Selection Process

🎤 Final selection is based solely on performance in the selection interview. There is no written test. Shortlisting is done based on national exam score and qualifying exam percentage. Research project allotment is also interview-based.
1

Application Submission & Fee Payment

Submit application online at barcocesexam.in/jrf before 31 March 2026. Pay ₹500 fee (if applicable) using the Application Number generated. Upload all required documents including national exam score card, mark sheets, degree certificate and caste certificate.

2

Application Scrutiny & Shortlisting for Interview

BARC scrutinizes all applications. Candidates are shortlisted for interview based on: (a) valid national level examination score, and (b) percentage of marks in qualifying degree. The number of candidates called for interview is decided by the Selection Committee. Fulfilling eligibility alone does not guarantee an interview call.

3

Selection Interview at BARC, Mumbai

Tentatively scheduled for June–July 2026. Candidates must bring the printed application, valid photo ID (Voter ID / Aadhaar / Passport / Driving Licence / College ID), original mark sheets and certificates along with one set of self-attested photocopies. Candidates currently employed under Central/State Govt/PSU must produce a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer.

4

Document Verification & Research Project Allotment

Final selection is based purely on interview performance. In case of a tie, B.Sc./M.Sc. marks are considered. Research project allotment is also made on the basis of interview performance. Selected candidates receive intimation via email and the list is published on BARC website.

5

Joining & PhD Registration at HBNI

Selected candidates join as JRFs and register for PhD at Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI). PhD work may be carried out at BARC Mumbai, Kalpakkam, Indore, Kolkata, Hyderabad or Visakhapatnam depending on allotted project. Accommodation in hostel (mandatory where available) or HRA as per Government norms.

How to Apply Online

1

Visit Official Application Portal

Go to barcocesexam.in/jrf. Read the "How to Apply" instructions on the home page carefully before starting the application. Application window: 10 March 2026 to 31 March 2026.

2

Register with Valid Email ID & Mobile Number

A valid and active email ID and mobile number are mandatory. Keep them active until final result declaration — all communication including interview call letters will be sent only via registered email or made available on the website. No postal communication.

3

Fill Personal & Educational Details

Fill all Personal Details, Discipline applied for, and complete the Educational & Professional Qualifications section without omission — applications with incomplete educational details will not be processed. Candidates pursuing M.Sc. / Integrated M.Sc. / B.S-M.S. / B.S. must select the correct "pursuing" option from the drop-down box.

4

Upload Photo, Signature & All Documents

Upload a recent passport-size JPEG photograph (max 50 KB, front-facing, good resolution) and signature. Both must be clearly visible in the preview — unclear photo/signature leads to rejection. Compress individual semester marksheets into a single file before upload. Applications without these attachments are disqualified.

5

Verify All Details Before Final Submission
