaking that they will not marry during their 4-year engagement period. Marriage during this tenure results in discharge from service.
3Will Agniveers get Ex-Servicemen (ESM) status after 4 years? No. As per the Agnipath Scheme, Agniveervayu personnel are not eligible for Ex-Servicemen status upon completion of their 4-year tenure. This differs from personnel under the traditional, longer-tenure recruitment system who do receive ESM status.
4What happens to the 30% salary deduction towards Seva Nidhi? Each month, 30% of the customised monthly package is contributed by the Agniveer towards a Seva Nidhi corpus fund. The Government contributes an equal matching amount. Upon completion of the 4-year tenure, the accumulated corpus — including contribution, matching amount, and interest — is paid out as a lump sum of approximately ₹11.71 lakh (tax-free).
5Can a candidate appear for NDA or AFCAT while serving as an Agniveer?Yes, with conditions. Agniveers are permitted to appear for NDA and AFCAT examinations a maximum of 3 times during their 4-year engagement period, subject to conditions specified by the IAF (availability of leave and operational requirements).
6What if a candidate fails the medical examination — is there any appeal option?Yes. Candidates declared medically unfit at the Phase-III medical examination can apply to an Appeal Medical Board by paying a fee of ₹40. The Appeal Medical Board conducts a fresh, independent assessment, and its decision is typically treated as final.
7Is the application fee refundable if a candidate doesn’t appear for the exam? No. The application fee of ₹550 + 18% GST is completely non-refundable once paid, regardless of whether the candidate appears for the online examination or any subsequent stage. There is no refund provision for any category in this recruitment cycle.
8How is the previous intake (01/2027) different from this 02/2027 intake?Intake 01/2027 had its registration in January–February 2026 (reopened in early March) and conducted its online exam on 30–31 March 2026. The current Intake 02/2027 is a fresh, separate cycle with its own registration window (6–26 July 2026) and exam dates (22–23 September 2026). Candidates who applied to 01/2027 can independently apply again to 02/2027 if they meet the fresh eligibility criteria.
