7. FAQs
#
Question
Answer
1
Can I apply to more than one IOCL refinery unit at the same time?
Yes — you can apply to multiple units (Bongaigaon, Gujarat, Mathura, Paradip) separately, as these are separate notifications. However, within each unit, only one trade/discipline code is allowed. Multiple codes per unit = summary rejection of all applications for that unit.
2
Is there a written test for IOCL Apprentice selection?
No written test. Selection is purely merit-based on aggregate % marks in the qualifying exam. Tie-break: older DOB ranked higher → if same DOB, higher Class X % wins.
3
Can BE/B.Tech or MBA holders apply?
No. Candidates with BE/B.Tech, MBA, CA, LLB, MCA or equivalent are not eligible — even if they also hold the required basic qualification.
4
What is the stipend during IOCL apprenticeship training?
As prescribed under the Apprentices Act 1961/1973, Apprentices Rules 1992, and IOCL’s own guidelines. No HRA or company accommodation is provided. Accident insurance is covered.
5
Will IOCL offer a job after the apprenticeship is completed?
No — IOCL has no obligation to offer employment upon completion, and apprentices cannot claim employment as a right.
6
What is the two-step application process, and are both steps mandatory?
Yes, both are mandatory: Step I — NAPS/NATS portal registration and application; Step II — Microsoft Form on iocl.com. Completing only one step is not a valid application.
7
What happens if I’ve done an apprenticeship earlier? Can I apply again?
Previous apprenticeship in a different trade is eligible, subject to gap conditions (minimum 1-year gap generally, with exceptions for employer-fault termination or health/financial hardship). Same-trade apprenticeship is not eligible. First-time applicants are given preference.
8
Which codes are available for PwBD candidates?
Only Codes 102, 105, 106, 107, 108, 109, 110, and 111. PwBD candidates cannot apply for Codes 101, 103, or 104 (hazardous plant/chemical/boiler areas).
