Stage 1 — PET-2025 Score Shortlisting
Candidates are shortlisted for the Main Written Examination based on their normalised PET-2025 score. Shortlisting is done at 15 times the number of category-wise vacancies — so for 209 posts, approximately 3,135 candidates are shortlisted (proportioned by category). Candidates with zero or negative PET-2025 score are not considered for shortlisting. Merit at this stage is purely based on normalised PET-2025 marks with no weightage from educational qualifications.
Stage 2 — Main Written Examination (100 Marks, 2 Hours)
An objective-type examination with 100 questions for 100 marks in a 2-hour duration. Negative marking: 0.25 marks deducted per wrong answer. The exam is divided into three parts (see Card 07 for detailed pattern). Questions are in Hindi. The Main Exam score is the decisive merit-determining stage — final selection merit is based on marks obtained here. Admit card for this exam is issued via upsssc.gov.in. Exam fee is separate — charged at this stage, not at application stage.
Stage 3 — Physical Standard Test (PST) — Qualifying
Candidates who qualify the Main Written Exam are called for the Physical Standard Test (PST). This tests height and chest measurements as per prescribed norms. Failure to meet the physical standard measurements disqualifies the candidate regardless of written exam score. The PST is qualifying in nature — candidates who clear it proceed to PET. (Refer to Card 08 for exact measurements by gender and category.)
Stage 4 — Physical Efficiency Test (PET Run) — Qualifying
PST-cleared candidates attempt the Physical Efficiency Test (PET run). This is also qualifying in nature. Male candidates: Must complete a 4.8 km run within 25 minutes. Female candidates: Must complete a 2.4 km run within 14 minutes. Candidates who fail to complete the run within the prescribed time are disqualified. Final merit list for selection is drawn from candidates who clear all four stages, based on Main Written Exam marks.

- Part 3 (UP General Info — 20 marks) is the easiest to score: Candidates from UP who read UP newspapers, UP current affairs, and study UP geography/history have a natural advantage. Focus on recent UP government schemes, districts, major rivers, UP sports personalities, and UP in news
- Part 1 History (10 marks) — cover NCERT Class 6–12 Indian History chapters: Modern Indian History, Freedom Struggle (Gandhian era, important events), Ancient and Medieval India basics, and major national movements like Non-Cooperation, Civil Disobedience, Quit India
- Indian Polity & Constitution (10 marks): Fundamental Rights, Directive Principles, Constitutional Amendments, Parliament, Panchayati Raj, and important Articles. Laxmikant's Indian Polity is sufficient
- Current Events (10 marks): Last 6 months of national and international news — focus on sports championships, awards, government schemes, defence developments, and scientific achievements
- Environment & Disaster Management (10 marks): Climate change, national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, COP summits, natural disasters, and government disaster management policies
- Computer & IT (15 marks): MS Office, internet basics, computer hardware/software, keyboard shortcuts, recent tech developments (AI, 5G, UPI, DigiLocker) — straightforward scoring section
- Negative marking strategy: With –0.25 per wrong, avoid guessing if unsure. Attempting 80 confidently scored questions correctly gives 80 marks minus small penalty — much better than attempting all 100 with guesses
| Gender / Category | Minimum Height | Chest (Unexpanded) | Chest (Expanded) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Male — General / OBC / SC (Plains) | 167.7 cm (5 ft 6 in) | 78.8 cm (31 in) | 83.8 cm (33 in) |
| Male — Mountainous / Hill Region candidates | 162.6 cm (5 ft 4 in) | 76.5 cm | 81.5 cm |
| Male — ST candidates | 160 cm (5 ft 3 in) | 76.5 cm | 81.5 cm |
| Female — General / OBC / SC (Plains) | 152 cm (5 ft) | Not applicable | |
| Female — Mountainous / ST candidates | 147 cm (4 ft 10 in) | Not applicable | |
| Minimum chest expansion for males: 5 cm (difference between unexpanded and expanded measurements). Measurement done at the time of PST using standard equipment in the presence of medical officers. Candidates must not have any disqualifying physical condition as per the official notification. | |||
Physical Efficiency Test (PET Run) — Qualifying:
| Gender | Distance to Cover | Time Limit | Nature |
|---|---|---|---|
| Male candidates (all categories) | 4.8 km | 25 minutes | Qualifying Only No marks added to merit |
| Female candidates (all categories) | 2.4 km | 14 minutes | |
| The PET run is qualifying in nature — no marks are added to final merit for completing the run. Failure to complete within the specified time means disqualification even if the candidate performed well in the written exam and PST. | |||
- Start running immediately — do not wait for the exam date. The Main Exam and PST happen first, but by then you need to already be physically prepared for the 4.8 km / 2.4 km run
- Progressive training: Begin with 1–2 km daily runs, increase by 500m every week. Aim to comfortably run 5 km well within 25 minutes (not just barely) to account for exam-day nerves
- For height shortfall: Nothing can increase height after physical maturity. If you do not meet the minimum height, do not waste time applying — the PST will disqualify you
- For chest expansion (males): Deep breathing exercises, swimming, and chest expansion drills can improve the 5 cm minimum expansion requirement over several weeks
