The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released its notice for the Sub-Inspector in Delhi Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) Examination, 2026. This drive fills 1,871 posts across Delhi Police and five CAPFs — CRPF, BSF, ITBP, CISF, and SSB. Online applications open on 10 September 2026 and close on 30 September 2026.
1. Recruitment Overview
This is SSC’s flagship uniformed-services exam, held every year. It covers three distinct post types. Sub-Inspector (GD) posts sit in the five CAPFs. Sub-Inspector (Executive) posts belong to Delhi Police, open to both men and women. And Sub-Inspector (Fire) posts sit specifically inside CISF, with a separate technical qualification track.

4. Eligibility Criteria
Nationality: You must be an Indian citizen, or a subject of Nepal, or a subject of Bhutan.
Educational Qualification
| Post | Qualification |

Candidates still awaiting their final degree result can also apply. But you must have the qualification in hand by the application closing date.
Age Limit (as on 1 August 2026):
| Post Group | Age Range |

A driving license rule that matters: Male candidates applying for Delhi Police must hold a valid LMV driving license, for both motorcycle and car. Without it, you’re only eligible for CAPF posts, not Delhi Police.
5. Selection Process
This exam runs through four mandatory stages. Every stage matters. Missing any one of them ends your candidature.
Paper-I (Screening)
| Section | Questions | Marks | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| General Intelligence and Reasoning | 25 | 25 | Shared 1-hour window |
| General Knowledge and General Awareness | 25 | 25 | Shared 1-hour window |
| Quantitative Aptitude | 25 | 25 | Shared 1-hour window |
| English Comprehension | 25 | 25 | Shared 1-hour window |
Physical Standard Test (PST) & Physical Endurance Test (PET)
Height and chest requirements vary by category and region. General male candidates need 170 cm height, with 80–85 cm chest. Hill-area and specific-region candidates get relaxed standards. So do Scheduled Tribe candidates. Female candidates face a height requirement only — there’s no minimum chest measurement for them.
PET benchmarks for male candidates: 100m race in 16 seconds, 1.6 km race in 6.5 minutes, long jump of 3.65m, high jump of 1.2m, and shot put (16 lbs) of 4.5m.
PET benchmarks for female candidates: 100m race in 18 seconds, 800m race in 4 minutes, long jump of 2.7m, and high jump of 0.9m.
PST and PET don’t carry marks. They’re purely qualifying. Ex-Servicemen skip PET entirely, though they still need to clear PST.
Paper-II (Merit-Deciding Stage)
| Section | Questions | Marks | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| General Intelligence and Reasoning | 20 | 40 | Part of 1-hour |
| General Knowledge and General Awareness | 20 | 40 | Part of 1-hour |
| Quantitative Aptitude | 20 | 40 | Part of 1-hour |
| English Comprehension | 100 | 200 | Separate 1-hour |
Minimum qualifying marks (both papers): 30% for UR, 25% for OBC/EWS, and 20% for all other categories.
Negative marking: Paper-I deducts 0.25 marks per wrong answer. Paper-II deducts 0.50 marks per wrong answer. That’s double the Paper-I penalty. Think carefully before guessing in Paper-II.
NCC bonus marks: NCC ‘C’ certificate holders get a 5% bonus. ‘B’ certificate holders get 3%. ‘A’ certificate holders get 2%. This bonus applies in both Paper-I and Paper-II.
Detailed Medical Examination (DME)
Every candidate who clears Paper-II gets medically examined. Eyesight standards are strict. Minimum near vision must be N6 in your better eye and N9 in your worse eye. Minimum distant vision must be 6/6 and 6/9. No corrective glasses or surgery allowed to meet this standard. Candidates also can’t have knock knees, flat feet, varicose veins, or squint.
A notable rule on tattoos: Tattoos are allowed only in specific conditions. Religious symbols or your name, following Indian Army convention, are permitted. They must sit on your left forearm only, or the back of your hands. Size must stay under one-quarter of that body part.
Seven obstacle events after selection: Finally selected candidates must pass seven physical obstacle events during training. These include the vertical board, Tarzan swing, monkey crawl, and vertical rope. Failing these can mean you don’t get retained in the force.
6. Salary & Pay Structure
All posts in this notice sit at Level-6 of the 7th Central Pay Commission’s Pay Matrix. That’s a monthly pay range of ₹35,400 to ₹1,12,400. Beyond basic pay, selected candidates also receive standard central government allowances.
Selected candidates serve a 2-year probation period. Every post except SI in Delhi Police carries All India Service Liability. You may be posted anywhere in the country.
7. Application Fee
| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| General/OBC (Male) | ₹100 |
| Women (all categories) | Nil |
| SC/ST/Ex-Servicemen | Nil |
You can pay only through online modes — BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, and RuPay debit cards. Once paid, the fee is non-refundable.

8. How to Apply
- Visit the official website: ssc.gov.in
- Complete your One-Time Registration (OTR) first. Any old OTR from the previous SSC website won’t work here.
- Log in and start filling the Sub-Inspector Examination 2026 form.
- Choose Aadhaar-Based Authentication where possible. It skips several photo and ID checks later.
- Take your photograph live, directly through the portal. You can’t upload an existing photo.
- Upload your signature in JPEG format, sized between 10 and 20 KB.
- Pick up to three exam centres, all within the same SSC region, ranked by preference.
- Pay your application fee online, if it applies to you.
- Use the Preview option before final submission. Check every field carefully.
- Submit well before the deadline. Keep a saved copy for your own records.
Post preference comes later, and it’s final: Before the final result, you’ll fill a separate Online Option Form. This decides your preference order among Delhi Police, CRPF, BSF, ITBP, CISF, SSB, and SI (Fire) in CISF. Once submitted, this choice is irreversible. Choose carefully, since your final posting depends entirely on your rank and this preference order.
