Other Designated Trades
As per official notification trade-wise vacancy list
⚠ ITI Trade Must Match Vacancy Trade

Candidates must possess an ITI certificate in the exact designated trade for which they are applying. ITI in a related but different trade is not acceptable. Refer to the official notification for the exact trade-wise list — a candidate's ITI trade and the trade they apply for must match. If in doubt, verify the trade name from the official vacancy list before applying.

Crucial Date for Both QualificationsBoth qualifications (10th pass and ITI) must have been obtained / awarded before 05 May 2026 — the date of notification. Candidates currently studying or awaiting results in either qualification are strictly NOT eligible.

🚫 Critical Eligibility Points — Do Not Overlook
  • Appearing candidates are strictly NOT eligible — both 10th and ITI result must be declared and certificate in hand before the notification date 05.05.2026
  • 50% in 10th is mandatory — this is a hard minimum with no rounding. Calculate the exact aggregate across all subjects before applying
  • OBC certificate must not be older than one year from the closing date of the notification (04 June 2026) — OBC certificates older than one year are invalid
  • SC/ST caste certificates must be in the Central Government format (Annexure-B) — state format alone may not be accepted

As per Railway Establishment Rule 201/2017. Both 10th and ITI marks carry equal weight of 50% each. Minimum 50% aggregate required in 10th class to be eligible.

1

Stage 1 — Merit List Preparation (No Written Exam)

After the application window closes on 4 June 2026, SECR prepares a category-wise merit list for each trade based on the simple average of 10th percentage and ITI percentage (as per Railway Establishment Rule 201/2017). There is no written test, group discussion, or interview. Merit is determined purely by academic marks. A separate merit list is prepared for each establishment (DRM Raipur Division and Wagon Repair Shop) and each trade, category-wise (UR/OBC/SC/ST/EWS). In case of a tie in merit, the candidate with the older date of birth is given preference.

2

Stage 2 — Document Verification (DV)

Candidates shortlisted based on merit are called for Document Verification at the DRM Office, Raipur. All original documents must be produced — including 10th certificate and marksheet, ITI certificate and marksheet, date of birth proof, caste certificate (SC/ST in Central Govt. format Annexure-B), OBC-NCL certificate (Annexure-C — not older than one year), EWS certificate (Annexure-E), PwBD certificate (showing 40%+ disability from Medical Board), Aadhaar card, and any other document specified in the call letter. Discrepancies in documents lead to immediate rejection.

3

Stage 3 — Medical Examination

Candidates clearing document verification are called for a Medical Examination at a Government/Railway hospital. The medical fitness standards for apprentices are as prescribed by SECR/Railway Board. Candidates are advised to check the medical fitness requirements (available on secr.indianrailways.gov.in) before applying. No relaxation in prescribed physical fitness standards is allowed.

4

Stage 4 — Apprenticeship Training Commencement

Candidates who clear both DV and Medical are engaged as Trade Apprentices for a period of 1 year at the respective establishment (DRM Office, Raipur Division or Wagon Repair Shop, Raipur). Training is governed by the Apprentices Act, 1961. Monthly stipend is paid as per Railway Board rules. On successful completion, candidates receive an NCVT Apprenticeship Certificate. The Railway Administration's decision at all stages is final and binding. No TA/DA is paid for any stage.

🚀 Post-Training Railway Employment Benefit

As per Railway Board norms, candidates who complete apprenticeship training and pass the CCAA (Craft-wise Common Apprentice Assessment) are given 20% priority/reservation in future Level-1 (Group D) railway recruitment as per Act Apprentices. While regular employment is NOT guaranteed, completing SECR apprenticeship significantly improves prospects in future Railway RRC Group D / Level-1 recruitments.

Beware of any third-party websites or agents claiming to charge a fee for this recruitment — the application is completely free at the official portal apprenticeshipindia.gov.in.
Is a written exam conducted for SECR Apprentice 2026?+
No written exam is conducted. Selection is purely merit-based — the merit score is calculated as the simple average of the 10th class percentage and ITI percentage, giving equal weightage (50% each) to both. There is no group discussion or interview either. Final selection depends entirely on this merit score, followed by document verification and medical examination.
I am in my final year of ITI. Can I apply?+
No — you cannot apply. The official notification explicitly states: "Candidates appearing in qualifying examination and candidates whose result is awaited are NOT eligible." Both your 10th class and ITI certificates must have been obtained — results declared and certificate in hand — before 05 May 2026 (the notification date). This is a strict condition with no exceptions. If your ITI result is pending as on 05.05.2026, you are ineligible for this batch.
How is the merit list prepared for SECR Apprentice 2026?+
The merit list is prepared as per Railway Establishment Rule 201/2017 by taking the simple average of the percentage marks obtained in Matriculation (10th class) and ITI examination, giving equal weightage to both. Formula: Merit Score = (10th percentage + ITI percentage) ÷ 2. Separate category-wise (UR/OBC/SC/ST/EWS) merit lists are prepared for each trade and each establishment. In case of a tie, the candidate older in age is placed higher.

The SECR 2026 recruitment covers multiple designated trades including: Fitter, Electrician, Welder (G&E), Machinist, Turner, Diesel Mechanic, COPA (Computer Operator & Programming Assistant), Carpenter, Wireman, Plumber, Painter (General), Electronic Mechanic, Stenographer (Hindi/English), Mechanic Motor Vehicle, and others as specified in the official notification's trade-wise vacancy list. The Fitter and Electrician trades have the highest number of vacancies in DRM Raipur Division, while Fitter and Welder dominate in Wagon Repair Shop.
Will I get a permanent job in Indian Railways after completing SECR apprenticeship?+
No guaranteed employment. As per the official notification: "It is NOT obligatory for Railways to offer regular employment after training completion, nor is it obligatory for apprentices to accept employment if offered." However, candidates who complete the training and pass the CCAA (Craft-wise Common Apprentice Assessment) are entitled to 20% priority reservation in future Level-1 (Group C/D) railway recruitment as per Railway Board norms. The NCVT certificate also improves prospects in other government sector technical jobs.
What is the age limit for SECR Apprentice Recruitment 2026?+
The age limit is calculated as on 05 May 2026 (notification date). General (UR) and EWS candidates must be between 15 and 24 years. OBC candidates get a relaxation of 3 years (maximum age 27 years). SC/ST candidates get 5 years relaxation (maximum age 29 years). PwBD and Ex-Servicemen candidates get 10 years relaxation (maximum age 34 years for UR-PwBD). The minimum age of 15 years applies to all categories.
What is the stipend for SECR Trade Apprentices?+
Selected Trade Apprentices receive a monthly stipend paid as per Railway Board rules under the Apprentices Act, 1961. The indicative stipend amount ranges from approximately ₹9,000 to ₹15,000 per month depending on the designated trade. The exact trade-wise stipend amount is specified in the official SECR notification. No additional allowances like DA, HRA, or TA are paid during the apprenticeship training period.

The two establishments — DRM Office, Raipur Division (Estt. No. E05202200048) and Wagon Repair Shop, Raipur (Estt. No. E11152200001) — are separate establishments on the apprenticeshipindia.gov.in portal. Candidates need to check whether applying to both is permitted as per the official notification.
