Candidates shortlisted based on CBT merit and post/zone preference are called for DV. Original documents — 10th certificate, ITI certificate (Grade III) / Degree-Diploma certificate (Grade I), category certificate, age proof, photo ID — are verified against application claims. Any mismatch results in cancellation of candidature.

4

Medical Examination

Candidates who clear DV undergo a Medical Examination conducted by Railway Administration as per prescribed medical standards for Technician posts. Candidates with physical/visual disability must submit the disability form with supporting documents. Only candidates declared medically fit proceed to final selection.

5

Final Merit List & Appointment

Final selection is based on CBT merit, subject to successful DV and Medical clearance. Selected candidates are posted to various Zonal Railways and Production Units as per RRB/zone choice exercised at application, subject to vacancy position at the time of allotment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common doubts about RRB Technician CEN 02/2026 answered
What is the total number of vacancies in RRB Technician CEN 02/2026?+
RRB has announced a total of 6,557 vacancies under CEN No. 02/2026 — 323 posts for Technician Grade I Signal and 6,234 posts for Technician Grade III, distributed across 21 RRB zones and Production Units of Indian Railways nationwide.
Can I apply for both Grade I Signal and Grade III in the same application?+
No. Grade I Signal (Pay Level 5) and Grade III (Pay Level 2) are different Pay Levels, and separate CBTs are conducted for each Pay Level. You must submit a separate application and pay separate fees for each Pay Level you wish to apply for. Within a single Pay Level, you can choose only ONE RRB.
What is the educational qualification for Technician Grade III?+
Candidates need 10th class / Matriculation / SSLC pass plus ITI in a relevant trade from a recognised NCVT or SCVT institute. Alternatively, candidates who have completed an Act Apprenticeship in the concerned trade from a recognised institute are also eligible. No engineering degree or diploma is required for Grade III — it is an entry-level technical post.
What is the educational qualification for Technician Grade I Signal?+
Candidates need either a B.Sc. degree with Physics, Electronics, Computer Science, IT, or Instrumentation as subjects from a recognised institution, or a Degree/Diploma in Engineering in the relevant discipline from a recognised institution. This is a higher technical post mainly working in the signalling department — installation, maintenance, inspection and troubleshooting of railway signalling systems critical for safe train operations.
Is there negative marking in the RRB Technician CBT?+
Yes. 1/3rd (0.33) mark is deducted for every incorrect answer in the Computer Based Test. There is no negative marking for unanswered/unattempted questions — so it’s safer to leave a question blank than to guess randomly if you’re unsure. The CBT has 100 questions for 100 marks, completed in 90 minutes (120 minutes for PwBD candidates with scribe).
Is there an interview for RRB Technician posts?+
No. RRB Technician recruitment under CEN 02/2026 follows a 3-stage process: Computer Based Test (CBT) → Document Verification (DV) → Medical Examination. There is no interview and no separate Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) for Technician posts — selection is purely based on CBT merit, subject to clearing DV and Medical fitness.
What is the application fee and is it refundable?+
For General/OBC/EWS candidates, the fee is ₹500/-, out of which ₹400 is refunded after the candidate appears in the CBT (₹100 retained as processing charge). For SC/ST/Ex-Servicemen/PwBD/Female/Transgender/Minorities/Economically Backward Classes, the fee is ₹250/-, which is fully refunded after appearing in the CBT. The refund is credited only if the candidate actually appears for the exam — non-appearance forfeits the refund.
Can I correct mistakes in my application after submission?+
Details filled in the ‘Create an Account’ form — including mobile number and email ID — cannot be modified at any stage once the account is created. However, after submission of the online application and payment of fee, candidates may modify certain other details (except those in ‘Create an Account’ and the chosen RRB) during a limited correction window, as specified by RRB. Always double-check all details before final submission to avoid issues.
