Establishment-wise Vacancy Split
Category-wise Vacancy Overview (Indicative)
Exact trade-wise and category-wise vacancy breakdowns (UR/EWS/OBC/SC/ST) are published in the official notification PDF available at secr.indianrailways.gov.in. The Fitter and Electrician trades have the highest number of vacancies in DRM Raipur Division, while Fitter and Welder dominate the Wagon Repair Shop. PwBD and Ex-Servicemen vacancies are reserved horizontally within the above categories. If EWS category seats remain unfilled, they will be filled as per SECR HQ clarification No. P-HQ/RUL/101/10 (E-50910) dated 13.02.2024. Category figures shown above are approximate.
Candidates must possess an ITI certificate in the exact designated trade for which they are applying. ITI in a related but different trade is not acceptable. Refer to the official notification for the exact trade-wise list — a candidate's ITI trade and the trade they apply for must match. If in doubt, verify the trade name from the official vacancy list before applying.
A. Educational Qualification
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| Matriculation / 10th Class | Must have passed 10th class examination under the 10+2 system of education (or equivalent from any recognised Board) with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks. Aggregate is computed across all subjects. |
| ITI Certificate | Must hold a valid ITI (Industrial Training Institute) Certificate in the relevant designated trade from a recognised institution approved by the NCVT/SCVT. The ITI trade must correspond exactly to the trade applied for. |
| Crucial Date for Both Qualifications | Both qualifications (10th pass and ITI) must have been obtained / awarded before 05 May 2026 — the date of notification. Candidates currently studying or awaiting results in either qualification are strictly NOT eligible. |
B. Age Limit (as on 05.05.2026)
| Category | Minimum Age | Maximum Age | DOB Range (indicative) |
|---|---|---|---|
| General (UR) / EWS | 15 years | 24 years | Born between 06 May 2002 and 05 May 2011 |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 15 years | 27 years (24 + 3 yrs) | Born between 06 May 1999 and 05 May 2011 |
| SC / ST | 15 years | 29 years (24 + 5 yrs) | Born between 06 May 1997 and 05 May 2011 |
| PwBD (all categories) | 15 years | 34 years (24 + 10 yrs) | Born between 06 May 1992 and 05 May 2011 |
| Ex-Servicemen | 15 years | 34 years (24 + 10 yrs) | As per Central Govt. guidelines |
| Age calculated as on the date of notification: 05 May 2026. Maximum age relaxations are cumulative only for PwBD candidates from respective categories (e.g., PwD-OBC can get +10 years on top of OBC relaxation per extant rules). | |||
- Appearing candidates are strictly NOT eligible — both 10th and ITI result must be declared and certificate in hand before the notification date 05.05.2026
- 50% in 10th is mandatory — this is a hard minimum with no rounding. Calculate the exact aggregate across all subjects before applying
- OBC certificate must not be older than one year from the closing date of the notification (04 June 2026) — OBC certificates older than one year are invalid
- SC/ST caste certificates must be in the Central Government format (Annexure-B) — state format alone may not be accepted
- OBC candidates must also upload a separate Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) certificate in Central Government format (Annexure-C)
- PwBD certificate must show a minimum of 40% disability, issued by a Medical Board constituted by Central or State Government
- EWS certificate as per sample Annexure-E must be produced at document verification — upload during application on the portal
- Aadhaar verification is mandatory on the apprenticeshipindia.gov.in portal for all candidates
As per Railway Establishment Rule 201/2017. Both 10th and ITI marks carry equal weight of 50% each. Minimum 50% aggregate required in 10th class to be eligible.
Stage 1 — Merit List Preparation (No Written Exam)
After the application window closes on 4 June 2026, SECR prepares a category-wise merit list for each trade based on the simple average of 10th percentage and ITI percentage (as per Railway Establishment Rule 201/2017). There is no written test, group discussion, or interview. Merit is determined purely by academic marks. A separate merit list is prepared for each establishment (DRM Raipur Division and Wagon Repair Shop) and each trade, category-wise (UR/OBC/SC/ST/EWS). In case of a tie in merit, the candidate with the older date of birth is given preference.
Stage 2 — Document Verification (DV)
Candidates shortlisted based on merit are called for Document Verification at the DRM Office, Raipur. All original documents must be produced — including 10th certificate and marksheet, ITI certificate and marksheet, date of birth proof, caste certificate (SC/ST in Central Govt. format Annexure-B), OBC-NCL certificate (Annexure-C — not older than one year), EWS certificate (Annexure-E), PwBD certificate (showing 40%+ disability from Medical Board), Aadhaar card, and any other document specified in the call letter. Discrepancies in documents lead to immediate rejection.
Stage 3 — Medical Examination
Candidates clearing document verification are called for a Medical Examination at a Government/Railway hospital. The medical fitness standards for apprentices are as prescribed by SECR/Railway Board. Candidates are advised to check the medical fitness requirements (available on secr.indianrailways.gov.in) before applying. No relaxation in prescribed physical fitness standards is allowed.
Stage 4 — Apprenticeship Training Commencement
Candidates who clear both DV and Medical are engaged as Trade Apprentices for a period of 1 year at the respective establishment (DRM Office, Raipur Division or Wagon Repair Shop, Raipur). Training is governed by the Apprentices Act, 1961. Monthly stipend is paid as per Railway Board rules. On successful completion, candidates receive an NCVT Apprenticeship Certificate. The Railway Administration's decision at all stages is final and binding. No TA/DA is paid for any stage.
As per Railway Board norms, candidates who complete apprenticeship training and pass the CCAA (Craft-wise Common Apprentice Assessment) are given 20% priority/reservation in future Level-1 (Group D) railway recruitment as per Act Apprentices. While regular employment is NOT guaranteed, completing SECR apprenticeship significantly improves prospects in future Railway RRC Group D / Level-1 recruitments.
| Benefit / Condition | Details |
|---|---|
| Monthly Stipend | Paid as per Railway Board rules under the Apprentices Act, 1961. Indicative range: ₹9,000 to ₹15,000 per month depending on the trade. Exact stipend for each trade is specified in the official notification. |
| Allowances During Training | No additional allowances (DA, HRA, TA etc.) are paid during the apprenticeship training period — stipend only |
| NCVT Certificate | On successful completion of the 1-year apprenticeship training, candidates receive a nationally recognised NCVT (National Council for Vocational Training) Apprenticeship Certificate |
| Training Environment | Hands-on practical training in actual railway workshop/division environment — exposure to real railway operations, maintenance procedures, and technical equipment |
| Railway Employment Advantage | CCAA (Craft-wise Common Apprentice Assessment) qualified apprentices get 20% priority reservation in future Level-1 railway recruitment as per Railway Board policy |
| Employment Guarantee | NOT obligatory — Indian Railways are not bound to offer regular employment after completion of apprenticeship; apprentices are also not bound to accept employment if offered |
| Bond / Agreement | No separate service bond. Training agreement under Apprentices Act, 1961 is signed at the time of joining training. |
| Apprenticeship under SECR is a practical training programme, not a permanent government job. However, the NCVT certificate and railway workshop experience substantially improve candidates' prospects for future railway and public sector technical jobs. | |
