Educational Qualification — Law Degree Mandatory
Candidates must hold a Degree in Law (LLB) from any University or Institution affiliated to any University recognised by the State Government or the Central Government. This is the primary academic requirement — no other degree substitutes for it. The law degree must be completed before the advertisement date.

Candidates must be enrolled as an Advocate in the roll of the Bar Council of any State or Union Territory in India as on the date of advertisement. The Preliminary Examination was held on 7 December 2025. It consisted of 200 objective-type MCQ questions for 200 marks to be completed in 180 minutes (3 hours). This was a qualifying / screening exam — its marks are NOT counted in the final merit list. The Final Answer Key was released on 8 January 2026. Candidates who cleared the cutoff were shortlisted for the Final Written Examination.

The Final Written Examination (Mains) consists of 8 compulsory papers + 3 optional papers (11 papers total), each carrying 100 marks and conducted over 3 hours. Total marks: 1100. The West Bengal Judicial Service Final Written Examination 2026 is conducted at the Examination Hall of the Public Service Commission, West Bengal, Kolkata. Candidates from outside Kolkata must make their own travel and accommodation arrangements well in advance for all 8 exam days (23–30 March and 1–2 April 2026).
