1️⃣ Preliminary Examination (Prelims)

Purpose: Screening test (marks not counted in final merit)

Papers:

  • Paper I – General Studies

    • History, Polity, Geography, Economy, Environment, Current Affairs

  • Paper II – CSAT

    • Comprehension, reasoning, basic maths (qualifying only)

Key Points:

  • Objective type (MCQs)

  • Negative marking

  • CSAT needs 33% minimum

  • Only Paper I decides qualification for Mains


2️⃣ Main Examination (Mains)

Purpose: Merit ranking + in-depth knowledge assessment

Papers (Written):

  • Paper A – Indian Language (Qualifying)

  • Paper B – English (Qualifying)

  • Essay

  • General Studies I

  • General Studies II

  • General Studies III

  • General Studies IV (Ethics)

  • Optional Subject Paper I

  • Optional Subject Paper II

Key Points:

  • Descriptive (answer writing)

  • Only GS, Essay & Optional marks are counted

  • Language papers are qualifying only


3️⃣ Personality Test / Interview

Purpose: Test personality, leadership & decision-making
