06
Selection Process
1

Stage 1 — Computer Based Test (CBT)

A single-stage CBT of 100 objective MCQ questions carrying 100 marks. The exam may be conducted in single or multiple shifts. Negative marking of 1/3rd mark applies for every wrong answer; unattempted questions carry zero penalty. The paper is available in English, Hindi, and 13 regional languages. Exam city and duration are specified on the admit card. No sectional cut-offs apply — only an overall qualifying mark is required.

2

CBT Pattern — Subject-Wise Split & Qualifying Marks

Mathematics: 25 Qs · General Intelligence & Reasoning: 30 Qs · General Science: 25 Qs · General Awareness & Current Affairs: 20 Qs · Total: 100 Qs / 100 Marks

Minimum qualifying marks: UR/EWS — 40%  ·  OBC-NCL / SC / ST — 30%
Candidates below the threshold are not considered for PET shortlisting irrespective of rank.

3

Score Normalisation — Multi-Shift Exam Formula

When CBT spans multiple shifts, RRB applies: Xn = (S2 ÷ S1) × (X − Xav) + Yav — where S2 is the SD of the reference shift (highest average), S1 is the SD of the candidate’s shift, X is the candidate’s raw score, Xav is the average of the candidate’s shift, and Yav is the reference shift average. Final merit is derived from normalised scores, not raw marks.

4

Stage 2 — Physical Efficiency Test (PET) — Qualifying Only

Candidates are shortlisted for PET at 3 times the vacancy count per RRB, per post, per category. PET is purely qualifying — marks are not added to final merit. Ex-Servicemen and PwBD candidates are fully exempted. Both events (running and weight-carrying) must be completed in a single attempt without pausing.

5

Stage 3 — Document Verification (DV)

PET qualifiers are called for DV at a 1:1 ratio based on CBT merit. Candidates must produce all originals and self-attested copies. Government / PSU employees must also carry a valid NOC. SC/ST candidates travelling more than 30 km for DV are entitled to 2nd Class rail/bus fare reimbursement. Tie-breaking: older candidate ranked higher; if age is equal, alphabetical order of name applies.

6

Stage 4 — Medical Examination (IME)

All DV-cleared candidates undergo Initial Medical Examination by Railway Medical Officers. Standards: A2 (Pointsman), B1 (Engineering posts), B2 (Electrical, Mechanical, S&T posts). Vision, hearing, and general physical fitness are assessed. Candidates declared unfit are eliminated. The decision of Railway Medical Officers is final. RRB/RRC only recommends — actual appointment is made by Railway Administration.

How to Apply Online
1

Keep Documents Ready Before Starting

Personal email ID and active mobile number, scanned recent passport-size photograph (white background, taken within 3 weeks), scanned signature in black ink, Class 10th marksheet and certificate, ITI/NAC/CCAA certificate if applicable, caste / EWS / ESM / PwBD certificate as relevant, and Debit/Credit Card or Net Banking details for fee payment.

2

Register at rrbapply.gov.in

Visit rrbapply.gov.in and click “Apply for Railway Group D Recruitment CEN 09/2025”. New users must register with name, email, and mobile. Existing account holders from previous CEN cycles can use their existing credentials. Complete Aadhaar authentication at this stage — it is mandatory and reduces scrutiny delays at later stages.

3

Select One RRB Zone & Post Preference

You may apply to only one RRB zone — this choice is permanent and cannot be changed. Choose carefully based on vacancy count, posting state, and post availability. You may indicate preferences for multiple posts within the selected zone. Applying to more than one RRB leads to rejection of all applications and possible debarment.

4

Fill Form, Upload Photo & Documents

Enter all personal, educational, and contact details accurately. Your name, date of birth, and father’s / mother’s name must match exactly as on your Class X certificate — discrepancies cause rejection at DV. Upload the photograph, signature, and category certificates in the format and file-size limits specified on the portal.

5

Review, Submit & Pay Fee

Preview all fields carefully before final submission. Pay ₹500 (UR/OBC/EWS) or ₹250 (SC/ST/PwBD/Female/Transgender/ESM/Minority/EBC) via Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking, or UPI. Fee payment can be completed up to 11 March 2026 at 23:59 hrs. Download and save the confirmation page — no physical copy needs to be sent to RRB.

6

Modify if Needed (12–21 March 2026)

During the modification window, post preference and Zonal Railway within the opted RRB can be changed for ₹250 per modification. Account creation details (email, mobile) and the selected RRB zone are permanent and cannot be changed under any circumstance.

✅ Tips for Successful Application
  • Apply well before midnight — server congestion spikes in the final hours and RRBs accept no liability for last-minute failures
  • Use a personal email and mobile that are exclusively in your control throughout the entire recruitment process
  • OBC-NCL certificate must be dated on or after 01 April 2025 in the Central Government format
  • Admit cards and all official communications are released only via official RRB websites — beware of fraudulent portals and touts
  • Receiving an admit card does not confirm final eligibility — candidature remains provisional until DV and medical clearance
