Bank of India (BOI) has released Project No. 2026-27/02, Notice dated 1 August 2026, inviting applications for 205 Specialist Officer posts across four grades — from entry-level Officer (Scale I) all the way up to Chief Manager (Scale IV). Online registration runs from 10 September to 25 September 2026, and this drive is almost entirely built around technology, IT security, and digital banking roles.

1. Recruitment Overview

This isn’t a traditional generalist SO drive — nearly every single post in this notification sits inside BOI’s technology and specialist streams, covering roles like Full-Stack Engineering, DevSecOps, Information Security, Data Engineering, and API Governance, alongside a smaller cluster of Law, Fire Safety, Security, and Civil Engineering posts. If you’re a tech professional wondering whether banking has openings for your specific skill set, this notification is worth a genuinely close look.

Grand Total: 205

Full-Stack Engineering has the single largest footprint across all four grades combined (2+12+18+6 = 38 posts) — the widest single specialisation window in this entire notification. Civil Engineer, meanwhile, is the largest individual post at the entry-level Scale I grade, with 10 seats.

Important caveat from the Bank: the above vacancy numbers include backlog posts, and both the total and reserved-category numbers are provisional — subject to change based on the Bank’s actual requirement at the time of final selection.

4. Eligibility Criteria

Nationality: Indian citizen, or a subject of Nepal/Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee settled in India before 1 January 1962, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or specified East African/Vietnam nations with the intention of permanently settling in India (with an eligibility certificate from the Government of India where applicable).

Educational Qualification & Experience: Varies significantly by post — since this notification spans dozens of specialised streams, the exact degree, certification, and years-of-experience requirement is listed post-by-post in Annexure-I of the official notification. Broadly, expect a mix of Engineering/Technology degrees for technical posts, an LLB for Law Officer, and relevant professional certifications (like CISA/CISM/CISSP) for the dedicated IT security posts.

Marks relaxation: Reserved-category candidates (SC/ST/OBC/PwBD) applying against reserved vacancies get a 5% relaxation wherever a minimum of 60% marks is stipulated — meaning 55% becomes the applicable cut-off for them.

CGPA conversion: If your qualifying degree used a CGPA/OGPA system, it must be converted to a percentage as per your university’s own norms before you enter it in the application — and any fraction gets rounded down, so 59.99% is treated as below 60%.

Barred from applying: Candidates who previously held a similar post at Bank of India are not eligible to reapply.

One post per candidate: You can apply for only one post. If you submit multiple applications, only your most recent completed one is retained — and the fee paid on the others is forfeited, not refunded.

Age Limit (as on 1 August 2026) — Ranges by post, from as young as 21–30 years for entry-level Officer posts up to 28–42 years for senior Chief Manager roles. Check the exact range against your target post in the tables above.

Age Relaxation:

CategoryRelaxation
SC/ST5 years
OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)3 years
PwBD10 years
Ex-ServicemenService period + 3 years
Persons affected by 1984 riots5 years

Relaxations for SC/ST/OBC candidates are allowed cumulatively with only one of the remaining categories — not stacked across several at once.

5. Selection Process

Selection depends on how many eligible applicants come through for each post — BOI has kept its options open here rather than committing to one fixed format across the board.

Stage 1 — Scrutiny of Eligibility Documents: Before anything else, your uploaded documents (professional experience proof, mandatory certifications, educational qualifications) are screened. Shortlisting or rejection at this stage is based purely on what you uploaded at registration — no follow-up requests for missing documents are entertained later.

Stage 2 — Online Examination (where conducted):

SectionMarksDuration
English Language25Composite 100 minutes
Professional Knowledge (relevant to post)100(shared with above)

English Language is qualifying only — its marks don’t count toward your final merit. Both papers (except English) are available bilingually in English and Hindi.

Minimum qualifying marks: 35% for General/EWS candidates in both English and Professional Knowledge; SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates applying against reserved vacancies get a 5% relaxation on this threshold.

Negative marking: One-fourth of the marks assigned to a question is deducted for each wrong answer; unattempted questions carry no penalty.

Stage 3 — Personal Interview: Carries 100 marks. Minimum qualifying marks are 50 for General/EWS and 45 for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates against reserved posts. Candidates are typically called in a 1:3 ratio against vacancies, though the Bank can adjust this ratio at its discretion.

Weighted merit (if both stages are conducted): Online Examination and Interview combine in a 60:40 ratio for the final score. You need to be found suitable in both stages independently — clearing just one doesn’t carry you through.

Interview-only path: For some posts, BOI may skip the written exam entirely and select purely through interview, based on your qualification, experience, and overall suitability — this decision is made at the Bank’s discretion and communicated through the official website.

Tie-breaker: If two candidates end up with identical combined marks, the one who scored higher in the online exam ranks ahead; if that’s also equal, the older candidate (by date of birth) gets precedence.

6. Salary & Pay Structure

Scale/GradePay Scale (₹)
Junior Management Grade Scale-I (JMGS-I)48,480 – 85,920

JMGS-I₹1,00,000
MMGS-II₹2,00,000
MMGS-III and above₹3,00,000

Career progression: Selected specialists follow their own stream’s career path initially, and later become eligible to compete for promotion to higher grades alongside General Banking Officers, provided they meet the Bank’s standard promotion-policy criteria.
