IOCL prepares a merit list in descending order of aggregate percentage of marks in the qualifying examination. No written test is conducted. Tie-breaking: Date of Birth (older candidate ranked higher) → if same DOB, higher Class X percentage wins. Candidates shortlisted per merit list and number of seats are called for Document Verification — carry originals + self-attested copies of all educational certificates, category certificate, NAPS/NATS registration print, Affidavit (Annexure-A), and one original photo ID (Aadhaar/PAN/Voter ID/DL/Passport).

Only medically fit candidates are issued an Offer of Engagement. Petroleum refining is a hazardous industry — medical standards are stringent.
