4

Merit List Preparation & Document Verification Call

IOCL prepares a merit list in descending order of aggregate percentage of marks in the qualifying examination. No written test is conducted. Tie-breaking: Date of Birth (older candidate ranked higher) → if same DOB, higher Class X percentage wins. Candidates shortlisted per merit list and number of seats are called for Document Verification — carry originals + self-attested copies of all educational certificates, category certificate, NAPS/NATS registration print, Affidavit (Annexure-A), and one original photo ID (Aadhaar/PAN/Voter ID/DL/Passport).

5

Pre-Engagement Medical Fitness & Offer of Engagement

Candidates clearing Document Verification must pass a Pre-Engagement Medical Examination as per Apprentices Act standards and IOCL guidelines (available at iocl.com). Only medically fit candidates are issued an Offer of Engagement. Petroleum refining is a hazardous industry — medical standards are stringent. Candidates with known ailments/abnormalities must declare them during online application. Candidates declared unfit in a previous IOCL/PSU medical must declare this too. Upon acceptance, the apprenticeship agreement is registered online with BOAT/NAPS.

Frequently Asked Questions
IOCL Apprentice Recruitment 2026 — 4 Refinery Units — verified from official PDFs
Can I apply to more than one IOCL refinery unit at the same time?+
Yes — you can apply to multiple refinery units separately (Bongaigaon, Gujarat, Mathura, Paradip) as these are separate notifications with separate engagements. However, within each unit, you can apply for only one trade/discipline code. Applying for more than one code in the same unit results in summary rejection of all applications for that unit. You must also register separately on NAPS/NATS for each unit application where applicable.
Is there a written test for IOCL Apprentice selection?+
No written test. Selection is purely merit-based on the aggregate percentage of marks obtained in the prescribed qualifying examination (all years/semesters combined). The merit list is prepared in descending order of marks. Tie-breaking rule: candidate with earlier date of birth (older) ranked higher; if same DOB, higher Class X percentage wins. Only candidates ranked within the number of available seats are called for Document Verification, followed by Pre-Engagement Medical Examination.
Can BE/B.Tech or MBA holders apply for IOCL Apprenticeship 2026?+
No. Candidates possessing higher professional qualifications such as BE/B.Tech, MBA, CA, LLB, MCA or any equivalent qualification are not eligible — even if they also hold the required basic qualification (B.Sc./Diploma/B.Com). This rule applies even if the higher qualification was completed on or before the joining date. A declaration confirming non-possession of such qualifications is obtained from all selected candidates at the time of engagement.
What is the stipend during IOCL apprenticeship training?+
The stipend is as prescribed under the Apprentices Act 1961/1973, Apprentices Rules 1992 (as amended), and IOCL’s own guidelines. Under the Act, stipend rates vary by educational qualification level — typically Graduate Apprentices and Technician Apprentices receive higher stipend than Trade Apprentices. The exact stipend rates applicable are those prescribed by the Government under the Act and are subject to revision. No HRA or Company accommodation is provided to apprentices — they must make their own living arrangements. All apprentices are covered under Accident Insurance.
Will IOCL offer a job after the apprenticeship is completed?+
No — IOCL has explicitly stated it has NO obligation to offer employment upon completion of apprenticeship. Apprentices also cannot claim employment as a right on grounds of completion of apprenticeship training. The engagement is purely for skill training under the Apprentices Act. However, apprenticeship experience at IOCL is highly valued in the industry and PSU sector, and may strengthen a candidate’s profile for future job opportunities.
What is the two-step application process and are both steps mandatory?+
Yes — both steps are mandatory. Step I: Register and apply on the NAPS portal (apprenticeshipindia.gov.in) for Trade Apprentice codes (101, 102, 103, 108, 109, 110, 111) or NATS portal (nats.education.gov.in) for Technician Apprentice codes (104, 105, 106, 107). Step II: Fill the Microsoft Form on iocl.com (linked under the respective refinery unit in ‘What’s New’). Completing only one step does not constitute a valid application. Ensure your NAPS/NATS profile is 100% complete and accurate before applying — errors in profile must be corrected by contacting NAPS/NATS office before applying.
What happens if I have done an apprenticeship earlier? Can I apply again?+
Previous apprenticeship in a different trade/discipline is eligible, subject to conditions: (a) Minimum 1-year gap from completion date as on 30.06.2026; (b) If previous contract was terminated by employer’s fault — no gap required; (c) If terminated by candidate for health/financial hardship/relocation/language barrier — minimum 3-month gap required (no waiting period for women). Candidates applying for apprenticeship for the second time must submit the Annexure-A Affidavit at DV. First-time applicants are always given preference. Previous apprenticeship in the same trade/discipline — NOT eligible.
Which codes are available for PwBD candidates at IOCL refineries?+
PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disability — minimum 40% disability as per Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016) candidates can apply only against identified seats in Codes 102, 105, 106, 107, 108, 109, 110, and 111. PwBD candidates cannot apply for Codes 101, 103, and 104 (plant operations/chemical plant/boiler — hazardous environments) as deployment in these areas may put PwBD candidates at risk. Age relaxation for PwBD: +10 years (General), +13 years (OBC), +15 years (SC/ST). Qualification marks relaxed by 5% for PwBD reserved seats. PwBD certificate must be in prescribed format under RoPD Act 2016 / Rule 18.
