🎯 CBT Strategy for PSPCL JE Electrical 2026
  • Subject section (50 marks) is the decider: Half the paper is Electrical Engineering — mastering core topics like power systems, machines, circuits, and protection systems gives an enormous edge. This is where rank gaps are created.
  • Punjabi (20 marks) is easy scoring: Most candidates from Punjab find this comfortable. If you haven't studied Punjabi formally, practice basic grammar and comprehension — these 20 marks are relatively straightforward.
  • –0.25 negative marking is forgiving: Unlike SSC's –0.50, this is gentler. Attempt questions where you can eliminate even 1 option — your expected value is positive at 3+ reasonable options you can identify.
  • Tie-breaking by age: If two candidates score identically, the older candidate ranks higher. This makes high absolute scores critically important — don't leave marks on the table.
  • Answer key objection window: After the exam, PSPCL will display the question paper and answer key on pspcl.in. Candidates can raise objections — an expert committee reviews them before preparing the final merit list.
08
Selection Process
CBT (merit) → Document Checking → Appointment — No interview at any stage
1

Stage 1 — Online Computer-Based Test (CBT)

The primary and merit-determining stage. 100 MCQ, 100 marks, 2 hours, five sections as described above. Candidates who score below the minimum qualifying marks (45% General / 35% Reserved) are eliminated. The final merit list is prepared category-wise based on normalised CBT marks (if multi-shift) or raw marks (if single-shift). Sports person category merit is prepared separately by the Office of Director/Sports, Punjab based on Sports Gradation Policy.

2

Stage 2 — Document Checking

Based on the merit list, candidates are called for document checking at PSPCL. Original documents and one self-attested photocopy of each must be produced. Original documents are returned on the same day after verification. Intimation is sent via registered email and posted on pspcl.in. Each candidate gets two chances — if absent on both occasions, candidature is permanently cancelled. Candidates cannot send a representative — personal appearance is mandatory.

3

Stage 3 — Appointment & Joining

Candidates who clear document checking are placed on the selection panel. Appointment letters are issued by the appointing authority. Candidates receive 21 days to join from the letter date. A final notice of 21 days is given if the first joining date is missed. Failure to join within the total window results in automatic cancellation of the appointment letter. Selected candidates already in Government/Semi-Govt. service must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) at joining after resigning from their current post.

📌 Calling for Document Checking vs. Guarantee of Selection

Being called for document checking does NOT guarantee selection or appointment. The candidature remains provisional until all eligibility conditions are verified and the appointment letter is issued. Even after document checking, a candidate can be disqualified if any information is found false or forged at any stage — including after joining PSPCL.

Exception: Candidates already serving in PSPCL whose actual pay on existing post exceeds minimum admissible pay — their pay is protected during probation (but no increment or additional allowance).
⚠ Probation Period — What to Expect

The 3-year probation is significant. During this period, your take-home will be lower than the ₹35,400 basic pay since DA (typically 40–50%+ of basic in other posts) is NOT added during probation. Plan your finances accordingly. Probation may also be extended beyond 3 years as per Punjab Govt. instructions issued from time to time. After successful completion of probation and regularisation, full pay scale with all allowances becomes applicable.

Yes. A full-time regular 3 or 4-year Diploma in Electrical OR Electrical & Electronics Engineering from a State or Central Govt. recognised institute with a minimum of 60% marks is a qualifying route. Diploma holders need 60% — slightly higher than the 50% threshold for B.E./B.Tech candidates. All three routes (Diploma, B.E./B.Tech, AMIE) are equally valid — the post name is JE/Electrical and Diploma candidates are fully eligible.
Is Punjabi language knowledge mandatory for PSPCL JE 2026?+
Yes — it is a mandatory eligibility requirement. Every candidate (regardless of category or engineering qualification) must have passed Punjabi language at Matriculation (10th) standard or equivalent level by the last date of application (10 May 2026). Candidates without Punjabi at Matric level are ineligible and cannot be considered even if they clear the CBT. Proof must be produced at document checking.

What is the exam pattern for PSPCL JE Electrical 2026?+
The online CBT has 100 objective MCQ questions, 1 mark each, total 100 marks, 2-hour duration. Five sections: Subject/Electrical (50 questions), Punjabi Language (20), General Knowledge (10), Reasoning (10), General English (10). Negative marking: –0.25 per wrong answer. Minimum qualifying marks: General — 45%, Reserved — 35%. No interview at any stage. If multiple shifts, normalisation applies.

During this entire 3-year period, only the minimum admissible pay is paid — no Dearness Allowance, no Grade Pay, no annual increment. Only TA and medical reimbursement are given as per post entitlement. Exception: candidates already in PSPCL service who have a higher existing pay will have their pay protected during probation (but no increment).
I submitted multiple applications by mistake. Which one will be considered?+
If multiple applications are submitted for the same post, only the application with the highest/latest application number will be entertained. Important: fee paid for any earlier application number will NOT be adjusted or refunded against the latest application. PSPCL strongly advises applying only once to avoid complications. Consider carefully before clicking Submit — the application can be edited before final submission using "Save Draft".
How many chances are given at document checking for PSPCL JE 2026?+
Candidates called for document checking are given two chances only. The date of the first chance is communicated via registered email and on pspcl.in.
