How to Choose the Right Establishment & Trade

ConsiderationWhat to Check / Do
Your ITI Trade Match Only apply for the establishment offering your specific ITI-certified trade. Applying with a mismatched trade results in outright rejection at DV stage.
Your Residential District Verify that your district is listed as eligible for the establishment you're targeting. Candidates from Maharashtra's Nanded district, for example, are best suited for Nanded Division.
Competition Intensity Secunderabad, Vijayawada, and LLH Workshop are highly competitive due to larger populations and more candidates. Nanded Division and Tirupati Workshop tend to have fewer applicants. Consider this if your marks are borderline.
Your Merit Score Calculate your average: (10th % + ITI %) ÷ 2. A score above 80% is generally competitive for any establishment. Between 70–80%, choosing a less-competitive establishment or trade significantly improves chances.
Training Location Preference Consider proximity to home. Apprentices are not provided accommodation, so training at a distant establishment means arranging self-funded housing. Factor in this practical aspect before deciding.
Workshop vs Division Workshop training (LLH, MLAC) provides heavier industry exposure and is better for technical skill-building. Divisional training provides broader exposure to real railway operations including field postings, signal, and P-way maintenance environments.
03

07

Selection Process — Merit Based (No Written Exam)

No written examination or interview is conducted. Selection is based entirely on a merit list prepared using the simple average of marks obtained in Matriculation (10th) and ITI. This makes it crucial to have strong marks in both qualifications.

1

Merit List Preparation

A merit list is prepared trade-wise and establishment-wise using the simple average formula: (% marks in 10th + % marks in ITI) ÷ 2. For 10th, all subjects are considered. For ITI, the average marks from the consolidated statement across all semesters are used. This straightforward formula means higher scores in both exams directly translate to better ranking.

2

Tie-Breaking Criteria

If two or more candidates have identical average marks: Step 1 — The candidate with the older date of birth (senior in age) is ranked higher. Step 2 — If dates of birth are also identical, the candidate who passed Matriculation earlier (older pass year) is preferred. These rules apply uniformly across all categories.

3

Document Verification

Candidates shortlisted through the merit list are called for document verification. All original certificates must be produced — 10th Marksheet, ITI NTC/STC, Aadhaar, Caste Certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL, if applicable), PwBD certificate, EWS certificate (if applicable), Domicile/Residence proof from eligible district, Date of Birth proof, and 2 passport-size photographs.

4

Medical Fitness Examination

Shortlisted candidates undergo a medical fitness examination as per Railway medical standards applicable to apprentices. Candidates must be physically and medically fit to perform the duties associated with their trade. Those who fail the medical examination will not be engaged.

5

Engagement & Commencement of Training

After successful document verification and medical fitness, selected candidates receive an Offer of Engagement for apprenticeship training. Training commences at the assigned Division/Workshop under experienced Railway mentors. The training period is typically one year (two years for Draftsman trade). Stipend is paid monthly as per Apprentices Act, 1961 guidelines.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How many vacancies are there in RRC SCR Apprentice 2025-26?

+
RRC South Central Railway has announced 2,801 Act Apprentice slots under Notification No. SCR/P-HQ/RRC/111/Act.App/2025-26 dated 11 March 2026. These are distributed across multiple trades and establishments including 6 Divisions (Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntakal, Guntur, Nanded) and Workshops like Lallaguda Loco Workshop and Moula Ali Carriage Workshop.

Can candidates from outside SCR jurisdiction apply?

+
No. Applications are strictly accepted only from candidates who are permanent residents of districts under South Central Railway jurisdiction. Eligible states include Telangana (all districts), Andhra Pradesh (except Manyam, Srikakulam, Vijayanagaram), specified districts of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu (Vellore only), and Madhya Pradesh (Burhanpur & Khandwa only). Candidates outside these areas will be disqualified during document verification.

Is there a written exam or interview for SCR Apprentice selection?

+
No written exam or interview is conducted. Selection is entirely merit-based. A merit list is prepared using the simple average of percentage of marks in 10th (SSC) and ITI. Candidates are shortlisted based on this average, and only those shortlisted go through document verification and medical examination. Higher marks in both 10th and ITI directly improve your selection chances.

What is the stipend for RRC SCR Apprentice 2025-26?

+
Selected apprentices receive a monthly stipend of ₹7,700 (1st year) and ₹8,050 (2nd year) for trades requiring 2-year training (like Draftsman), as per the Apprentices Act, 1961 and Railway Board guidelines. No other allowances — HRA, DA, TA, or medical benefits — are provided during the training period. Accommodation is not provided by Railways.

Can I apply for multiple establishments in RRC SCR Apprentice 2025-26?

+
No. Each candidate is allowed to apply to only one Division or Workshop per application. Once you select your establishment preference and submit the application, it cannot be changed or modified. Choose your preferred establishment carefully, considering trade availability, geographical proximity, and your personal preference for the location of training.

Will completing this apprenticeship guarantee a permanent Railway job?

+
No, apprenticeship training does not guarantee permanent Railway employment. However, upon successful completion, you receive the Certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship (CCAA). CCAA holders are provided preference for up to 20% of vacancies in future direct recruitment to Level-1 (Group D) posts across Indian Railways. This is a significant advantage in Group D recruitments like RRC Level-1.

Are women candidates eligible? Is there a fee exemption?

+
Yes, women candidates from eligible districts are fully eligible to apply for RRC SCR Apprentice 2025-26. Additionally, all women candidates are completely exempted from the application fee, regardless of their category (UR/OBC/EWS). SC/ST/PwBD candidates (both male and female) are also fee-exempt.

What is the minimum age for RRC SCR Apprentice 2025-26?

+
The minimum age is 15 years as on the last date of application (11 April 2026) for all categories. The maximum age is 24 years for General/UR category, with relaxation for SC/ST (+5 years), OBC-NCL (+3 years), and PwBD (+10 years) as per government rules. Age proof as per Aadhaar or 10th certificate is acceptable.

Can Diploma or Engineering degree holders apply for SCR Apprentice?

+
No. Engineering graduates and diploma holders are specifically and explicitly excluded from this notification. They are governed by a separate apprenticeship scheme.
