- PwBD + SC/ST: 15 years total relaxation

- Indian citizens are directly eligible. Subjects of Nepal, Bhutan, Tibetan refugees settled in India before 01 January 1962, and persons of Indian origin who migrated from certain specified countries may also be eligible subject to a Government of India eligibility certificate.
- Such candidates may participate provisionally — the formal appointment offer is issued only after the eligibility certificate is obtained from the Government of India.
Online Test (OT) — Computer Based Test
All eligible candidates first appear in a Computer Based Online Test (CBT) of 200 MCQs | 200 marks | 120 minutes. The four sections are: Logical Reasoning & Data Analysis, Quantitative Aptitude, English Language, and General/Economy/Banking Awareness & Computer IT. Each wrong answer attracts a 0.25-mark deduction. Candidates must clear the minimum sectional cut-off AND the overall aggregate cut-off to advance to the Interview. The exam is held pan-India across all states and Union Territories.
Personal Interview (PI) — 100 Marks
OT qualifiers are called for a Personal Interview of 100 marks. The interview evaluates banking and financial knowledge, communication skills, analytical thinking, situational judgement, and overall suitability for a banking career. A minimum qualifying score is set by IDBI Bank. The final merit = OT Score + PI Score combined. Strong OT performance alone does not guarantee selection — interview preparation is equally important.
Pre-Recruitment Medical Test (PRMT)
Merit-listed candidates must clear a Pre-Recruitment Medical Test at an IDBI Bank designated centre. Physical fitness is assessed against IDBI Bank's prescribed medical standards for banking officers. Candidates found medically unfit at this stage will not receive an appointment letter, regardless of OT + Interview rank.
PGDBF + Training + Internship
Medically fit candidates are enrolled in the Post Graduate Diploma in Banking & Finance (PGDBF) — a 1-year structured academic programme covering banking theory, credit management, and financial markets. This is followed by 6 months of on-the-job training (stipend: ₹5,000/month) and a 2-month internship at an IDBI Bank branch (stipend: ₹15,000/month). The entire training sequence must be completed for appointment.
Final Appointment as JAM Grade 'O' Officer
On successfully completing the full training sequence, candidates receive their formal appointment as Junior Assistant Manager Grade 'O'. Starting CTC: ₹6.14–₹6.50 lakh per annum for Class A city postings. After 3 years of confirmed service, JAM Grade 'O' officers are eligible for promotion to Assistant Manager Grade 'A'.
| # | Section | Questions | Marks | Time | Language |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| I | Logical Reasoning, Data Analysis & Interpretation | 60 | 60 | 40 Min | English & Hindi |
| II | English Language | 40 | 40 | 20 Min | English Only |
| III | Quantitative Aptitude | 40 | 40 | 35 Min | English & Hindi |
| IV | General / Economy / Banking Awareness & Computer IT | 60 | 60 | 25 Min | English & Hindi |
| Total | 200 | 200 | 120 Min | — |
- Sectional timing is fixed — each section has a dedicated time limit. You cannot carry unused minutes from one section to another.
- Highest-weighted sections: Reasoning + DI (60 marks, 40 min) and Banking Awareness (60 marks, 25 min) together account for 60% of the total score.
- Tightest section per question: Banking Awareness — 60 questions in just 25 minutes (~25 seconds per question). Speed and pre-exam preparation are critical here.
- Language: All sections except English Language are available bilingually in English and Hindi. The English Language section is in English only.
- Question type: All 200 questions are objective-type Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). Each question carries 1 mark.
- Reasoning & DI: High-difficulty puzzles (seating, scheduling, double line-up) and DI caselets are IDBI exam staples. Practice 20–30 sets daily. Speed on caselets is the biggest differentiator between shortlisted and rejected candidates.
- Quantitative Aptitude: Arithmetic is the foundation — master percentage, ratio, SI/CI, and profit & loss. Dedicate 30 minutes daily to DI sets. Strong mental calculation through estimation reduces time pressure significantly.
- English Language: Read The Hindu Business Line or Mint daily — this builds vocabulary and comprehension simultaneously. Practise RC passages with financial themes, which are commonly used in banking exam question papers.
- Banking Awareness: Maintain running notes on RBI circulars, key acts (SARFAESI, FEMA, IBC, NI Act), recent scheme launches, and budget highlights. Study IDBI Bank's history, subsidiaries, and products — questions about the recruiting bank are a standard feature.
- Mock Tests: Take full 200-question mocks under strict 120-minute conditions at least 3 times per week. Post-mock section-by-section error analysis is more valuable than the mock itself — identify weak zones and address them before the next mock cycle.
