Selection Process — How ESIC Selects Professor Candidates
1

Application Scrutiny

ESIC accepts applications provisionally and will NOT undertake detailed scrutiny of eligibility at this stage. Candidates are called for interview on the basis of the information furnished in the application. The final verification of eligibility happens at the time of interview — providing false information leads to immediate rejection and possible legal action.

2

Shortlisting (If Number of Applications Is Large)

If the number of eligible applications received is large, ESIC will shortlist candidates for interview based solely on teaching experience beyond the minimum required level (i.e., experience as Associate Professor/Reader above the 4-year/3-year minimum threshold). Only information and certificates submitted with the original application will be considered — no documents submitted after the application will be accepted for shortlisting purposes.

3

Interview by ESIC Selection Board

Shortlisted candidates appear before the ESIC Selection Board at a venue and date decided by ESIC — candidates are informed separately. The interview is out of 100 marks. Minimum qualifying marks: UR/EWS — 50 out of 100 | OBC — 45 out of 100 | SC/ST/PwBD — 40 out of 100. Candidates not meeting the minimum qualifying marks are not selected.

4

Tie-breaking Rules (If Candidates Score Equally)

In case of equal interview marks: (1) the older candidate by age is preferred. If still tied: (2) the candidate with the earlier date of passing the essential PG degree (MD/MS/PhD) is preferred. If still tied: (3) the candidate with the earlier date of completion of internship (MBBS internship) is preferred.

5

Final Selection, Reserve List & Posting

A Select List and a Reserve List (UPSC-like provisions) may be maintained. Selected candidates are liable to be posted anywhere in India where ESIC PGIMSRs and Medical Colleges are located. State preferences given in the application are considered but cannot be claimed as a matter of right. The appointment is subject to character verification and medical fitness as per service rules.

Common Application Mistakes — What Will Get Your Application Rejected
❌ These Errors Will Cause Outright Rejection — No Exceptions
  • Not attaching the DD/Banker’s Cheque: Applications from fee-paying categories without the prescribed ₹500/- DD in the correct name/payable location are summarily rejected
  • DD drawn before 19 May 2026: DDs issued before the notification date are not accepted
  • Submitting multiple applications for the same specialty under different categories: All such applications will be rejected outright
  • Sending via Courier instead of Speed Post: Only Speed Post is accepted — private courier applications are not entertained
  • Application received after 27 July 2026: ESIC does not accept late applications regardless of dispatch date or postal delays
  • Missing research publications: If claiming Option B (3 years + 4 publications), not attaching copies of all indexed publications leads to rejection
  • Requesting addition of experience/documents after submission: Only experience and certificates submitted with the original application are considered — subsequent additions are not accepted
  • Incorrect superscription on envelope: Envelope not marked with the correct post title and specialty may be misrouted or rejected
  • Not indicating 10 state preferences: Candidates must indicate at least 10 state preferences on the application form

Frequently Asked Questions — ESIC Teaching Faculty Recruitment 2026
Q1
Can I apply online for ESIC Professor Recruitment 2026?
+
No. The ESIC Teaching Faculty Recruitment 2026 for 118 Professor posts is entirely offline. There is no online application portal. Candidates must download the prescribed application form from the official notification PDF at esic.gov.in, fill it manually in BLOCK letters, attach all required documents and the Demand Draft (where applicable), and send the complete application by Speed Post to the ESIC Regional Office, New Delhi so that it reaches by 27 July 2026. Applications sent by private courier, hand delivery, or received after the deadline will not be accepted.
Q2
Is there a written examination for ESIC Professor recruitment, or is it only an interview?
+
There is no written examination. Selection for the 118 Professor posts is based entirely on an interview conducted by the ESIC Selection Board. The interview is out of 100 marks. Minimum qualifying marks to be considered for selection: UR/EWS — 50/100 | OBC — 45/100 | SC/ST/PwBD — 40/100. If the number of applications is large, ESIC may shortlist candidates for the interview based on teaching experience beyond the minimum required level — but the final selection is through the interview only, not a written test.
Q3
What is the age limit for ESIC Professor Recruitment 2026?
+
The maximum age limit is 50 years as on 27 July 2026 for UR/EWS candidates. Standard age relaxations apply: OBC — up to 3 years extra | SC/ST — up to 5 years | PwBD — up to 10 years (overall maximum age not to exceed 56 years on the closing date for PwBD) | ESIC/Central Government employees — up to 5 years | Ex-Servicemen — as per Government of India orders. Cumulative relaxation for PwBD belonging to SC/ST/OBC is also available as per DoPT rules.
Q4
Can a candidate apply for more than one specialty?
+
Yes, a candidate may apply for more than one specialty if they possess the required qualifications and experience for each specialty they apply for. However, they must submit a separate application form, separate DD (where applicable), and separate set of enclosures for each specialty in separate envelopes — each correctly superscribed with the specialty name. A single application for multiple specialties will not be entertained. Candidates must also be careful not to submit multiple applications under different categories for the same specialty, as all such applications will be rejected outright.
Q5
What is Non-Practising Allowance (NPA) and who gets it?
+
Non-Practising Allowance (NPA) is an additional allowance paid to medical officers/faculty in Central Government service who hold a recognised medical qualification and are expected to devote their full time to government duties without engaging in private practice. For ESIC Professors, NPA is paid in addition to basic pay and is currently at a rate specified by the Government of India from time to time (typically 20–25% of basic pay, subject to an overall ceiling). It is counted for the purpose of calculating retirement benefits. Both medical and non-medical faculty members with the applicable qualifications and in the relevant positions receive NPA as per their service conditions.
Q6
Is this a permanent government appointment or contractual?
+
This specific recruitment under the notification “Advertisement for Recruitment of Teaching Faculty (Professors) in ESIC PGIMSRs and ESIC Medical Colleges on Direct Recruitment Basis 2026″ is for permanent (regular) appointment — not contractual. The 118 Professor posts are permanent Central Government positions in ESIC. Selected candidates will be regular employees of the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation under the Ministry of Labour & Employment, with all associated service benefits including pension (NPS), gratuity, LTC, and career progression under DACP guidelines. Note that ESIC separately also recruits contractual/walk-in Teaching Faculty at individual medical colleges — those are different from this notification and are contractual in nature.
Q7
What are the research publication requirements — what counts as an “indexed” journal?
+
For Option B (3 years as Associate Professor + 4 publications), research publications must be in recognised indexed journals — typically meaning journals indexed in recognised databases such as PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, or other indices recognised by NMC for the purpose of faculty eligibility. All 4 publications must be as First Author, and at least 2 of the 4 must have been published during the period of tenure as Associate Professor.

Publications in predatory journals (journals not indexed in legitimate recognised databases or listed on predatory journal lists) are not accepted. Book chapters, conference abstracts, or publications as co-author (second, third author etc.) do not count. Candidates should attach the first page (header page) of each publication — clearly showing the journal name, ISSN, indexing details, authors, and their position in the author list.
Q8
What happens if I am selected but not posted at my preferred state?
+
While candidates are required to indicate at least 10 state preferences in the application form, ESIC’s official position is that posting location cannot be claimed as a matter of right. State preferences are considered as far as administratively feasible, but the final posting decision rests with ESIC based on institutional requirements at the time of appointment. Selected candidates who do not wish to join at the allotted location will lose their selection. It is therefore important to only apply if you are genuinely willing to be posted at any of the ESIC institutions across India.
