📌 Which Post to Apply For?

Candidates can apply for both Clerk and Steno-Typist posts if they meet the eligibility for each. The written exam paper is common for both posts, so appearing in one exam covers both. Steno-Typist posts carry a higher pay scale (Level-3 vs Level-2) but the stenography skill test requirement reduces the competition pool significantly — estimated 10,000–15,000 applicants vs 50,000–70,000 for Clerk posts. If you have stenography skills at 80 wpm, applying for Steno-Typist gives a measurably better chance.

ModeOMR-based (Offline) — fill bubbles on OMR sheet
Marking SchemeEach correct answer: +1 mark  |  Wrong answers: ZERO deduction (No negative marking)
Qualifying MarksMinimum 40% in each paper separately (as per official notification)
MediumEnglish only
ApplicabilityCommon paper — same for both Clerk and Steno-Typist candidates
Merit BasisFinal merit list based 100% on Written Exam marks (for candidates qualifying skill test)
Tie-breakingIf marks equal → older candidate ranked higher → if same age, higher bachelor's degree % ranks higher
⭐ No Negative Marking — Attempt All Questions

The OMR-based written exam carries NO negative marking. Every unanswered question is a missed mark — there is no penalty for wrong answers. Candidates should attempt all 200 questions without hesitation. However, be cautious — the official notification requires minimum 40% marks in each paper separately. This means you cannot compensate for a weak Paper 1 by scoring high in Paper 2. Both papers must individually cross the 40-mark threshold (40 out of 100).

10
Skill Test (Qualifying Stage)
Typing Test (Clerk) / Stenography Proficiency Test (Steno-Typist) — Pass/Fail — no merit marks

💻 Typing Test — Clerk Post

Duration: 10 minutes on Computer
Speed Required: Minimum 35 words per minute (wpm) in English
Medium: English language on Computer keyboard
Nature: Qualifying only — Suitable / Unsuitable
Marks: No marks added to merit list
Shortlisting ratio: 20 candidates per vacancy called for skill test

✍ Stenography Proficiency Test — Steno-Typist Post

Part 1 — Dictation: 10 minutes at 80 words per minute in English
Part 2 — Transcription: 50 minutes on Computer in English
Nature: Qualifying only — Suitable / Unsuitable
Marks: No marks added to merit list
Note: Practice transcription on computer — keyboard speed matters here too

🚫 Critical: Skill Test Failure = Disqualification
  • The Skill Test is mandatory and qualifying — failing it completely disqualifies the candidate regardless of written exam performance
  • The ratio of candidates called for skill test is 20× the vacancies — so from the written exam merit list, top 20 candidates per vacancy per category are called
  • For Steno-Typist: Candidates must be comfortable with both shorthand dictation at pace AND computer transcription within the time limit — both parts must be completed
  • Candidates who qualify both written exam (40% per paper minimum) and skill test (Suitable verdict) are called for Document Verification in order of written exam merit

🎯 Chandigarh Clerk Exam 2026 — Preparation Strategy
  • Chandigarh-specific GK is unique: Most candidates from outside Chandigarh miss this section. Study the UT's history, Le Corbusier connection, Capitol Complex, administration structure, and recent Chandigarh Administration schemes. This differentiates toppers from average scorers.
  • No negative marking = attempt all: Never leave any question blank. Even a guess has a 25% chance of being correct. Minimum 40% per paper is required — ensure you cross this threshold in both papers.
  • English section is decisive: With a graduate-level English paper, scoring 75%+ is achievable with regular reading. Focus on comprehension and error spotting — these appear most frequently.
  • Typing practice starts Day 1: 35 wpm sounds easy but on an unfamiliar keyboard under exam pressure, many candidates fail the typing test. Practice 30–60 minutes of English typing daily from the day you apply.
  • For Steno-Typist aspirants: Practice shorthand dictation at varying speeds (75–90 wpm) and time your transcriptions. The 50-minute transcription on computer requires both shorthand accuracy AND computer speed.
  • Paper 1 qualifying > Paper 2 comfort: If you are stronger in English and Maths, ensure Paper 1 (Reasoning + GK + Computer) still crosses 40 marks minimum — focus on both papers equally in the first month.
12
Complete Selection Process
Written Exam → Skill Test (qualifying) → Document Verification — No Interview
1

Stage 1 — OMR Written Examination (200 Marks)

The main qualifying stage — 2 papers of 100 marks each on the same day (Morning + Afternoon session). Both papers are common for Clerk and Steno-Typist candidates. No negative marking. Minimum qualifying marks: 40% in each paper separately. Top candidates (20× vacancies per category) from the written exam merit list are called for the Skill Test. Final selection merit is 100% based on written exam marks.

2

Stage 2 — Skill Test / Proficiency Test (Qualifying)

For Clerk: Typing Test in English on Computer — 10 minutes at 35 words per minute. For Steno-Typist: Dictation at 80 wpm for 10 minutes + Transcription for 50 minutes on Computer in English. Result: Suitable or Unsuitable. No marks added to merit. Candidates declared 'Unsuitable' are eliminated. Only 'Suitable' candidates proceed to Document Verification.

3

Stage 3 — Document Verification

Candidates called in order of written exam merit. Original certificates must be produced — photocopies or self-attested copies are not accepted at this stage. Documents verified: Bachelor's degree, CCC certificate, age proof (Matriculation cert), category certificate, stenography certificate (for Steno-Typist), ESM/PwBD documents (if applicable). Any discrepancy leads to disqualification.

4

Stage 4 — Medical Examination & Final Appointment

Selected candidates after DV undergo a medical examination. Those declared medically fit are issued appointment letters for Group C Ministerial posts in the Common Cadre of Chandigarh Administration. They are liable to be posted in any department of the Chandigarh Administration as per administrative requirements. No interview is conducted at any stage.

Frequently Asked Questions
Complete Q&A on Chandigarh Administration Clerk & Steno-Typist Recruitment 2026
What is the last date to apply for Chandigarh Clerk & Steno-Typist Recruitment 2026?+
The last date to submit the online application is 26 April 2026 at 11:59 PM. The last date for fee payment is 29 April 2026 at 11:59 PM. Applications opened from 6 April 2026 at 11:00 AM at dper.chdadmnrectt.in. Apply early — the window is only 20 days.
Is there negative marking in the Chandigarh Clerk Written Exam 2026?+
No negative marking. Each correct answer awards +1 mark. Wrong answers carry zero deduction. Candidates should attempt all 200 questions. However, a minimum of 40% marks in each paper separately is required to qualify — so Paper 1 and Paper 2 must each individually cross 40 marks (out of 100).
Is the CCC Certificate required at the time of application?+
No — CCC Certificate is NOT required at the time of online application. It must be produced at the Document Verification stage. Candidates have until DV to obtain it. The certificate must be from NIELIT or a DOEACC-authorised centre (80-hour Course on Computer Concepts). Candidates with a Diploma or Degree in Computer Science/IT from a recognised university are typically exempt from submitting a separate CCC certificate.
Can I apply for both Clerk and Steno-Typist posts?+
Yes. Eligible candidates can apply for both Clerk and Steno-Typist posts. The written exam paper is common for both, so appearing once covers both. You indicate your post preference in the application form. If you have stenography skills, applying for both gives you two chances at selection through one written examination.
What is the age limit for Chandigarh Clerk Recruitment 2026?+
Minimum 18 years, Maximum 27 years as on 26 April 2026 (closing date). Relaxation: OBC +3 years (max 30), SC +5 years (max 32), PwBD (General) +10 years (max 37), PwBD (SC) +15 years (max 42). Ex-Servicemen get relaxation equal to military service period. Age is verified only from Matriculation/Secondary Board certificate.
Can OBC candidates from other states apply for this recruitment?+
Yes, OBC candidates from other states can apply but their OBC community must be listed in the Central List of OBCs specifically for UT of Chandigarh. An OBC certificate from a home state based on that state's OBC list does NOT automatically qualify for OBC reservation in Chandigarh Administration. Verify your community's inclusion in the Central OBC List for UT Chandigarh before claiming OBC category. If not included, apply as General/UR.
Is there an interview in Chandigarh Clerk Recruitment 2026?+
No interview whatsoever. Selection is entirely merit-based: (1) Written Exam marks (200 marks) determine the final merit list; (2) Skill Test is qualifying only — no marks; (3) Document Verification is administrative. This makes the written exam performance the sole decisive factor for selection.
What is the posting location after selection?+
Selected candidates are posted in the Common Cadre of Chandigarh Administration — they can be transferred to any department of the UT Chandigarh Administration as per administrative needs. Chandigarh is a Union Territory, so all postings are within the city of Chandigarh and its associated departments. No inter-state transfers.
What documents are needed at Document Verification?+
Original documents required at DV: Bachelor's Degree marksheets & certificate (all years), Matriculation certificate (for DOB proof), CCC Certificate (80-hour course from NIELIT/DOEACC), Category certificate (SC/OBC NCL/EWS — issued by competent authority for UT Chandigarh), Stenography speed certificate (for Steno-Typist post), PwBD certificate (if applicable), ESM Discharge Certificate (if applicable), NOC (if serving in Govt/PSU), Application printout, and 2 recent passport-size photographs.
What is the application fee for Chandigarh Clerk Steno-Typist Recruitment 2026?+
UR / OBC / EWS / Dependents of Ex-Servicemen: ₹1,000. SC / PwBD / Ex-Servicemen: ₹500. Payment via UPI, Internet Banking, Debit Card, or Credit Card — online mode only. Fee payment last date: 29 April 2026. Fee is non-refundable once paid.
