🚫 Critical Eligibility Rule — Higher Qualification Bar
  • This rule is one of the most important — and most frequently overlooked — conditions in POWERGRID Non-Executive recruitment
  • B.Tech/BE/M.Tech/ME holders cannot apply for DTE/DTC/DTS posts even if they also hold a Diploma
  • Post Graduate Degree/Diploma holders cannot apply for JOT-HR posts
  • CA/CMA/PG Degree/Diploma holders cannot apply for JOT-F&A posts
  • Diploma/B.E./B.Tech holders cannot apply for JTT-Survey posts
  • This restriction applies at BOTH time of application AND time of joining — possessing a higher qualification at any point leads to disqualification

Stage 1 — Computer Based Test (CBT)

The sole merit-determining stage — carries 100% weightage in final empanelment. 170 objective MCQ questions for 170 marks in 2 hours. Part-I (Technical/Professional Knowledge — 120 Q) covers subject-specific topics for the post applied for. Part-II (Aptitude — 50 Q) covers reasoning, quantitative, and general aptitude. Negative marking of ¼ mark per wrong/multiple answer — don't guess randomly. PwBD candidates get compensatory time as per GoI norms.

2

Stage 2 — Computer Skill Test (CST) [JOT-HR & JOT-F&A only] / Trade Test [JTT-Survey only]

For JOT-HR and JOT-F&A: Computer Skill Test is qualifying in nature. Qualifying marks: 50% for UR/EWS and 40% for reserved category. For JTT-Survey: Trade Test (practical skills assessment) is qualifying. Qualifying marks: 40% for UR/EWS and 30% for reserved category. CST/Trade Test carries NO weightage in final merit — only qualifying nature. Failure in CST/Trade Test despite passing CBT = not empanelled.

3

Stage 3 — Pre-Employment Medical Examination

Empanelled candidates undergo a pre-employment medical examination as per POWERGRID's medical standards. Appointment is provisional until medical fitness is confirmed. Candidates found medically unfit cannot be appointed. Final empanelment is done based on CBT merit (category-wise) with tie-breaking by date of birth (eldest placed higher in merit).

4

Stage 4 — Final Empanelment & Training Commencement

Separate merit lists are prepared post-wise for each region. Final empanelment is based on CBT marks (100% weightage), subject to qualifying CST/Trade Test and medical fitness. Selected candidates join POWERGRID/CTUIL for a 1-year training period at the designated region. Training is full-time. After successful completion, candidates are regularised into the post grade.

⚡ CBT Preparation Strategy — Part-I (120 marks) is the Decisive Section
  • DTE (Electrical): Electrical circuit analysis, machines, power systems, protection, drives, switchgear, and energy meters. Revise complete 3-year Electrical Diploma syllabus — POWERGRID focus areas: power transmission, substation equipment, HV/EHV systems, HVDC basics
  • DTC (Civil): Structural analysis, construction materials, soil mechanics, surveying, fluid mechanics, highways, estimation & costing — full civil diploma curriculum
  • JOT-F&A: Inter CA/CMA syllabus — financial accounting, cost accounting, taxation basics, audit fundamentals — revisit exam materials from CA/CMA Institute
  • JOT-HR: BBA-level HR topics — recruitment & selection, labour laws, industrial relations, training & development, performance management, personnel administration
  • Negative marking discipline (–¼): Avoid guessing unless you can eliminate at least 2 options. Leave questions where you have no idea — skip and return rather than guess randomly
  • Part-II Aptitude (50 marks): Number series, coding-decoding, analogies, data interpretation, percentages, averages, time & work — standard aptitude preparation across all posts is identical
  • Previous POWERGRID Non-Executive papers: Use previous POWERGRID CC/10/2024 and CC/09/2024 pattern papers — same structure applies for 2026

Apply online 20 April to 11 May 2026 at powergrid.in.
Can B.Tech/BE graduates apply for POWERGRID Diploma Trainee 2026?+
No. This is one of the most critical eligibility conditions. Candidates who hold B.Tech/BE/M.Tech/ME — with or without a Diploma — are completely ineligible for Diploma Trainee posts. This restriction applies at both the time of application and the time of joining. If a candidate applies and is found to hold B.Tech/BE at any stage, their candidature will be cancelled. Only candidates whose highest qualification is a 3-year Diploma (with no B.Tech/BE) are eligible.

CBT has 170 questions for 170 marks in 2 hours. Part-I: Technical/Professional Knowledge — 120 questions × 1 mark = 120 marks (post-specific technical content). Part-II: Aptitude Test — 50 questions × 1 mark = 50 marks. Negative marking: ¼ mark per wrong or multiple answer. All selected candidates must sign a service bond for a minimum of 3 years after training completion. DTE/DTC/DTS/JOT-HR/JOT-F&A: General/OBC-NCL/EWS — ₹2,50,000; SC/ST/PwBD — ₹1,25,000. JTT-Survey: General/OBC-NCL/EWS — ₹1,25,000; SC/ST/PwBD — ₹62,500. Leaving before 3 years (post-training) means forfeiture of the full bond amount.
Is POWERGRID Non Executive 2026 recruitment region-specific?+
Yes — strictly region-specific. POWERGRID has multiple regions across India (Northern Region, Southern Region, Eastern Region, Western Region, etc.). Vacancies are notified per region. Candidates must apply for only ONE region. The CBT is conducted on a single day for all regions simultaneously. A separate merit list is prepared for each region post-wise. After joining, candidates are not entitled to request inter-region transfers — you serve in the region you were selected for. Choose your region carefully before applying.
Can final year Diploma students apply for POWERGRID 2026?+
Yes, provisionally. Final year/semester students who expect their results by 15 July 2026 are eligible to apply. However, their candidature is conditional — they must obtain the minimum required marks (70% for Gen/OBC/EWS) in their final results. If they clear CBT and are called for document verification, they must produce their final result and degree certificate showing they meet the qualification requirement. If they fail to secure the minimum marks in the final examination, their candidature will be cancelled.
What is the qualification for JOT F&A post in POWERGRID 2026?+
For Junior Officer Trainee — Finance & Accounts (JOT-F&A): The required qualification is Inter CA (Intermediate of the Chartered Accountancy exam conducted by ICAI) OR Inter CMA (Intermediate of the Cost Management Accounting exam conducted by ICMAI).
