About Horizontal Reservation: Horizontal reservation (क्षैतिज आरक्षण) is independent of vertical category reservation. A candidate selected under horizontal reservation (e.g., as a Woman or Ex-Serviceman) is adjusted within their own category (OC/SC/ST/OBC/EWS) in the final merit list. Vacant posts due to UP Government reservation policy changes may increase or decrease — total vacancy numbers may be revised before the final recruitment closes.
4. Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
Candidates must have passed Intermediate (10+2/Class XII) or an equivalent examination from the Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, Uttar Pradesh, or any equivalent institution recognised by the Government of India or Uttar Pradesh. No minimum percentage or specific stream is required — any stream (Arts, Commerce, Science) qualifies.
Preferential Qualification (Adhimani Aharta)
Under UP Excise Constable Service Rules 1983 (as amended), candidates who have either (a) served in the Territorial Army for at least two years, or (b) hold the ‘B’ Certificate of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) will be given preference in direct recruitment, all else being equal. This is a tiebreaker — it does not create additional vacancies.

PET-2025 Requirement
Only candidates who (a) appeared in PET-2025 (Preliminary Eligibility Test — 2025) AND (b) have received a Score Card from UPSSSC are eligible to apply. Candidates who scored zero or negative (absolute) marks in PET-2025 are NOT eligible. The shortlisting for the Main Exam is based on PET-2025 normalised score — candidates scoring up to the final cutoff at 15× the category-wise vacancy count will be shortlisted.
Payment Modes: Fee can be paid via Credit Card, Debit Card, Internet Banking, UPI, or SBI e-Challan. No other payment mode is accepted. For SBI e-Challan, download the challan from the website and pay at any SBI branch, then update the Transaction ID via “Double Verification Mode” on the UPSSSC applicant portal.
Note for Main Exam: Shortlisted candidates for the Main Exam will pay a separate Main Exam fee (amount to be specified) before downloading their Main Exam admit card — separate from the application fee paid now.

Important — Physical Tests are Qualifying, Not Merit-Based: Both the Physical Measurement Test (PMT) and Physical Efficiency Test are qualifying in nature — they determine whether a candidate is physically suitable for the post, but the marks obtained in these tests are not added to the final merit list. The final merit list and selection are determined solely by the Main Written Examination marks. Candidates who fail the physical tests at any stage are disqualified from the recruitment process.

PET-2025 Screening & Shortlisting for Main Exam — candidates are shortlisted based on their PET-2025 normalised score, up to 15 times the category-wise vacancy count. All candidates whose PET-2025 normalised score falls at or above the final cutoff are included. Candidates with zero or negative scores in PET-2025 are excluded.
Main Written Examination — 100 Marks (Merit-Deciding Stage) — a single 100-question MCQ paper covering General Studies (80 marks), Computer & IT (15 marks), and UP General Information (20 marks). Duration: 2 hours. Negative marking: 25% per wrong answer (¼ mark). This is the only merit-determining stage.
