Frequently Asked Questions
IOCL Guwahati Apprentice Recruitment 2026 — all key doubts answered
I have a B.Sc. (Physics, Maths, Chemistry) — which codes can I apply for?+
Candidates with a B.Sc. (Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry/Industrial Chemistry) degree can apply for only ONE trade/discipline from among Code 101 (Trade Apprentice — Attendant Operator, Chemical Plant), Code 103 (Trade Apprentice — Boiler), or Code 108 (Trade Apprentice — Secretarial Assistant). You must choose only one. Applying for more than one trade/discipline will result in summary rejection of all your applications — there is no review or appeal against this.
Which codes use NAPS portal and which use NATS portal?+
NAPS portal (apprenticeshipindia.gov.in) is for Codes 101, 102, 103, 108, 109, 110, and 111 (Trade Apprentice categories). NATS portal (nats.education.gov.in) is for Codes 104, 105, 106, and 107 (Technician Apprentice — Diploma disciplines). After applying on the respective portal (STEP I), ALL candidates — regardless of which portal they used — must ALSO fill the Microsoft Form on iocl.com (STEP II). Both steps are mandatory. The Guwahati Refinery Establishment ID on NAPS is E08191800001 and on NATS is EASKMC000002.
I completed an apprenticeship before in a different trade — am I eligible?+
Yes, you may be eligible — provided: (a) the previous apprenticeship was in a different trade/discipline from what you are applying for now; and (b) there is a minimum gap of 1 year (as on 30-06-2026) between the completion of the previous apprenticeship and the start of the new one. Special exceptions apply: if previous contract was terminated due to employer failure — no gap required; if terminated due to your own health/financial hardship/relocation — minimum 3-month gap required (no waiting period for women). However, preference is given to first-time applicants. Candidates whose previous apprenticeship was terminated due to their own failure to follow the contract terms are NOT eligible.
My marks are in CGPA — how do I calculate and what proof is needed?+
IOCL requires the equivalent percentage in aggregate to be indicated in the Microsoft Form as per the conversion norms adopted by your Board/University/Institute. You cannot self-calculate the percentage conversion — you must obtain an official conversion certificate from your University/Institute certifying what your CGPA/OGPA/Letter Grade converts to in percentage. This certificate must be produced in original at the time of Document Verification — without it, your candidature will not be considered. Contact your university’s exam department/registrar office to obtain this certificate well in advance of the application deadline.
I have a BE/B.Tech degree — can I apply for Diploma-based codes (104–107)?+
No. Candidates possessing higher professional qualifications such as B.E. / B.Tech, MBA, CA, LLB, MCA or any equivalent qualification are NOT eligible for engagement as apprentices. This applies even if you also hold a Diploma in the relevant discipline. Additionally, candidates pursuing such a higher qualification who will complete it on or before the date of joining are also not eligible. A declaration confirming this will be obtained from selected candidates at the time of engagement.
Is there a written test for IOCL Guwahati Apprentice 2026?+
No written test whatsoever. As explicitly stated in the official notification: “There shall be No Written Test.” Selection is entirely based on the percentage of marks (aggregate of all subjects of all years/semesters) obtained in the prescribed qualifying qualification, in descending order. The merit list is prepared purely on marks percentage. In case of a tie, seniority by age (older DOB) is applied first; if DOB is also equal, higher 10th marks determine the rank. First-time apprenticeship applicants are given preference over those applying for a second apprenticeship.
What happens if I complete the IOCL apprenticeship — will I get a job at IOCL?+
No employment guarantee exists. The official notification explicitly states: “Upon completion of the apprenticeship period, the Corporation shall have NO obligation to offer employment to such apprentices NOR can an Apprentice claim right for employment on the grounds of completion of Apprenticeship.” The IOCL Guwahati Refinery apprenticeship is purely a skill-building training programme under the Apprentices Act, 1961/1973. Upon successful completion, the respective Board (BOAT/NATS authority) issues an Apprenticeship Completion Certificate — a nationally recognised credential that improves future employability but creates no obligation on IOCL.
I passed my Diploma/B.Sc. 6 years ago — am I eligible?+
No. The IOCL notification specifies that candidates who have completed five years after acquiring the prescribed qualification as on 30-06-2026 are not eligible for engagement as apprentices. So if you passed your qualifying exam before 30 June 2021 (i.e., more than 5 years before the reckoning date of 30-06-2026), you are disqualified. Additionally, candidates who have 1 year or more of job experience after acquiring the qualifying qualification are also ineligible. Both conditions apply independently.
