Frequently Asked Questions
Key clarifications from the official Notice — tap any question to expand
Can a general public / fresher candidate apply for this exam?+
No. This is a Limited Departmental Competitive Examination (LDCE). Only permanent or regularly appointed temporary Group ‘C’ Central Government employees with Grade Pay ₹1800 and at least 3 years of regular service as on 01.08.2025 are eligible. General public, fresh graduates, and employees of State Governments or PSUs are not eligible.
Is there a negative marking in the CBE?+
Yes. There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer in the Computer Based Examination. Unlike many SSC exams, this LDCE does carry negative marking. There is no negative marking for unattempted questions — only wrong answers are penalised. Candidates should be careful before attempting uncertain questions.
Where will the exam be held? Can I choose my city?+
Delhi-NCR Only. The examination will be conducted only in Delhi-NCR. No request for change of centre will be entertained under any circumstances. If a candidate appears at a centre other than the one assigned by the Commission, their papers will not be evaluated and their candidature will be cancelled. There is also no Travelling Allowance paid by SSC for attending the examination.
Can I directly send my application to SSC?+
No. After submitting the online application, the printed copy must be forwarded by your Head of Department / Head of Office to SSC Northern Region. Applications received directly from candidates — without HoD/HoO forwarding — will not be considered. Only candidates whose application is forwarded by their HoD/HoO will be admitted to the examination. The HoD/HoO must also sign and seal the photograph on the printed application (Annexure-VI).
What is the CSMOP subject? What should I study?+
CSMOP stands for Central Secretariat Manual of Office Procedure. For this exam, candidates are tested on Chapter 5 (Management of Dak Receipts), Chapter 6 (File Management System), and Chapter 10 (Records Management) of the latest edition of CSMOP. Candidates should ensure they are using the most current version of the CSMOP. Questions are described as “simple” in nature.
Is this a permanent government job or a contractual post?+
This is a permanent regular government post. JSA/LDC in the CSCS Cadre of DoPT is a regular Group ‘C’ Central Government position (Pay Level-2), unlike tenure/contractual positions. However, please note that typewriting test requirements apply post-appointment, and failure to pass the typewriting test within the probation period can lead to reversion to the employee’s previous post.
My OTR was done on the old SSC website (ssc.nic.in). Do I need to register again?+
Yes, you must re-register. OTR generated on the old website ssc.nic.in will not be functional on the new website (ssc.gov.in). All candidates must generate a fresh One Time Registration (OTR) on the new website ssc.gov.in before applying for this examination. Once OTR is completed on the new website, it remains valid for all future examinations applied through the new website.
How is the tie resolved if two candidates score equal marks?+
Ties are resolved by applying the following methods one after another until the tie is broken: (1) Marks in Comprehension and General English; (2) Marks in General Knowledge; (3) Date of Birth — older candidate placed higher; (4) Alphabetical order of names.
