Frequently Asked Questions
Complete Q&A — NHPC Apprentice Recruitment 2026
What is the last date to apply for NHPC Apprentice Recruitment 2026?+
The last date to submit the online application is 6 May 2026 at 5:00 PM. The application window opened on 15 April 2026 at 11:00 AM. Apply at www.nhpcindia.com — Career Section → Engagement of Apprentices. It is strongly advised to complete your NAPS/NATS registration well before this date to avoid last-minute technical issues.
Is there any application fee for NHPC Apprentice 2026?+
No — there is absolutely no application fee for any category of candidates (General, OBC, SC, ST, PwD, Ex-Servicemen). The entire application process is completely free of charge. Beware of any fraudulent websites or agents asking for money in the name of NHPC apprentice recruitment.
Will there be any written exam or interview for NHPC Apprentice 2026?+
No written examination and no interview will be conducted. Selection is entirely merit-based using a weighted formula: Graduate Apprentice — 20% (10th) + 20% (12th/Diploma) + 60% (Qualifying Degree); Diploma Apprentice — 30% (10th) + 70% (Diploma); ITI Apprentice — 30% (10th) + 70% (ITI). Candidates with higher weighted scores will be prioritised for selection.
What is the monthly stipend for NHPC Apprentice 2026?+
Monthly stipend varies by apprentice category: Graduate Apprentice — ₹15,000/month (includes ₹4,500 DBT from Govt. of India) | Diploma Apprentice — ₹13,500/month (includes ₹4,000 DBT) | ITI Apprentice — ₹12,000/month (includes ₹4,000 DBT). Additionally, if accommodation is not provided at the training location, an extra ₹2,500/month is paid. The Supervisor (HR) post (BBA qualification) gets ₹13,500/month.
Can candidates from outside the state apply for NHPC Apprentice 2026?+
Yes, all Indian citizens can apply. However, selection follows a strict priority order: (1) Project-Affected Families of the respective project, (2) Candidates from the local district where the project is situated, (3) Candidates from the state/UT of the project, and (4) Candidates from other states only if vacancies remain unfilled. So candidates from outside the state have a significantly lower chance unless local candidates are insufficient.
What is the minimum percentage required for NHPC Apprenticeship 2026?+
The official notification does not specify a minimum percentage for eligibility. However, since selection is based on a weighted merit formula using your academic marks, higher percentage = higher merit score = better chances of selection. Candidates must have passed the qualifying examination from a recognised institution with the specialisation clearly mentioned in the marksheet/certificate.
Does NHPC Apprenticeship lead to a permanent job in NHPC?+
No. NHPC apprenticeship is a training program governed by the Apprentices Act, 1961 and does not guarantee or create any right to regular employment or job extension with NHPC or any other organisation. Apprentices should not make any claim regarding employment or extension of training. The training is purely for skill development and to fulfil obligations under the Apprentices Act.
Do I need to register on NAPS/NATS before applying on nhpcindia.com?+
Yes — this is a mandatory first step. ITI trade applicants must register on the NAPS portal (apprenticeshipindia.gov.in) and Graduate/Diploma applicants must register on the NATS portal (nats.education.gov.in). After registration, you receive an enrollment/registration number which must be entered while applying on nhpcindia.com. Applications without a valid NAPS/NATS number will not be accepted.
Can I apply for more than one location or trade in NHPC Apprentice 2026?+
No. Candidates are clearly advised to apply for only one region/state/trade of their choice. Candidates who submit more than one application or apply for more than one region/state/trade will have all their applications summarily rejected. Choose your preferred location and trade carefully based on your qualification and location preference before applying.
What is the training duration and accommodation facility at NHPC?+
The training duration is 1 year and may be extended up to 2 years as per the Apprentices Act, 1961 and rules made thereunder. NHPC provides shared bachelor accommodation at the training location wherever available. If accommodation cannot be provided, an additional ₹2,500 per month is paid as a housing allowance. All postings are at remote hydropower project sites — candidates must be prepared for working in hilly/remote terrain conditions.
