4. Eligibility Criteria — Educational Qualification & Experience
For Medical Candidates (MD/MS route)
- Basic Degree: A recognised medical qualification included in the First or Second Schedule or Part II of the Third Schedule to the IMC Act, 1956 (MBBS or equivalent)
- Postgraduate Degree: MD/MS or equivalent recognised postgraduate degree in the concerned specialty or an allied discipline, as recognised by MCI/NMC
- Registration: Valid registration with the National Medical Commission (NMC)/State Medical Council
- Experience (Option A): 4 years of teaching experience as Reader/Associate Professor in a recognised medical college (experience as MO/GDMO not counted)
- Experience (Option B): 3 years teaching experience as Associate Professor with at least 4 research publications in indexed journals as First Author, of which at least 2 must be during the Associate Professor tenure
For Non-Medical Candidates (PhD route — Pre-Clinical subjects)
- Master’s Degree in the concerned subject or an allied discipline from a recognised University
- PhD Degree in the respective subject/allied discipline from a recognised University, as per MCI/NMC “Minimum Qualification for Teachers in Medical Institutions” Regulations

Important — Experience Recognition: Teaching experience must be in an NMC/MCI-recognised medical institution. Experience as General Duty Medical Officer (GDMO), in ESI hospitals (clinical work only), or as Tutor/Demonstrator is not counted for this purpose. Research publications must be in recognised indexed journals — publications in predatory journals will not be accepted.

- Download the Official Notification & Application Form — visit esic.gov.in → Recruitments section. Download the official notification titled “Advertisement for Recruitment of Teaching Faculty (Professors) in ESIC PGIMSRs and ESIC Medical Colleges on Direct Recruitment Basis 2026.” The application form is at the end of the notification PDF. - Fill the Application Form in BLOCK LETTERS — using black/blue ink. Provide accurate details: specialty applied for, personal information (name, DOB, category), educational qualifications (MBBS/MD/MS/PhD), NMC/State Medical Council registration number and date, teaching experience in chronological order, research publications list (indexed journal name, volume, year, co-authors), and at least 10 state preferences in order.

7. Selection Process — How ESIC Selects Professor Candidates
- Application Scrutiny — ESIC accepts applications provisionally and will not undertake detailed scrutiny of eligibility at this stage. Candidates are called for interview based on the information furnished in the application. Final verification happens at the time of interview — providing false information leads to immediate rejection and possible legal action.
- Shortlisting (If Number of Applications Is Large) — if the number of eligible applications is large, ESIC will shortlist candidates for interview based solely on teaching experience beyond the minimum required level. Only information and certificates submitted with the original application will be considered — no documents submitted after the application will be accepted for shortlisting purposes.
- Interview by ESIC Selection Board — shortlisted candidates appear before the ESIC Selection Board at a venue and date decided by ESIC. The interview is out of 100 marks. Minimum qualifying marks: UR/EWS — 50/100 | OBC — 45/100 | SC/ST/PwBD — 40/100. Candidates not meeting the minimum qualifying marks are not selected.
- Tie-breaking Rules (If Candidates Score Equally) — (1) the older candidate by age is preferred; (2) if still tied, the candidate with the earlier date of passing the essential PG degree (MD/MS/PhD) is preferred; (3) if still tied, the candidate with the earlier date of completion of internship (MBBS internship) is preferred.
- Final Selection, Reserve List & Posting — a Select List and a Reserve List may be maintained. Selected candidates are liable to be posted anywhere in India where ESIC PGIMSRs and Medical Colleges are located. - Not attaching the DD/Banker’s Cheque — applications from fee-paying categories without the prescribed ₹500 DD in the correct name/payable location are summarily rejected
- DD drawn before 19 May 2026 — DDs issued before the notification date are not accepted
- Submitting multiple applications for the same specialty under different categories — all such applications will be rejected outright
- Sending via Courier instead of Speed Post — only Speed Post is accepted; private courier applications are not entertained
