Eligibility Criteria
JEE Main 2026 + 70% PCM in 12th + 50% English + Age 17–19.5 years — all conditions as on application date
CriteriaDetails
NationalityIndian citizen only — as per nationality conditions laid down by the Government of India
Marital StatusUnmarried — both male and female candidates must be unmarried at the time of application and throughout the training period. Candidates who marry after selection but before/during training will be discharged and required to refund full training cost including pay, allowances, and all government expenditure.
Age (Date of Birth)Must be born between 02 July 2007 and 01 January 2010 (both dates inclusive) — no relaxation in age limit for any category
Educational QualificationMust have passed the 10+2 (Senior Secondary) examination or equivalent with minimum 70% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) combined — AND — minimum 50% marks in English either in Class X or Class XII (whichever is higher)
JEE (Main) 2026 — MandatoryCandidate must have appeared for JEE (Main) 2026 (B.E./B.Tech paper). Shortlisting for SSB is done based on JEE Main 2026 Common Rank List (CRL). Candidates who did not appear for JEE Main 2026 are not eligible regardless of their academic scores.
GenderBoth male and female candidates are eligible. Maximum 08 vacancies are reserved for women (04 per branch)
Class 12 BoardMust be from a recognised Board (CBSE / ICSE / State Boards) — results must be declared — candidates awaiting results are not eligible
🚫 Critical Eligibility Points — Must Verify Before Applying
  • JEE Main 2026 is compulsory — not just having a good score, but having appeared in it. No JEE Main = no eligibility, regardless of academic marks.
  • 70% in PCM means aggregate of all 3 subjects — not individually. Physics 60 + Chemistry 60 + Maths 90 = 210/300 = 70% — this would qualify. Verify your exact PCM aggregate from your marksheet.
  • English 50% can be from either Class 10 or Class 12 — whichever is higher — this gives flexibility to candidates who scored poorly in English in one class
  • No age relaxation of any kind — the age band is strictly 02 July 2007 to 01 January 2010 for all candidates
  • Submitting multiple applications leads to cancellation of all applications — apply only once with correct details
  • Candidates already declared medically fit for NDA/INA January 2027 need not repeat the medical examination for this entry

Final Merit List & Appointment
INA Jan 2027
1

Stage 1 — JEE (Main) 2026 CRL-based Shortlisting

Applications are screened for eligibility (age, PCM%, English%, JEE appearance). Eligible candidates are shortlisted for SSB interview based on their JEE (Main) 2026 Common Rank List (CRL) score — the higher your JEE rank, the better your chance of SSB shortlisting. Shortlisted candidates are informed via registered email only — a call letter is generated on joinindiannavy.gov.in. The number shortlisted for SSB is several times the number of vacancies, as not all SSB candidates qualify.

2

Stage 2 — SSB Interview (5-Day Procedure)

The SSB (Services Selection Board) interview is a 5-day comprehensive assessment at one of four centres: Bengaluru, Bhopal, Kolkata, or Visakhapatnam. Day 1 is screening (OIR + PPDT) — those who don't clear screening are sent back. Days 2–5 consist of Psychological Tests (TAT, WAT, SRT, SD), Group Testing Officer Tasks (GTO — Outdoor tasks including group discussion, command task, lecturette, individual obstacles), and a Personal Interview by a Senior Officer. The SSB assesses Officer Like Qualities (OLQs) — 15 qualities across 4 dimensions (Effective Intelligence, Social Adaptability, Dynamic, Morale). The SSB is conducted tentatively from September 2026 onwards.

3

Stage 3 — Medical Examination

All SSB-recommended candidates (those who receive a Recommended letter from the SSB board president) must appear for a medical examination at a designated Service Hospital. Medical standards are stringent — they cover vision (far/near/colour), height-weight proportionality, hearing, dental, and overall physical fitness. No relaxation on any medical standard is possible under any circumstances. Candidates declared medically fit for NDA/INA January 2027 need not repeat the medical for this entry — their previous result is accepted.

4

Stage 4 — Police & Character Verification

Provisionally selected candidates (medically fit + SSB recommended) are subject to police verification of antecedents through local police authorities at their home district. This is a standard background check for all defence recruitments. Any adverse police report or character verification discrepancy can lead to withdrawal of candidature even at this late stage.

5

Stage 5 — Final Merit List & Appointment

A final merit list is drawn up based on SSB interview marks, medical fitness, and police verification clearance. Candidates are offered appointment against available vacancies in order of merit. Selected cadets report to Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala, Kerala in January 2027 for commencement of the 4-year B.Tech programme. All training costs are borne by the government from day one.

🎓 SSB Interview — What You Need to Know
  • The SSB tests your personality, leadership, and intellect — not book knowledge. Start preparation at least 6 months before the likely SSB date
  • Study 15 Officer Like Qualities (OLQs) and practice reflecting them naturally in group tasks, discussions, and personal interview
  • Practice WAT (Word Association Test), TAT (Thematic Apperception Test), SRT (Situation Reaction Test), and Self Description — these require genuine self-awareness, not mugged-up answers
  • Physical fitness is tested indirectly through GTO outdoor tasks — candidates must be fit enough for obstacle courses, command tasks, and group physical activities
  • SSB success rate is low — most candidates attend 2–3 SSBs before clearing it. Starting early gives you multiple chances across different defence entries
07
Medical Standards (Key Requirements)
Stringent medical fitness — no relaxation permitted — verify carefully before applying
Medical ParameterMale RequirementFemale Requirement
HeightMinimum 157 cmMinimum 152 cm
WeightProportionate to height and age — as per Navy standardsProportionate to height and age

HearingNormal — no hearing impairmentNormal
DentalShould have sufficient natural teeth — no major dental issuesSame
TattoosPermanent body tattoos are not permitted except small tattoos on inner forearm (religious/traditional) — verify from official notificationSame
Medical standards are extremely stringent for Naval officer entries. Candidates with spectacles or contact lenses may face issues — read the detailed medical standards on joinindiannavy.gov.in before applying. No request for change of medical centre or hospital is entertained under any circumstances.
⚠ Candidates Already Declared Medically Fit for NDA/INA Jan 2027

If you have already been declared medically fit for NDA (Naval Academy) / INA January 2027 course through another entry, you are not required to appear for a fresh medical examination for this 10+2 B.Tech entry. Your existing medical fitness certificate from the designated Service Hospital will be accepted. However, if you were declared temporary/permanent unfit, those results stand — no fresh medical is conducted for appeals.

How to Apply Online
Apply at joinindiannavy.gov.in — 29 May to 18 June 2026 — no fee — one application only

Download the full official notification PDF from joinindiannavy.gov.in and read it carefully. Verify your age (born 02 Jul 2007–01 Jan 2010), PCM% (min 70%), English% (min 50%), marital status (unmarried), and most importantly — confirm you have appeared in JEE (Main) 2026. If any one condition is not met, you are not eligible — do not apply.

2

Register on joinindiannavy.gov.in

Visit www.joinindiannavy.gov.in → Click "Apply Online" for "10+2 B.Tech Cadet Entry Scheme — January 2027". New users must register first with a valid email ID and mobile number. Both must be clear — blurry uploads cause rejection. Follow the exact file size and dimension requirements displayed on the application form.

Frequently Asked Questions
Complete Q&A — Indian Navy 10+2 B.Tech Cadet Entry Scheme January 2027
What is the Indian Navy 10+2 B.Tech Cadet Entry Scheme January 2027?+
It is a Permanent Commission officer entry scheme for unmarried male and female candidates who have passed Class 12 (10+2) with PCM. Selected cadets undergo a 4-year B.Tech programme at Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala, Kerala — fully funded by the Indian Navy. The B.Tech degree is awarded by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). On successful graduation, cadets are commissioned as Sub Lieutenants with Permanent Commission in the Technical Branch of the Indian Navy.
Is JEE Main 2026 score compulsory for this entry?+
Yes — appearing in JEE (Main) 2026 is an absolute requirement. Shortlisting for SSB is based on the JEE Main 2026 Common Rank List (CRL). Candidates who did not appear for JEE Main 2026 are simply not eligible — no alternative test score or academic substitute is accepted. A higher JEE rank significantly improves your chances of being shortlisted for SSB since the Navy calls candidates in order of JEE rank. Note: you only need to have appeared in JEE Main 2026 — the cutoff rank for shortlisting is determined by the Navy based on the number of applicants.
What is the minimum percentage required in Class 12 for this Navy entry?+
You need a minimum of 70% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) combined in Class 12. Additionally, you need a minimum of 50% marks in English — this can be from either Class 10 or Class 12, whichever gives you the higher score. For example, if you scored 55% in English in Class 10 and 45% in Class 12, your Class 10 English score of 55% satisfies the 50% requirement. Calculate your exact PCM aggregate before applying.
Can female candidates apply for Indian Navy 10+2 B.Tech Entry 2027?+
Yes — female candidates are eligible for this scheme. However, the number of seats for women is limited to a maximum of 04 per branch (Mechanical and E&C), giving a total maximum of 08 seats for women across both branches. Female candidates must meet the same educational, age, JEE Main, and medical eligibility criteria as male candidates. The SSB process is also the same for all candidates.
Is there an application fee for Indian Navy 10+2 B.Tech Entry 2027?+
No — there is absolutely no application fee for any category of candidates for the Indian Navy 10+2 B.Tech Cadet Entry Scheme. The application process at joinindiannavy.gov.in is completely free. Do not pay any amount to any person or website claiming to charge a fee for this entry — it is a fraud. The Indian Navy does not outsource its recruitment to any agent.
What is the salary after commission as a Naval Officer under this scheme?+
After completing the 4-year B.Tech at INA Ezhimala and being commissioned as a Sub Lieutenant, the officer receives a basic pay of ₹56,100/month at Pay Matrix Level 10 (7th CPC). Over and above basic pay, a Sub Lieutenant receives Military Service Pay (₹15,500/month), Dearness Allowance, free accommodation (or HRA), free medical, Leave Travel Concession, and various operational allowances. The approximate gross monthly salary at Sub Lieutenant level is ₹1,10,000–₹1,25,000 depending on posting and allowances.
What happens to 07 of the 30 Mechanical Engineering cadets?+
Of the 30 seats in Mechanical Engineering, 07 cadets will be re-allotted to B.Tech in Naval Architecture & Shipbuilding at National Centre for Naval Construction & Design (NCW), Kochi — based on merit during training at INA and service requirements. This re-allotment happens during training — candidates cannot choose Naval Architecture at the time of application. The final branch assignment is decided by the Indian Navy based on academic performance at INA and organisational requirements.
What is the SSB interview and how can I prepare for it?+
The SSB (Services Selection Board) is a 5-day comprehensive assessment designed to evaluate your Officer Like Qualities (OLQs). Day 1 involves screening (OIR test + Group Picture Discussion) — non-screened candidates return home. Days 2–4 include Psychological Tests (TAT/WAT/SRT/SD), Group Testing Officer (GTO) tasks — outdoor and indoor group activities, individual obstacles, lecturette, command task — and a Personal Interview. For preparation: read books on SSB preparation, practice WAT and TAT, maintain physical fitness, read newspapers daily for current affairs and awareness, and develop genuine leadership qualities through real-life group experiences. SSBs for this batch are expected to be held from September 2026 at Bengaluru, Bhopal, Kolkata, or Visakhapatnam.
What is the last date to apply for Indian Navy 10+2 B.Tech Jan 2027?+
The last date to submit the online application is 18 June 2026. The application window opened on 29 May 2026. Apply at joinindiannavy.gov.in. Apply well before the closing date — server congestion on the last day often causes technical issues, and the Indian Navy does not entertain requests for late submission under any circumstances. No fee is required.
