07
Selection Process — No Written Exam
Pure merit → Document Scrutiny → Medical (Mines Rules 1955) — category-wise merit list
📋 How Merit is Calculated — No Written Test Conducted

NCL does not conduct any written examination or interview for apprentice selection. Selection is entirely based on a merit list prepared from marks obtained in the qualifying examination. For Graduate and Diploma: percentage obtained in Degree/Diploma is used. For ITI Trade: average of Class 10 + ITI marks is typically used. For Paramedical: qualifying course percentage. Candidates with equal merit are ranked further by age (older candidate preferred). Merit list is prepared category-wise and discipline-wise and published on www.nclcil.in around 20 June 2026.

1

Stage 1 — Application & Merit Score Calculation

All applications submitted on NATS/NAPS portals with qualifying exam marks are collated discipline-wise. NCL prepares a merit list based on percentage of marks in the qualifying examination. The merit list is discipline-wise and category-wise (UR, SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS, PwBD). Candidates whose marks are incorrectly entered on the portal are disqualified at document scrutiny even if they appear on the merit list. Tentative merit list publication: 20 June 2026.

2

Stage 2 — Document Scrutiny

Shortlisted candidates are called for document scrutiny at NCL offices in Singrauli/Sonbhadra. All original certificates — educational qualification, age proof, caste/disability/EWS certificate, NATS/NAPS enrollment proof, Aadhaar, and paramedical council registration (if applicable) — are verified. Any mismatch between NATS/NAPS-entered marks and original marksheets leads to immediate elimination. The next candidate in the merit list is offered the slot.

3

Stage 3 — Medical Examination (Mines Rules 1955)

Candidates cleared at document scrutiny must undergo a medical fitness examination as per Mines Rules 1955 at NCL-designated medical centres. This examination is more stringent than regular government job medical checks — mining environment requires candidates to be fit for underground/surface mine work. Vision, hearing, physical fitness, and general health are assessed. Candidates declared medically unfit lose the selection and the slot goes to the next candidate in merit.

4

Stage 4 — Engagement & Training Commencement

Candidates cleared at all stages sign the apprenticeship contract as per Apprentices Act 1961. Training commences at the respective NCL mine or establishment in Singrauli (MP) or Sonbhadra (UP). Monthly stipend is paid via DBT to the Aadhaar-linked bank account at the end of each month. Training duration is 1 year from the date of engagement.

How to Apply — NATS or NAPS Portal
Determine your portal first — Graduate/Diploma → NATS | Trade/ITI/Paramedical → NAPS — closes 15 June 2026
📌 Determine Your Portal First — This is Critical

Graduate & Diploma Apprentices must apply through NATS Portal — nats.education.gov.in
Trade (ITI) & Paramedical Apprentices must apply through NAPS Portal — apprenticeshipindia.gov.in
Applying on the wrong portal means your application will not be considered. There is no crossover — both portals are different government systems. Register on the correct portal first, then search for NCL (Northern Coalfields Limited) Singrauli establishment to apply.

1

Step 1 — Register on the Correct Portal

If Graduate/Diploma: Visit nats.education.gov.in → Register as a student → Fill complete academic details → Generate NATS Enrollment ID.
If ITI Trade/Paramedical: Visit apprenticeshipindia.gov.in → Register as Candidate → Complete profile with personal and academic details → Generate NAPS Registration Number.
Keep your Aadhaar, marksheets, and bank account details ready for portal registration.

2

Step 2 — Search for NCL Singrauli and Apply

After registration, login to your portal. Search for "Northern Coalfields Limited" or "NCL Singrauli" in the establishment search. Find the 2026-27 apprenticeship notification for your discipline/trade. Click Apply. Enter your qualification percentage exactly as on your marksheet — do not round up or estimate. Select your discipline carefully — only one application per discipline is allowed.

3

Step 3 — Upload Documents & Submit

Upload: recent passport-size photograph, scanned Aadhaar, qualifying exam marksheet (Degree/Diploma/ITI) showing marks, and caste/disability certificate if applicable. For Paramedical — also upload council registration certificate. Review all details before final submission. Download and save the application confirmation with your enrollment/application ID. No fee payment required at any stage.

4

Step 4 — Monitor nclcil.in for Merit List

After 15 June 2026, monitor www.nclcil.in for the tentative merit list (expected around 20 June 2026). If your name appears, prepare all original certificates for document scrutiny. NCL will also notify shortlisted candidates via the NATS/NAPS portal and registered email. Keep your portal profile active and email inbox checked daily after the application closes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Complete Q&A — NCL Apprentice Recruitment 2026-27
What is the total vacancy in NCL Apprentice Recruitment 2026-27?+
Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) has announced 1607 Apprentice Trainee slots for the year 2026-27 under the Apprentices Act 1961. These are distributed as: Graduate Apprentice — 241 posts, Diploma Apprentice — 305 posts, Trade Apprentice (ITI) — 906 posts, and Paramedical Apprentice — 155 posts. This is one of the largest Coal India subsidiary apprenticeship notifications in 2026 and covers a wide range of engineering, commerce, IT, and healthcare disciplines.
Which portal should I use to apply — NATS or NAPS?+
The portal depends on your qualification: Graduate Apprentice and Diploma Apprentice must apply through NATS Portal — nats.education.gov.in. Trade Apprentice (ITI) and Paramedical Apprentice must apply through NAPS Portal — apprenticeshipindia.gov.in. Applying on the wrong portal means your application will not be accepted by NCL. Both portals are separate government systems — register only on the correct one for your discipline.
Can candidates from institutes outside UP and MP apply for NCL Apprentice 2026?+
No — this is a strict state restriction. The qualifying Degree, Diploma, or ITI must be from a recognised institute or university that is functional and operational in either Uttar Pradesh or Madhya Pradesh only. Candidates who studied in institutes in other states (Delhi, Rajasthan, Bihar, Maharashtra etc.) are not eligible. This restriction is clearly stated in the official notification and is not relaxable for any category.
What is the monthly stipend for NCL Apprentice 2026?+
Monthly stipend varies by category: Graduate Apprentice — ₹12,300/month, Diploma Apprentice — ₹10,900/month, Trade/ITI Apprentice — ₹9,600 to ₹10,560/month (depending on whether the ITI trade was 1-year or 2-year), Paramedical (Graduate level) — ₹13,700/month, Paramedical (Diploma level) — ₹12,700/month. Stipend is paid directly into Aadhaar-linked bank accounts via DBT. No other allowances (DA/TA/HRA/accommodation) are provided.
Will there be a written exam for NCL Apprentice Recruitment 2026?+
No written examination is conducted for NCL Apprentice Recruitment 2026-27. Selection is based entirely on a merit list derived from marks obtained in the qualifying examination (Degree/Diploma/ITI). After merit list preparation, shortlisted candidates are called for Document Scrutiny and then a Medical Examination as per Mines Rules 1955. This makes it a great opportunity for candidates with good academic marks who may not perform well in competitive written exams.
What is the age limit for NCL Apprentice 2026?+
The age limit is 18 to 26 years as on 01 June 2026 — candidates must be born between 01.06.2000 and 01.06.2008 (both dates inclusive). Age relaxation is available: SC/ST — 5 years (max 31 years), OBC-NCL — 3 years (max 29 years), PwBD General — 10 years (max 36 years), PwBD OBC — 13 years (max 39 years), PwBD SC/ST — 15 years (max 41 years). All age calculations are as on 01.06.2026.
My qualification is older than 2022 — am I eligible for NCL Apprentice 2026?+
No — if your qualifying examination was passed before June 2022, you are not eligible. NCL has specified that the qualification must NOT have been passed before June 2022. This effectively means only candidates who completed their Degree/Diploma/ITI between June 2022 and June 2026 are eligible. This restriction ensures the program serves fresh pass-out candidates and does not benefit those who have been out of education for more than 4 years.
Does NCL apprenticeship lead to a permanent job in NCL?+
No — there is no employment guarantee. The NCL Apprenticeship 2026-27 is a fixed 1-year training engagement under the Apprentices Act 1961. After completion, candidates receive an NCVT-recognised apprenticeship completion certificate — which is highly valued in the coal mining and industrial sector. NCL has no obligation to absorb apprentices into regular employment. However, having an NCL apprenticeship certificate significantly improves a candidate's profile for future PSU and private sector job applications, especially in the mining and energy domain.
Can I apply for both Graduate Apprentice and Diploma Apprentice in NCL 2026?+
No. Candidates must apply for only one discipline in this recruitment. Multiple applications in the same or different disciplines will result in rejection of all applications. If you hold a Graduate degree, you should apply only as a Graduate Apprentice — applying as Diploma Apprentice with a Graduate degree would also violate the "no higher qualification" restriction. Choose your discipline carefully based on your actual qualifications.

⚠ Important Warnings — Apply Carefully
  • NCL does not charge any application fee — anyone asking for money in the name of NCL apprentice recruitment is a fraudster
  • One application per discipline only — multiple applications lead to rejection of all applications without notice
  • Enter exact percentage marks — even a small decimal error between NATS/NAPS entry and original marksheet leads to disqualification at document scrutiny
  • Ensure your qualifying institute is in UP or MP only — applications from candidates of institutes in other states are rejected outright
  • Qualification must be passed on or after June 2022 — older qualifications are ineligible
