One Trade per ApplicationCandidates can apply for only one trade and one unit per notification — applying for multiple trades or units leads to rejection
Previous ApprenticeshipCandidates who have already undergone apprenticeship training of 1 year or more under the Apprentices Act are NOT eligible
NationalityIndian Nationals only

OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)+3 years27 years

🚫 Critical Eligibility Points
  • Minimum 50% in 10th is mandatory — candidates with less than 50% aggregate are not eligible regardless of ITI marks
  • Only NCVT or SCVT certified ITI is accepted — private institution certificates without NCVT/SCVT affiliation are rejected
  • Candidates who have already completed apprenticeship training at any establishment are not eligible under the Apprentices Act
  • Enter exact percentage marks from your marksheet on NAPS — wrong entries discovered at document verification lead to disqualification from the merit list
  • Apply for the trade that exactly matches your ITI trade — applying for a different trade than your ITI specialisation is invalid

📌 Why Railway Apprenticeship is Valuable Despite No Job Guarantee
  • The NCVT apprenticeship completion certificate from Indian Railways (SECR) is one of the most respected credentials in the industrial sector — preferred by private sector employers in electrical, mechanical, and IT domains
  • Practical training at an actual railway workshop and division provides real hands-on experience that classroom ITI cannot replicate
  • Many railway apprenticeship completers gain a competitive edge in future RRB / RRC Group D and Technical recruitments due to their work exposure
  • Railway apprenticeship on a resume or CV signals discipline, reliability, and structured training — qualities that most employers actively seek
06
Selection Process — No Exam, No Interview
Pure merit — equal weightage to 10th marks and ITI marks — trade-wise and unit-wise merit list
📋 How Merit is Calculated — The Formula

There is no written examination and no interview for SECR Nagpur Apprentice Recruitment 2026-27. Selection is entirely based on a merit score calculated using marks from two documents only: your Class 10 (Matriculation) marksheet and your ITI marksheet. Both are given equal weightage (50% each). The merit score = (Average of 10th marks %) + (Average of ITI marks %) ÷ 2. Candidates with equal merit scores are ranked further using age (older candidate preferred) and other tiebreaker criteria.

ComponentWeightageDetails
Matriculation (Class 10th) Marks50%Percentage of marks obtained in Class 10 from any recognised Board — aggregate across all subjects
ITI Marks (Relevant Trade)50%Percentage of marks obtained in the ITI examination in the specific trade applied for — NCVT or SCVT
Merit ScoreTotal 100Average of 10th % and ITI % — higher score = higher rank in trade-wise merit list
For Boards awarding grades instead of marks, SECR applies the standard percentage calculation method prescribed by the respective board. Merit list is prepared trade-wise and unit-wise — being in the overall merit list does not guarantee selection for a specific unit.
1

Application & Merit Score Calculation

All applications submitted on the NAPS portal with 10th and ITI marks are collated. Merit scores are calculated as described above — trade-wise and unit-wise. SECR verifies the downloaded data from NAPS before preparing the merit list. Candidates whose 10th or ITI marks are incorrectly entered are disqualified at this stage itself.

2

Merit List Publication

A trade-wise and unit-wise merit list is prepared and published on secr.indianrailways.gov.in. Shortlisted candidates are called for document verification in the order of merit. The number of candidates called for DV is generally equal to the number of vacancies available in each trade and unit — there is no extra buffer shortlisting as in most written exam-based recruitments.

3

Document Verification

Shortlisted candidates report to the designated venue with all original documents. Officials verify: 10th marksheet and certificate (DOB proof + marks verification), ITI marksheet and certificate (NCVT/SCVT — trade and marks verification), Aadhaar card, caste certificate (if applicable), and photograph. Any discrepancy between NAPS-entered marks and original marksheets leads to immediate elimination and the next candidate in the merit list is called.

4

Training Contract & Commencement

Candidates cleared at document verification sign the apprenticeship contract as per the Apprentices Act 1961. Training commences at the respective unit — Nagpur Division or Motibagh Workshop. Apprentices are deployed in the relevant department matching their ITI trade. Monthly stipend of ₹7,700 or ₹8,050 is paid at the end of each month throughout the training period.

Read the complete notification carefully — verify your age eligibility (as on 19 May 2026), ITI trade match, and 10th percentage (minimum 50%) before proceeding. Check the trade-wise vacancy table to confirm the specific trade and unit you are applying for.

2

Register on NAPS Portal (apprenticeshipindia.gov.in)

Visit www.apprenticeshipindia.gov.in and click on "Candidate" login. If you are a new user, register by entering your name, Aadhaar number, date of birth, mobile number, and email ID. A registration ID and password will be created. Complete your profile by filling in all personal and educational details — including 10th marks and ITI marks accurately as per your marksheets.

3

Search for SECR Nagpur Establishment & Apply

After logging in, search for South East Central Railway (SECR) — Nagpur Division or Motibagh Workshop in the establishment search. Find the JTGLCCE-2026-27 apprentice notification for the specific trade you are eligible for. Click Apply. Enter your 10th and ITI marks exactly as on your official marksheets. Do not round off or estimate — only actual figures are accepted.

Upload all required documents in the specified format: passport-size photograph, 10th marksheet, ITI marksheet and certificate (NCVT/SCVT), Aadhaar card, and caste certificate (if SC/ST/OBC). The last date to submit the online application is 18 June 2026. The application window opened on 19 May 2026. It is strongly advised to apply at least 5–7 days before the closing date to avoid last-minute technical issues on the portal. No offline or postal applications are accepted under any circumstances.
Is there any application fee for SECR Nagpur Apprentice 2026?+
No — there is absolutely no application fee for any category of candidates (General, SC, ST, OBC, PwD, or Ex-Servicemen). The entire application process on the NAPS portal is completely free. Beware of any person or website asking for money in the name of railway apprentice recruitment — this is a fraud. Indian Railways does not charge any fee for apprentice applications.
What is the stipend for SECR Nagpur Railway Apprentice 2026?+
The monthly stipend is decided by the Central Apprenticeship Council based on the duration of the ITI trade: ₹8,050 per month for trades with a 2-year ITI course (Electrician, Fitter, Machinist, Turner, Painter etc.) and ₹7,700 per month for trades with a 1-year ITI course (COPA, Welder, Carpenter, Plumber etc.). No additional allowances such as DA, TA, or HRA are provided. The stipend is paid monthly at the end of each month during the entire training period.
Will there be any written exam or interview for SECR Nagpur Apprentice 2026?+
No — there is no written examination and no interview for this recruitment. Selection is entirely based on a merit list prepared from academic marks: 50% weightage to Class 10 (Matriculation) percentage and 50% weightage to ITI marks in the relevant trade. The higher your combined merit score, the better your chances of selection. Candidates should ensure their marks are entered correctly on the NAPS portal as there is no other selection stage.
What is the age limit for SECR Nagpur Apprentice Recruitment 2026?+
The age limit is 15 to 24 years as on 19 May 2026 (notification date). Age relaxation is provided as per Govt. of India norms: SC/ST candidates get +5 years (up to 29 years), OBC-NCL candidates get +3 years (up to 27 years), and PwD candidates get +10 years. The minimum age of 15 years has no relaxation. Ex-Servicemen get relaxation as per their service period plus applicable rules.
Is SECR Nagpur Apprenticeship a permanent railway job?+
No — it is not a permanent job. The SECR Nagpur Apprenticeship 2026-27 is a fixed-term training contract under the Apprentices Act 1961. It runs for 1 or 2 years depending on the trade. After successful completion, candidates receive an NCVT completion certificate. The Railways have no obligation to offer employment after training. However, the NCVT certificate is nationally recognised and significantly improves a candidate's profile for future government and private sector job applications.
What if I have scored less than 50% in Class 10?+
You are not eligible if your Class 10 aggregate is less than 50%. The minimum 50% in Matriculation (Class 10th) is a mandatory eligibility condition — not a merit factor. Candidates below 50% in 10th are ineligible regardless of their ITI marks. There is no relaxation in this condition for any category. Verify your exact aggregate percentage from your official marksheet before applying — include all subjects in the calculation.
Can I apply for both Nagpur Division and Motibagh Workshop?+
No — candidates should apply for only one unit and one trade per notification. Applying for both units (Nagpur Division and Motibagh Workshop) or for multiple trades in the same notification may lead to rejection of all applications. Read the official notification carefully for any specific guidance — if the notification allows applying to both units separately, it will be mentioned explicitly. When in doubt, apply for only one.
