SUPT(JOT) Training Pathway — Before Regular T0 Grade Appointment
| Phase | Duration | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Phase 1 — SUPT | 12 Months | Skilled Upgradation Practical Trainee — Stipend: ₹12,000/month |

SUPT(JOT) vs Direct Grade III — What’s the Difference?
NALCO recruits via two routes for the same trade: SUPT(JOT) posts are for fresh ITI holders with no experience required — they undergo 12 months SUPT + 18 months JOT training (total 30 months) with stipend, then get absorbed into regular T0 Grade. Operator/Technician Gr. III posts require ITI + Apprenticeship Certificate and are directly placed in T0 Grade without going through the training route. Both routes lead to the same T0 Grade pay scale. SUPT(JOT) selection is based only on CBT; Gr. III posts use CBT + Trade Test (60:40 weightage).

10. Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. What is NALCO and why is this a valuable opportunity?
National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) is a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Mines, Government of India, and one of the largest integrated Alumina-Aluminium complexes in Asia. Its Mines & Refinery Complex at Damanjodi, Koraput, Odisha is one of India’s most modern bauxite mining and alumina refining facilities. Working at NALCO as a Non-Executive employee offers stable PSU employment with structured pay scales (3% annual increment), comprehensive township facilities (housing, hospital, schools, sports), PF, gratuity, and medical benefits — all within a well-maintained industrial township in Odisha.
Q2. What is the difference between SUPT(JOT) posts and Operator/Technician Gr. III posts?
Both lead to the same T0 Grade pay scale but through different routes. SUPT(JOT) posts are for fresh ITI holders with no experience required — selected candidates undergo 12 months as Skilled Upgradation Practical Trainee (SUPT) with ₹12,000/month stipend, followed by 18 months as Junior Operative Trainee (JOT) with ₹15,000–₹15,500/month stipend, after which they are absorbed into regular T0 Grade pay. Selection for SUPT(JOT) is based only on CBT marks — no Trade Test. Operator/Technician Gr. III posts require an Apprenticeship Certificate in addition to ITI — candidates are directly placed in T0 Grade without any training phase. Selection for Gr. III posts uses CBT + Trade Test with 60:40 combined weightage.
Q3. Is an Apprenticeship Certificate mandatory for all posts?
No — it depends on the post. Apprenticeship Certificate (NCVT) is mandatory only for Gr. III posts — Operator Gr. III (Post 6), Technician (Fitter) Gr. III (Post 8), Technician (Electrical) Gr. III (Post 10), and Technician (Instrumentation) Gr. III (Post 13). SUPT(JOT) posts do not require an Apprenticeship Certificate — ITI alone (NCVT/NCVET) is sufficient. For Operator (HEMM) Gr. III (Post 1), 1-year apprenticeship + 2 years post-apprenticeship experience is additionally required. Mining Mate (Post 2) requires a Mining Mate Certificate of Competency instead of an apprenticeship.
Q4. What is the age limit for NALCO Non-Executive Recruitment 2026?
Age limits vary by post and are calculated as on 10 June 2026: Most SUPT(JOT) and Gr. III posts — 18 to 27 years (General); Mining Mate Gr. III — 18 to 30 years; Jr. Foreman posts — 18 to 35 years. Age relaxation: OBC-NCL +3 years, SC/ST +5 years, PwBD (General) +10 years, PwBD (OBC) +13 years, PwBD (SC/ST) +15 years, Ex-Servicemen as per GoI rules. Always verify the exact age limit for your specific post from the official notification.
Q5. What is the CBT exam pattern for NALCO Non-Executive 2026?
The CBT (Computer Based Test) consists of 100 multiple-choice questions for 100 marks, to be completed in 120 minutes (2 hours). The paper has two sections: 60% Technical Domain — trade-specific questions in Electrical, Fitter, Operator, Instrumentation, Chemistry/Lab, Mining domains as applicable to the post applied for; and 40% General Aptitude/GK/English — covering Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, General Knowledge, and English comprehension. For SUPT(JOT) posts, final merit is based solely on CBT marks. For Operator/Technician Gr. III and Foreman posts, CBT (60%) + Trade Test (40%) combine to form the final merit score.
Q6. What is the application fee for NALCO Recruitment 2026?
The application fee is ₹100 for General / OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) / EWS candidates. SC / ST / PwBD / Ex-Servicemen candidates are completely exempted from paying any fee. The fee must be paid online through the NALCO recruitment portal — Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking, or UPI are accepted. The fee is non-refundable under all circumstances including application rejection, withdrawal of candidature, or non-appearance in the exam.
Q7. Can a candidate apply for multiple posts in NALCO Non-Executive 2026?
No — strictly one post per candidate. NALCO’s notification explicitly states that candidates can apply for only one post across all 13 post types. If a candidate submits applications for more than one post, all applications will be summarily rejected. Choose your post carefully before applying — consider your ITI trade, whether you have an Apprenticeship Certificate (required for Gr. III posts), your age vis-à-vis the post-specific age limit, and whether you prefer the SUPT(JOT) training route or direct Gr. III induction.
Q8. Is state-level ITI (non-NCVT/non-NCVET) accepted for NALCO 2026?
No. NALCO’s notification is very specific — ITI must be from NCVT (National Council for Vocational Training) or NCVET (National Council for Vocational Education and Training) certified institutions in the prescribed trade. State-board ITI certificates, private ITI certificates without NCVT/NCVET recognition, or partial qualifications are not accepted. No equivalent or alternate qualification outside the prescribed framework is valid. Candidates must verify that their ITI certificate bears NCVT or NCVET endorsement before applying.
Q9. What are the horizontal reservations for PwBD and Ex-Servicemen in NALCO 2026?
NALCO has provided horizontal reservation of 20 posts for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) — this includes 10 backlog posts — as per Government of India guidelines. Additionally, 38 posts are horizontally reserved for Ex-Servicemen (ESM) as per GoI guidelines. Horizontal reservation means these posts are filled from within the regular vertical category quotas (UR/SC/ST/OBC/EWS) — PwBD and ESM candidates are selected within their respective vertical categories. Specific PwBD sub-categories eligible for each post (e.g., Low Vision, Hearing Impaired, Locomotor Disability) are listed in the official notification annexure.
Q10. What happens during the Pre-Employment Medical Examination (PEME)?
Candidates who qualify the CBT, Trade Test (where applicable), and Document Verification are called for Pre-Employment Medical Examination (PEME) at NALCO’s hospital or a designated government medical facility at the Damanjodi complex. The medical examination checks general health, vision, hearing, physical fitness, and absence of conditions that would make the candidate unfit for working in an industrial mining or refinery environment. The standards are higher than routine medical exams due to the industrial nature of the work at the M&R Complex. Candidates declared medically unfit during PEME are not offered appointment, and the next candidate in merit is considered.
