Indian citizens only. Reserved category benefits (age relaxation, fee concession) are applicable only to domiciles of Uttar Pradesh.

SC/ST/OBC (UP domicile) & State Govt. Employees: +5 years relaxation (max 45 years)

Age proof: Only High School / equivalent certificate date of birth is accepted.

Educational Qualification — Assistant Environmental Engineer (AEE)
Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering / Chemical Technology / Civil Engineering / Environmental Engineering from a recognised university established by law in India.
Equivalent qualification: Associate Member of Institute of Engineers India (AMIE) in Chemical, Civil, or Environmental Engineering branch is also accepted.

Educational Qualification — Assistant Scientific Officer (ASO)
Option A: Ph.D. (Doctorate) in Chemistry / Zoology / Botany / Biochemistry from a recognised university + 3 years of experience in Environment / Pollution Control / Public Health.

Option B: Master's Degree (M.Sc.) in Chemistry / Zoology / Botany / Biochemistry from a recognised university + 5 years of experience in Environment / Pollution Control / Public Health.

Eligibility Cut-off Date
Candidates must possess all required qualifications and eligibility as on 28 February 2026 (date of notification).
⛔ Who Cannot Apply / Key Restrictions
  • Candidates who are not domiciles of UP cannot claim SC/ST/OBC reservation benefits — they will be treated as Unreserved.
  • Women candidates can only use their father's side caste certificate — husband's category is not accepted.
  • Bigamist candidates: A man with more than one living wife, or a woman married to a man with a living wife, is ineligible (unless UP Governor grants special exemption).
  • Applications submitted through any mode other than the official online portal will be rejected outright.
  • Incomplete applications or applications without prescribed fee/documents will not be considered at any stage.
  • No withdrawal of submitted application is allowed under any circumstances.

Fee must be paid only through the online payment gateway available on uppcb.gov.in. No Demand Draft, Cheque, Money Order, Postal Order, Banker's Cheque, or Postal Stamp is accepted.

Fee once paid is non-refundable and non-transferable under any circumstances — including rejection of application, withdrawal, or future examination use.

Made a mistake? Submit a second (fresh) application online with corrected information within the deadline by paying the full fee again. Previous fee will NOT be adjusted or refunded.

Selection Process
1

Computer Based Test (CBT) — Stage I  400 Marks

Objective-type CBT of 100 questions (70 technical + 30 aptitude). Duration: 120 minutes. Negative marking of 1 mark per wrong answer. Merit list is prepared based on CBT scores to shortlist candidates for interview.

Interview — Stage II  70 Marks

Candidates shortlisted from the CBT merit list are called for a personal interview. Original documents must be produced at this stage. This stage evaluates domain knowledge, communication and overall suitability.

Document Verification

Original and self-attested copies of age proof, mark sheets, degrees, category certificates, and identity documents must be produced. Candidates whose documents don't match the application will be disqualified.

Medical Examination & Final Joining

Selected candidates must undergo a medical examination by the Chief Medical Officer. The fitness report must be submitted at the time of joining. Final appointment is made under UPPCB Service Regulations 1995 (as amended).

Register & Fill the Online Application Form

Complete the online registration. Fill all fields accurately — name, post applied for, caste, date of birth, address, email ID, and mobile number. These entries are treated as final and cannot be changed after submission without paying a fresh fee.

Upload Required Documents

Upload scanned copies of: photograph, signature, educational qualification certificates, caste certificate (in UP Government prescribed format), and any other relevant documents. Ensure all uploads are clear and meet the specified size/format requirements.

Pay Application Fee Online

Pay the fee via the online payment gateway on the UPPCB website only. No offline payment mode is accepted. Bank charges are extra and borne by the candidate. Fee is non-refundable once paid.

Submit & Take Printout — Deadline: 28 March 2026, 6:00 PM

After final submission, print and retain a hard copy of the submitted application. This printout is mandatory to produce at the interview stage. No hard copy needs to be sent to UPPCB by post. Keep monitoring uppcb.gov.in for admit card and exam date updates.

What is the last date to apply for UPPCB AEE & ASO 2026?

The last date to submit the online application is 28 March 2026 up to 6:00 PM. Applications submitted after this deadline will not be accepted under any circumstances. It is strongly advised not to wait for the last day to avoid technical issues on the portal.

What is the age limit and how is it calculated?

The age must be between 21 years (minimum) and 40 years (maximum) as on 1 July 2025. Age is calculated only from the date of birth recorded in the High School / equivalent examination certificate. Age relaxations:
  • SC/ST/OBC (UP domicile) + State Govt. Employees: +5 years (max 45 years)
  • Ex-Servicemen: Service period + 3 years (max 15 years total relaxation)
  • Persons with Disabilities: +15 years

Can a Civil Engineering graduate apply for AEE post?

Yes. The post of Assistant Environmental Engineer (AEE) accepts a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Technology, or Environmental Engineering from a recognised university. Additionally, an AMIE qualification (Associate Member of Institute of Engineers India) in these branches is also accepted as an equivalent qualification.

Is a written exam mandatory? What is the exam pattern?

Yes, a Computer Based Test (CBT) is compulsory as Stage I of selection. It consists of 100 objective-type questions (70 technical + 30 general aptitude) for 400 marks with a 120-minute duration. Marking: +4 for correct, −1 for wrong, 0 for unattempted. Candidates shortlisted via CBT merit list are then called for a 70-mark Interview (Stage II). Total marks = 470.

What is the application fee and can it be refunded?

Application fee: UR/OBC — ₹2,000 | SC/ST — ₹1,000 | PwD — Free. The fee must be paid online through the UPPCB portal only. No offline payment is accepted. Once paid, the fee is strictly non-refundable and non-transferable under any circumstances, including application withdrawal or rejection.

Can I correct mistakes in my submitted application?

UPPCB does not allow withdrawal or editing of a submitted application. However, you may submit a second fresh application (second registration) online with the corrected information before the deadline, by paying the full application fee again. The fee for the incorrect first application will not be refunded or adjusted.

Are OBC/SC/ST candidates from outside Uttar Pradesh eligible for reservation?

No. Reservation benefits (age relaxation, fee concession, reserved seats) are applicable only to candidates who are domiciles of Uttar Pradesh. Candidates from SC/ST/OBC categories of other states will be treated as Unreserved (General) candidates and must pay the full ₹2,000 fee.

Is experience required for ASO post? What qualifies as valid experience?

Yes, experience is mandatory for the ASO post.
  • Ph.D. holders require 3 years of post-qualification experience
  • M.Sc. holders require 5 years of post-qualification experience
Valid experience must be in the field of Environment, Pollution Control, or Public Health. Experience in unrelated fields will not be counted.

At the time of interview, candidates must produce originals and self-attested copies of:

  • All educational mark sheets and degree certificates
  • Caste/category certificate (in UP Government's prescribed format)

What is the salary for AEE and ASO posts at UPPCB?

Both AEE and ASO posts are at Pay Matrix Level-10 under the 7th Pay Commission. The starting basic pay is ₹56,100 per month (Pay Band: ₹56,100 – ₹1,77,500). In addition, employees receive Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Medical Allowance, and other UP Government-prescribed allowances, making the gross in-hand significantly higher.

Where will the exam centre be located? Can I choose my exam city?

No. UPPCB reserves the right to allot examination centres to candidates at its own discretion. No representation or request for change of exam centre will be entertained. Admit cards with centre details will be published on uppcb.gov.in after the application deadline.
