Frequently Asked Questions
Key clarifications from official Advertisement 017/2026 — tap to expand
Is this a Combined exam? Do I need to apply separately for each post?+
Yes, this is a Combined Preliminary Examination for 5 different cadres. You apply once and appear in a single Preliminary Exam. Based on your prelim marks, you will be shortlisted for the Main Examination. However, you must indicate your preferred posts/cadres at the time of application. The Sahayak Motor Vahan Nirikshak posts have a standalone separate Main Exam, while the other 4 cadres share a Combined Main Exam.
What is the age limit and which date is it calculated on?+
The crucial date for age calculation is 01 October 2026. General/Open category candidates must be aged between 19 to 38 years as on that date. Reserved category (Magas Varg, Anath, Divyang, etc.) candidates get the upper age limit relaxed to 43 years. Ex-servicemen get service period + 3 years added. Divyang / PwD candidates get relaxation to 45 years. The upper age limit is NOT relaxed on any other ground.
Is a typing test / typing qualification required?+
Yes, for Lipik-Tanklekhak and Kar Sahayak posts: Marathi typing at 30 wpm AND English typing at 40 wpm is required — OR the candidate must hold the Government-recognised Commerce Board typing certificate. For Lipik-Tanklekhak (Mantralaya offices), both Marathi and English typing are required. Typing qualification must be held on or before the last date of application. Note: If appointed to an office where English is the working language (e.g., High Court, legal offices), English typing proficiency at 40 wpm is essential; Marathi typing of 30 wpm must also be acquired within 4 years of appointment.
What qualification is needed for Sahayak Motor Vahan Nirikshak (SMVN)?+
Candidates need: (1) SSC (10th pass) from Maharashtra Board or equivalent; AND (2) 3-year Diploma or Degree in Automobile Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from a recognised institution — OR a qualification recognised as equivalent by the State/Central Government — OR 4 Years of Theoretical and Practical Training as an Artificer Apprentice. Additionally, candidates need a valid Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) driving licence and must meet physical fitness standards (height, chest/weight, eyesight). The Main Exam for SMVN is standalone (300 marks) separate from the other posts.
What is the exam fee and is it refundable?+
The fee for the Combined Preliminary Exam is ₹394 for General/Open category candidates and ₹294 for Reserved category (Magas Varg / Anath / Divyang). Ex-servicemen pay only ₹44. For Main Exam separately: ₹544 / ₹344 / ₹44. The fee is Non-Refundable (Na-Paratava) once paid. Bank charges and taxes are extra. You can pay online (Credit/Debit Card, Net Banking) or via SBI bank challan at any State Bank of India branch.
What is the Normalization process mentioned for the CBT exam?+
Since the Combined Preliminary Exam may be conducted in multiple sessions/slots, there may be variation in difficulty levels across sessions. To ensure fairness, Normalization (समानीकरण) is applied — the raw scores of candidates are converted to Normalized scores that account for difficulty differences across sessions. Final merit/shortlisting is based on Normalized scores, not raw scores. MPSC publishes detailed Normalization methodology on its official website. Normalization is binding on all candidates.
When and where will the Main Exam (Mukhya Pariksha) be held?+
The Main Examination (Mukhya Pariksha) is tentatively scheduled for 27 September 2026. This is for all posts under this Combined Examination. Candidates shortlisted from the Prelim will need to separately apply for the Main Exam and pay the Main Exam fee (₹544 General). Exam centres for the Main Exam are allocated based on the candidate’s Correspondence Address mentioned in the application — so candidates are advised to select their correspondence address carefully, preferably near their preferred exam centre city.
Can I apply if I have an Economically Weaker Section (EWS) certificate?+
Yes. Candidates with a valid EWS (Samanya aani Samant / Non-Creamy Layer) certificate are eligible for reservation under the EWS category. EWS candidates must upload their valid EWS certificate at the time of application. The certificate must be valid up to the last date of the Preliminary Exam. EWS candidates get reserved posts as per applicable Maharashtra Government orders.
