Selection Process & Exam Pattern
Kannada Language Test (qualifying) + Written Exam (2 papers × 300 marks) — Offline OMR — 0.75 negative marking
1

Stage 1 — Kannada Language Test (Qualifying) — 6 June 2026

The Kannada Language Test is qualifying in nature — marks scored here are not added to the final merit. The test is set at the SSLC (Class 10) standard with Kannada as the medium. Maximum marks: 150. Minimum qualifying marks: 50 out of 150. Candidates who have studied Kannada as a medium or subject in their qualifying examination (as per Karnataka Civil Services Rules 2021) are exempted. Candidates who fail to secure 50 marks in the Kannada Language Test are not eligible for final selection regardless of their written exam score.

2

Stage 2 — Competitive Written Examination — 7 June (RPC) / 14 June (KK) 2026

The written examination is the merit-determining stage. Format: Offline OMR (Objective Type)2 papers of 300 marks each = 600 marks total. Negative marking: 0.75 marks per wrong answer. Minimum qualifying marks: 35% in the written exam. Papers are available in Kannada and English — in case of translation discrepancy, the English version prevails. The exam may be conducted through Offline OMR or Computer Based Test (CBT) as decided by KEA. Final merit list and selection are based on written exam scores of candidates who have cleared the Kannada Language Test.

3

Stage 3 — Document Verification & Final Appointment

Candidates shortlisted based on written exam merit are called for document verification where original certificates of educational qualification, age proof, caste/category certificates, Kannada medium/language certificates, domicile, and other applicable documents are verified. Final appointment is made to the Karnataka Agriculture Department based on category-wise merit, region (RPC or KK), and stream (Sre.85 or Sre.15) preference. Selected candidates serve a 2-year probation period before confirmation in service.

📙 Syllabus Areas for KEA AO AAO Written Exam
  • Paper 1 — General Studies & Agriculture Basics: General Knowledge, Current Affairs (National, International & Karnataka), Mental Ability, English & Kannada Language, Basic Agriculture concepts, Karnataka Agriculture Department schemes and policies
  • Paper 2 — Core Agriculture/Allied Subject: For Sre.85 (B.Sc Agri stream) — Agronomy, Soil Science, Horticulture, Plant Protection, Crop Physiology, Agricultural Extension, Farm Management, Agricultural Biotechnology, Post-Harvest Technology, Agricultural Economics. For Sre.15 (allied stream) — subject-specific technical paper relevant to the degree held
  • Preparation tip: With 0.75 negative marking, attempting ~70–80% of questions with high accuracy is typically safer than attempting all 100%. Focus on core agronomy, soil science, and Karnataka agriculture-specific topics as they carry the highest weightage in state agriculture service exams
  • Kannada Language Test preparation: The test is at SSLC level — revise basic Kannada grammar, comprehension, and composition. 50 out of 150 marks is the qualifying threshold — straightforward for Kannada speakers

What is KEA AO AAO Recruitment 2026 and how many vacancies are announced?+

RPC region: 632 posts (630 + 02 HK). KK region: 258 posts (242 + 16 HK). Of all posts, 85% are for B.Sc Agriculture graduates and 15% for allied disciplines.
What is the difference between RPC and Kalyana Karnataka notifications in KEA 2026?+
KEA has released two separate notifications for two distinct regions of Karnataka: (1) RPC (Residual Parent Cadre) — EDI/KEA/08/RPC/2026: The general Karnataka cadre covering most districts. Written exam: 7 June 2026. (2) KK (Kalyana Karnataka) — EDI/KEA/09/KK/2026: The special constitutional status region covering Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Raichur, Koppal, Ballari, and Vijayanagara districts. Written exam: 14 June 2026. HK (Hyderabad-Karnataka) reserved posts exist within the KK notification exclusively for candidates from these 7 districts. Candidates should apply to the appropriate region based on their domicile/choice.
What is the difference between Sre.85 and Sre.15 posts in KEA AO AAO 2026?+
Posts are divided into two streams: Sre.85 (85% of posts) — reserved exclusively for graduates with B.Sc (Agriculture) or B.Sc (Hons) Agriculture from ICAR/AICTE recognised universities. Sre.15 (15% of posts) — open to graduates with allied agricultural disciplines: B.Tech (Food Science & Technology/Food Technology/Biotechnology/Agricultural Engineering), B.Sc (Sericulture & Cooperation/Agri Marketing & Cooperation/Agri Business Management/Agri Biotechnology/Agricultural Engineering). Candidates must specify their stream at the time of application — this determines which posts they compete for.
Is the Kannada Language Test mandatory for all candidates in KEA AO AAO 2026?+
The Kannada Language Test (scheduled 6 June 2026) is mandatory for candidates who have not studied Kannada as a medium of instruction or as a subject in their qualifying examinations. The test is qualifying in nature — candidates must score a minimum of 50 out of 150 marks (SSLC standard). Candidates who meet the Kannada language criteria under Karnataka Civil Services Rules 2021 are exempted. Failing the Kannada Language Test results in disqualification regardless of written exam performance.

The written competitive examination has 2 objective-type papers of 300 marks each = 600 marks total, conducted in Offline OMR mode. Negative marking: 0.75 marks per wrong answer. Minimum qualifying marks: 35% in the written exam. Papers are available in Kannada and English (English version prevails in discrepancy). Final selection and merit list are based on written exam marks only (among Kannada Language Test qualifiers). No interview. RPC exam: 7 June 2026; KK exam: 14 June 2026.
What is the age limit for KEA AO AAO 2026 and is there any relaxation?+
Minimum age: 18 years. Maximum age: General Merit — 40 years; Category 2A/2B/3A/3B (OBC) — 43 years; SC/ST/Category-1 — 45 years. Age is calculated as on the closing date of application (10 May 2026). Additional relaxation for Ex-Servicemen, PwD, and other special categories as per Karnataka Government norms.
Can a candidate apply for both RPC and Kalyana Karnataka notifications simultaneously?+
Candidates should refer to the official notifications to verify whether simultaneous applications for both RPC and KK are permitted. Generally, both are separate recruitments for different regions. However, since they have different exam dates (7 June for RPC and 14 June for KK), there is no scheduling conflict. Candidates who are eligible under both notifications and meet residency/domicile criteria may apply to both, but must pay the applicable fee for each application separately. Always verify from the official notification PDFs before applying.
What is the pay scale for KEA Agriculture Officer and Assistant Agriculture Officer 2026?+
As per the 2024 Revised State Pay Structure of Karnataka: Agriculture Officer (AO) — ₹69,250–₹1,34,200 per month; Assistant Agriculture Officer (AAO) — ₹65,950–₹1,24,900 per month. What is OTR and is it mandatory for KEA 2026 application?+
OTR (One Time Registration) is Karnataka Examinations Authority's unified registration system. Candidates must register once on the OTR portal at cetonline.karnataka.gov.in/kea/ before applying for any KEA recruitment. OTR creates a permanent profile with personal, educational, and category details that can be reused for all future KEA recruitments.
