NHPC Limited, a Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, has released its official apprenticeship notification for the year 2026. A total of 182 training slots are available for Graduate, Diploma, and ITI Apprentices across 9 power stations and project sites spanning Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Arunachal Pradesh. - No minimum percentage is specified — however, the selection is merit-based using a weighted formula, so higher marks improve your chances significantly
- Candidates awaiting results of the qualifying examination are not eligible — the qualifying degree/diploma/ITI certificate must be in hand by the closing date
- Previous apprenticeship of 1 year or more at any establishment disqualifies the candidate — this is per the Apprentices Act, 1961
- Medical fitness certificate as per Apprentices Act, 1961 and Schedule-II of Apprenticeship Rules, 1992 is mandatory at the time of joining
- Aadhaar-linked bank account is mandatory for receiving DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) component of the stipend from Government of India
- Specialisation field must be clearly mentioned in your marksheet/certificate — if not, a specialisation certificate/letter from the institution must be uploaded
- NHPC apprenticeship provides no guarantee of employment with NHPC or any other organization after training completion

The Government of India provides DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) of ₹4,500/month to Graduate Apprentices and ₹4,000/month to Diploma and ITI Apprentices under the NAPS/NATS scheme. This amount is already included in the above stipend figures. Candidates must have an active Aadhaar-seeded bank account and must be DBT-enabled as per Government of India norms before joining. Without this, the stipend payment may be delayed or withheld.
NHPC does not conduct any written examination or interview for apprentice selection. All eligible candidates will be ranked on the basis of a weighted merit score calculated using their 10th, 12th/Diploma, and qualifying degree marks. Selection priority is given first to project-affected families, then to candidates from the local district, then from the state/UT where the project is located, and finally to candidates from other states if slots remain vacant.

Step 1 — Register on NAPS or NATS Portal (Mandatory First Step)
Before applying on nhpcindia.com, you must first register yourself on the relevant Government apprenticeship portal and complete your profile by uploading all required documents.

After successful registration, you will receive a NAPS/NATS Registration/Enrollment Number. This number is mandatory for applying on NHPC's portal. Keep it handy.
Step 2 — Apply on NHPC Official Website
After getting your NAPS/NATS enrollment number, go to www.nhpcindia.com → Career Section → Engagement of Apprentices → Apply Online. Fill in all personal, educational, and trade details. Enter your NAPS/NATS enrollment number accurately. Choose only one location/state/trade based on your preference. Applications for multiple regions will be rejected outright.
Step 3 — Upload Required Documents
Upload clear, legible scanned copies of: NAPS/NATS Registration Form, all academic marksheets and certificates (10th, 12th/Diploma/ITI/Degree), Date of Birth proof (Matriculation certificate), caste certificate in Government of India format (SC/ST/OBC-NCL — latest), recent passport-size colour photograph, and signature. Upload CGPA/percentage conversion letter from your institution if marks are not in percentage format.
Step 4 — Submit Application (No Fee Required)
Review all details thoroughly before final submission. No application fee is charged for any category. After successful submission, download and save the application confirmation page with your application number. Monitor www.nhpcindia.com and your registered email regularly for the merit list, shortlist, and apprenticeship contract notifications.
Step 5 — Accept Contract Online (After Selection)
Selected candidates will be intimated via their registered email. The apprenticeship contract letter will be generated on apprenticeshipindia.org or nats.education.gov.in (whichever is applicable). Candidates must accept the offer and sign the contract digitally on the portal to confirm their joining. After contract signing, NHPC will communicate the joining date and location.
