- Subject section (50 marks) is the decider: Half the paper is Electrical Engineering — mastering core topics like power systems, machines, circuits, and protection systems gives an enormous edge. This is where rank gaps are created.
- Punjabi (20 marks) is easy scoring: Most candidates from Punjab find this comfortable. If you haven't studied Punjabi formally, practice basic grammar and comprehension — these 20 marks are relatively straightforward.
- –0.25 negative marking is forgiving: Unlike SSC's –0.50, this is gentler. Attempt questions where you can eliminate even 1 option — your expected value is positive at 3+ reasonable options you can identify.
- Tie-breaking by age: If two candidates score identically, the older candidate ranks higher. This makes high absolute scores critically important — don't leave marks on the table.
- Answer key objection window: After the exam, PSPCL will display the question paper and answer key on pspcl.in. Candidates can raise objections — an expert committee reviews them before preparing the final merit list.
Stage 1 — Online Computer-Based Test (CBT)
The primary and merit-determining stage. 100 MCQ, 100 marks, 2 hours, five sections as described above. Candidates who score below the minimum qualifying marks (45% General / 35% Reserved) are eliminated. The final merit list is prepared category-wise based on normalised CBT marks (if multi-shift) or raw marks (if single-shift). Sports person category merit is prepared separately by the Office of Director/Sports, Punjab based on Sports Gradation Policy.
Stage 2 — Document Checking
Based on the merit list, candidates are called for document checking at PSPCL. Original documents and one self-attested photocopy of each must be produced. Original documents are returned on the same day after verification. Intimation is sent via registered email and posted on pspcl.in. Each candidate gets two chances — if absent on both occasions, candidature is permanently cancelled. Candidates cannot send a representative — personal appearance is mandatory.
Stage 3 — Appointment & Joining
Candidates who clear document checking are placed on the selection panel. Appointment letters are issued by the appointing authority. Candidates receive 21 days to join from the letter date. A final notice of 21 days is given if the first joining date is missed. Failure to join within the total window results in automatic cancellation of the appointment letter. Selected candidates already in Government/Semi-Govt. service must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) at joining after resigning from their current post.
Being called for document checking does NOT guarantee selection or appointment. The candidature remains provisional until all eligibility conditions are verified and the appointment letter is issued. Even after document checking, a candidate can be disqualified if any information is found false or forged at any stage — including after joining PSPCL.
| Component | During Probation (3 Years) | After Regularisation |
|---|---|---|
| Basic Pay | Minimum admissible pay only | ₹35,400/month (7th CPC scale) |
| Dearness Allowance (DA) | Not payable | Payable as per PSPCL/Punjab Govt. norms |
| Grade Pay | Not payable | As per pay matrix |
| Annual Increment | Not given | Annual increment applicable |
| Travel Allowance (TA) | Payable as per post entitlement | Payable |
| Medical Reimbursement | Payable as per post entitlement | Payable |
| Any Other Allowance | Not payable | As per applicable PSPCL rules |
| Exception: Candidates already serving in PSPCL whose actual pay on existing post exceeds minimum admissible pay — their pay is protected during probation (but no increment or additional allowance). | ||
The 3-year probation is significant. During this period, your take-home will be lower than the ₹35,400 basic pay since DA (typically 40–50%+ of basic in other posts) is NOT added during probation. Plan your finances accordingly. Probation may also be extended beyond 3 years as per Punjab Govt. instructions issued from time to time. After successful completion of probation and regularisation, full pay scale with all allowances becomes applicable.
Step 1 — Online Registration
Visit pspcl.in → click "Recruitment" tab → select "Recruitment for the post of Junior Engineer/Electrical in PSPCL against CRA-316/26" → click NEW REGISTRATION (first time) or REGISTERED CANDIDATE (if already registered). Fill Registration Part-1: post applied, name, date of birth, father's name, mobile number, and email ID. Verify OTP sent to your registered email and mobile. Then fill all application details including photo and signature. Accept Terms & Conditions and click Submit. Do not register multiple times for the same post.
Step 2 — Pay Application Fee Online
After submitting Step 1, you will be directed to the fee payment link automatically. Alternatively, login → click "Pay Fee" → redirected to SBI Payment Gateway. Choose Internet Banking / Credit Card / Debit Card. Complete payment and save the transaction number and payment receipt. Check fee status after payment: if it shows "Paid", your application is complete. Fee must be deposited by 15 May 2026 — but PSPCL strongly advises paying at the same time as submitting the form.
Step 3 — Print Application Form
After fee payment is confirmed, login again → click PRINT APPLICATION FORM. Download and save it carefully — no confirmation email will be sent with the final form. You must download it yourself. Keep copies of the application form, payment receipt, and e-admit card for all future reference. Carry the printed admit card and a valid photo identity (Aadhaar + one more government-issued ID) to the exam hall on exam day.

| SC / BC — Scheduled Caste / Backward Class | Caste Certificate | As per Punjab Govt. concerned department instructions |
| XSM (Self) — Ex-Serviceman Self | Ex-Servicemen Certificate issued by Self | District Sainik Welfare Officer, Govt. of Punjab |

| FF — Freedom Fighter | Freedom Fighter Certificate | Deputy Commissioner of concerned district |
| SP — Sports Person | Sports Gradation Certificate — must be physically submitted to PSPCL HQ Patiala by 10 May 2026 | Director, Sports Department, Punjab (only this authority's certificate accepted) |

EWS candidates need the Income and Asset Certificate showing family income for Financial Year 2025-26, which must be valid for FY 2026-27. If you haven't obtained this certificate yet, apply to the relevant Punjab Govt. authority immediately to avoid complications at document checking. PSPCL explicitly advises EWS candidates to arrange this certificate without delay.
- Sports Person candidates must physically submit their Sports Gradation Certificate to the Recruitment Section, Head Office, PSPCL, Patiala before or by 10 May 2026 (last application date)
- If applying for multiple posts simultaneously, a separate Sports Gradation Certificate must be submitted for each post
- Only certificates issued by Director/Sports Department, Punjab are valid — certificates from any other authority are not accepted
- These certificates will be sent to the Director/Sports, Punjab office for verification and preparation of the final Sports Person merit list
